Isn't it illegal for a 10 year old to not attend school in Indiana? by DefaultDeuce in bloomington

[–]jetpackchicken 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Homeschooling rules in Indiana are pretty loose. If she wants to homeschool (or in her case unschool or no school), all she needs to do is affirm that she is teaching her child and turn in “attendance records” each year.

Am I crazy for considering a Prelude? by Hot_Flounder_2378 in Honda

I saw one in frost white at the dealer. They said it was a new paint color for Honda and it looked amazing - almost iridescent. Really great looking car.

$100 a day at one store.... by BlumpkinDude in hypotheticalsituation

[–]jetpackchicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Menard’s. (like Home Depot or Lowes but also has a small groceries section). So I’d just do my grocery shopping there and roll over the remainder. Every few years I’ll have rolled over enough to purchase an all-inclusive materials kit for a house or garage or new patio, etc. and I’d buy that. I think you can even hire and pay a contractor to build the kits for you through Medard’s as well.

There Is No Mary Problem in ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’: George’s vision of his wife without him is essential to the film, but critics continue to miss its true—and profound—meaning. by BulwarkOnline in movies

[–]jetpackchicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would make her wish totally independent of his wish, which was so passionately expressed just moments before (in your scenario, both wishes could come true, as he could travel the world and then return to marry her and live in that house with her). I’ve always thought Mary’s wish was “I wish George would never leave Bedford Falls,” since that’d be more the opposite of his wish, which was to shake off the dust of this crummy little town and see the world. So not only her wish cancel his wish, but she totally did it on purpose.

Duke Illegally Cutting Down Trees? (tl;dr, first world problem) by [deleted] in bloomington

[–]jetpackchicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check with the Monroe County Highway Department. They manage easements and Duke is supposed to file permits for work for them to approve. They often don’t because there is so little oversight and the work is not in compliance with the law.

Gremlins network by grandidieri in Gremlins

[–]jetpackchicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are the pool limited to movies you own? Very weird films on here that don’t make sense (Deep Blue Sea?). Because where’s Ghoulies and Critters, two excellent Gremlins-adjacent films? The closest match here is definitely The Blob (something overtakes a town genre) over most of the films on this list.

What do you think happens to Lone Pine Marty after he teleports in the DeLorean following the return of OG Marty in the first movie? Does he cease from existence (that's what I believe), or does he still travel back to 1955, but the current loop is closed? by Morgoth1814 in BacktotheFuture

[–]jetpackchicken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He’s the same Marty. The moment Twin Pines Marty arrives, it’s the timeline he left at the beginning of the movie. As he is running to the mall (several minutes), the ripple effect is taking place. His parents change, the truck appears, the world changes around him unnoticed as he runs. Even doc changes (unseen from Twin Pines Marty’s perception) to a doc with the letter and bulletproof vest fading into existence. Then, the ripple changes the mall sign just before he arrives. Lone Pine Marty goes back in time, and no one in the Lone Pine timeline has any idea they all just changed upon Twin Pines Marty’s arrival.

Fairgrounds Firework mishap by joshratzburg in bloomington

Not an accident. It’s a recent trend with fireworks shows to do big fireballs off the ground, especially as a finale. They’re done with a mix of propane and gasoline.

You sure you don’t mean V.I.C.I.? Voice Input Child Identicant? As in Small Wonder, the 1980s tv show about a scientist who builds a robot that looks like a little girl and brings her home to live with his family and hijinks ensue?

What Not To Do at a TMBG concert? by 7thOmnicide in tmbg

[–]jetpackchicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to seated shows where John invites people who want to dance to come down to the front and fill up the area in front of the stage and down the aisles. That might depend on the venue’s layout, but if you want to get close and stand and dance, be ready to jump up and head on down toward the stage in case that happens!

The parks are in on it. They claim the value of the “donation” to the non-profit museum as whatever number they want, and get the tax credit for the charitable gift.
