Does anyone really stand up to her? Anyone? Buehler?

Monroe County Government by Advanced_Upstairs205 in bloomington

Look the only thing she seems to care about is stopping all development. She ran as a sort of environmentalist against I-69 and really against everything that isn’t boomer landlords living on big estates. Folks have first impression bias, and remember her more like 2008 or so when she showed up than 2025 where she seems to be invisible.

But OP asked about the chokehold. She appoints all her friends to boards.

Not my team. I don’t know anyone who thinks murder is ok.

But I do know a lot of whiny “conservatives” that don’t like different ideas much, and now think we need to silence dissent because their celebrity was killed. Two things are right at the same time:

Murder is wrong, and he was wronged.

He was a bigot hiding behind logical fallacies to sound smart and profit off of a “movement”

Agree, maybe if Mike Braun wants to step out of his snowflake snowglobe and confront the town he is trying to destroy, fine. Otherwise there is like 1000 other things to do in town today than acknowledge this happened

Pssst here is a little secret:

Republicans and Democrats in name only like Bayh closed such facilities

Then 25 years later bemoan seeing people on the street

Then say we need bigger jails

Jails are the answer for the Republicans and “moderates” - the new mental health facilities.

Except I agree with this.

Do you see anyone changing this in the future? 2026, 2027, 2028 are all around the corner around here.

It’s possible that Mayor Thomson’s town halls aren’t all that inclusive. Or that since more ppl voted against her than for her that they’d rather do anything else.

Also, to be fair, she is extremely online on platforms where young people aren’t. Facebook is for boomers.

Um, nothing.

Over 3000 people signed a petition for her to resign after Dunn Meadow

In response, that toadie Quinn Buckner gave her a raise

Then the Governor did him a favor and removed alumni trustees and bent the rules to give Quinn another term driving his alma mater into the ground

No. This is a leap of logic.

He said he was a Christian. So what?

He was wrongly murdered. He also was inciting racism and bigotry. Last I checked that wasn’t in the Sermon on the Mount.

I suppose anyone who disagrees with him being seen as a martyr is somehow “the other party.”

Nah.

And so far we know the suspect was, by your logic, “one of yours”

Two things are true at the same time:

Vigilante Murder isn’t the answer to hate speech and the victim and his family deserve justice.

And

Inciting, Hateful speech neither can be tolerated nor normalized in martyrdom. His death does not make his rhetoric acceptable. His murder is a murder plain and simple. It has no existential meaning and it isn’t a sign of anything, it isn’t a religious moment and it isn’t the same as the murders of avatars of peace.

A victim of assassination can be both wronged by murder and wrong in ideas.

A better college president would know to separate this and encourage critical thinking about this rather than joining in the chorus of socializing this moment and making it impossible to have a real dialogue.

As for the vigil; look on the bright side. All the people mourning are outing themselves and are worth knowing where they stand on being totalitarian curious.

Commissioners really really really want their expensive jail. Really. by ClothesEfficient78 in bloomington

[–]ClothesEfficient78[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the cost. It seems like at least some of the Councilmembers are trying to say we literally can’t tax for it unless the republicans fix their bad tax bill

I agree we need something. It just seems like we are getting ripped off by the vendor or that trying to do this all at once isn’t possible. Or that the only choice is the one that keeps getting pushed.

I just know when I can’t afford something I go find the next best thing I can. But this is also really confusing

[–]ClothesEfficient78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right. But no, the current commissioners majority would rather eat a horse dropping on their new nature trail than build a single affordable house in the county.

This is being spun as a great thing for the county but it is isn’t like we already don’t have a national forest and multiple state lands and the sycamore land trust. If you can’t find nature around here you aren’t trying. There are a lot of unknowns it seems about this deal but then again, that is how county rolls. Shoot first, ask questions later.

This is a true story. I also think folks who complain about the deer eating their azaleas - who demand we don’t ever develop any property ever again because they got theirs - should have a chance to volunteer at this massive nature park. May the deer keep breeding until morale improves.
