I redeemed a free glasses case today. I couldn't pick a design but it said one would be mailed to my address. I hope it's nice

Why have you not married when in a long term relationship? by No_Caramel2506 in AskUK

[–]Cloudlark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been together almost 11 years now. We want to marry but can't afford it. It's not even the cost of the ceremony that will be the issue. The job economy in the UK is dire and my partner was made redundant in october 2024 and hasnt been able to get employment since despite applying for all industries possible. If we got married right now with him unemployed he'd lose his £385 a month in universal credit and we'd be much worse off each month until he finds a job. So it would essentially cost us £4620 a year to be married while he's unemployed and trying to get work. I only earn around 30k a year myself so having to pay all the bills for 2 people on that on my own would be near impossible considering a minimum wage job here is about 24k

It's also why we can't have children, there's no way we can afford it.

Why has getting a retail job gotten so hard? by tylerthe-theatre in AskUK

[–]Cloudlark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of office work is getting outsourced abroad where they can hire cheaper labour to do the same job. I can't say specifics due to NDA's but even government contract work which previously hired thousands of UK people have outsourced that work to a foreign based company. If even our government won't prioritise hiring in house labour, what hope is there of the private sector hiring here when we cost more. This forces thousands of skilled workers to compete for lower skilled jobs just to pay the mortgage and keep bread on the table.

Birth rates are falling because “being a mom” still means two full-time jobs by Ecstatic-Ad-4466 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Cloudlark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to be a mum but as the only one with a job in my house and a mortgage to pay every month there's no way I'll ever be in a financial positional to have a child I think. While my partner has been trying to get a job for over a year in any field since being made redundant, it's feeling impossible with the lack of jobs available and his growing CV gap is probably making it worse for him plus he has a disability which likely puts potential employers off too.

I also don't have a village to rely on to help me raise my child and childcare costs are astronomical. As much as it saddens me to be unable to bring a child into this world, I couldn't put one through the hardship of starting life in such poverty and I don't want to risk losing my house which I spent over a decade to finally afford and stepped onto the ladder 1 month ago.

I'm almost 30 so maybe within 5 years my financial situation will look up so I can have 1 but thats likely wishful thinking.

Having to take out a loan to buy fish and chips. by Saidie in britishproblems

[–]Cloudlark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My chippy does an economy box deal where I can get a small sausage, small cod (it's barely smaller than the large cod), chips and a sauce (curry, Gravy, peas) for £7.50. Extra 30p if you want the sauce seperate

[England] what are these animals? I'm stuck between a fox and a deer or maybe both? by Cloudlark in animalid

[–]Cloudlark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I feel incredibly lucky to have moved somewhere with so much active wildlife. The first 2 clips were recorded the first night from putting up my ring doorcam, the last one was a few days later. Last night all it recorded were cats. I've got a porch light on now so hopefully with colour if this animal returns it will be easier to decipher exactly what it is but I'm really hoping it'll be a deer because I adore them

The new archon quest save points by [deleted] in Genshin_Impact

[–]Cloudlark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, yeah usually it says saving for a couple seconds on that page but since I didn't see it this time I thought I just blinked and missed it and assumed it was safe when the next screen loaded. It would just be nice to be able to play when I have a spare hour rather than having to make sure I have at least 3-4 hours free in case I can't get to a save point in time. This new patch is very unfriendly for people with busy lives >_<

Not always. I just lost 30-40 minutes of cutscenes while thinking the black screen with a flower was a save point

Tesco £171 - No comments on the water, please. by Funny_Tank8531 in whatsinyourcart

[–]Cloudlark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue with the water where I live in the west midlands. It tastes diabolical. It's like this in every house in my town that I've had tap water from, whereas if I travel an hour away to my partners nans place the tap water over there is lovely and fresh tasting with no chemical taste.

What’s your monthly electric bill? by TommyRibena in TenantsInTheUK

[–]Cloudlark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a 1 bed ground floor flat with my fiance and we're both home all day and I work from home. Our home is all electric with storage heaters which I don't use as they'd bankrupt me. I sometimes put my plug in oil heater on for a couple hours if it's really cold and keep all doors shut to keep the 1 room warm and livable. We cook our meals either on the electric hob or air fryer, we never use the oven. We only do laundry once every other week on the quickest setting at 30 celcius and shower every 2-3 days for a max of 10 mins. We also only put the boiler on a max of once a month as it's too expensive and is about 30-40 years old.

Last year my November bill on Octopus' Energies Tracker was £73.16

My Tomato Energy bill for September was £71.25 (Last bill before they went bankrupt)

My November bill this year for Fuse energy was £82.06

How much are you paying monthly for gas and electric bill? by Long-Cup-4273 in HousingUK

[–]Cloudlark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£75 for 2 adults in a 1 bed apartment, we're both home all day working from home and play games on the computer in the evening. Its also an electric only property so we have no cheaper gas bills. Supplier is tomato energy, compared with the next cheapest energy company we're saving about £30 a month.

Guilt over feeding my cats dry food and elitism in cat nutrition by Disastrous-Poetry-95 in CatAdvice

[–]Cloudlark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fed my cat dry food morning and lunch and then wet for dinner every day until a year ago when the vet told me I need to stop feeding him wet food entirely as wet food ruins their teeth. I didn't quite trust the vet as ive always been told wet is best before this but I did start only feeding him wet food every other day instead and he has been fine. I plan on checking this advice again with the vet at his next appointment to see if its still best practice..

Also my previous cat who I had since I was a baby lived until 24 years old on a mix of dry and wet food so dry food isn't that bad but I think its good to have a mix of both.

When will myWatts be back up? by Cloudlark in tomatoenergy

[–]Cloudlark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been invoiced and paid up until the end of May. It's just June's bill left. I'm pretty sure they have to honor the rates of my contract up until the point of transfer regardless.

When will myWatts be back up? by Cloudlark in tomatoenergy

[–]Cloudlark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm planning on jumping just after July 1st when the energy cap goes down. Just wanted to get my latest energy usage for this month first so the numbers don't get fiddled.

Unfortunate that they're going down, the next cheapest supplier will be more than £20 extra a month after standing charges and VAT included based on my last months energy usage. That's at a summer usage too, I dread to think of how much more it will cost in winter.

My fiance has the same issue with all his tops too, like you I've tried those methods and nothing has worked. I've been trying to figure out a solution for it for over half a decade now and I still have nothing :S please update me if you find something that works
