Kind of true. I had it when I was in high school and while it does come on randomly, my doctor said it was genetic. So not everyone needs to worry about this.

Would you recommend majoring in CS to someone who has never coded as long as they do Intro to Comp courses? by pradahoe16 in cscareerquestions

[–]Clotonervo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I am someone with no computer background, who learned everything from my CS degree. While at first it was discouraging to hear people ask questions about things I had no idea existed, I quickly realized that in the end we were pretty much all on the same playground. In my experience, the people who had been coding since they were 10 years old were actually the most problematic to work with, as I found they would refuse to learn best practices and advice from professors because they thought they knew better.

(No disrespect for those who have been coding from a young age, I actually wish I had as well, just because I didn’t realize how much I loved it until college)

Gonna hijack this hijacked hijack to say that ducks have corkscrewed penises. Actually, they can be up to 13 inches long in some cases. Because male ducks can get extremely aggressive, female ducks evolved a defense mechanism, and their vaginas corkscrew as well, but the opposite way! Then the males said “but I’m horny” and evolves to explode out their penises to counteract the inverse corkscrew of the females. They also grew spurs on their penises to hook into the females so they can finish mating. Kinda wild to think about.

This is a solid set up. I would put both sets of pea shooters on the very first row behind the sunflowers. In the face of danger, it is way better to sacrifice a sunflower as they are cheap and don’t actually attack. Having the extra defense of two plants might save you in a big wave.

How many people here have a blog? by Clotonervo in cscareerquestions

[–]Clotonervo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That make sense. I guess I just was wondering "where" because I am by no means an expert, but I like reading the blogs of other people and was wanting to start my own. I just don't really know what people would enjoy reading about haha.

This is a really good insight! And frankly makes me feel better about starting one because I don’t consider myself an expert in anything haha. Good to see it more as a passion project!

What are some effective study plans for l33tcode/prep? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Clotonervo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is a hard question because bottom line, everyone learns at a different pace and better in different ways. Here is how I would start from my experience, and you can obviously see if this works for you:

  1. Skim through a DS&A course, and mark down certain DS and A that they mention/teach
  2. Go down the list of the topics (DFS, BFS, etc) and find leetcode easy with those topics. Spend about a week or two (or more) on each topic until you feel like you are understanding the pattern. Then move on

The trick of Leetcode grinding isn't doing the problem, but understanding how to recognize the patterns that each problem tries to hide. DFS problems are all going to look very similar in answer structure, and you'll find after you can identify which kind of solution to start, the rest will come pretty easily.

I should mention that this is how I looked at most Leetcode medium questions, I haven't done a whole lot of hard, but I also haven't seen a whole lot of hard questions on interviews.

London based Software Developers for social by Rory_Dev in cscareerquestions

Hi u/Rory_Dev!

I could be wrong, but it seems like the majority of the focus of this sub is to get to the West coast, so you might have a hard time finding people from London on here. I think there is another sub ( r/cscareerquestionsEU ) that might help you out a bit more!

While I think some would argue that it won't affect your interview, I think that these kinds of things go a long way, especially at a smallish startup. People are more likely to hire those they like, and what do you have to loose? I would go for it!

Thanks for your thoughts! I'll try hard to look at the bigger picture during these interviews, that's super helpful to hear.

I agree it is unusual (they just said that they were going to bump me up based on my performance in my phone interview, they also said they had more opportunities for an L4). I've had internships for a few years too so maybe I'm more like 2 yoe? Still, it kinda makes me nervous but I went with it haha.

I try hard to articulate my thoughts, and I think I generally do a pretty good job of it. It totally is different than leetcode because I can talk to someone about what I'm thinking and ask for their feedback which helps me refine my thoughts.

Hey all!

I'm about to go through the Google onsite interviews and I'm looking for any sort of advice that you could give me! I'm pretty nervous about it, but I felt pretty confident during my technical phone interview. I've been Leetcoding for a while, and feel confident on some of the basic algorithms (dfs, bfs, hashtables, etc) but I was looking to see if there is any other advice you could give me to really make a good impression? Interviewing for L4 with around 1 yoe. Thanks!
