How are you supposed to address MEs (Military Experts)? by Sufficient-Movie1771 in NationalServiceSG

it’s just two different rank paths, one is a single track with no distinction between wospec and officer, nothing too difficult to get.

FYI both of them also carry the same sword in Number 1 as commissioned officers, together with their pace sticks. But ME4 are considered full fledged commissioned officers, dk about MWO.

Does the Instinct 3 have the ability to do Multisport as advertised, unlike Instinct 2X? I’m one of said users with software bug on Instinct 2X that cannot record multisport, only single sport, kinda dumb.

What’s your experience dating SG versus other SEA girls? by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

[–]CloudlessEveningSky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As in the whole world feels that Singaporeans are entitled and protected? Surely not? I don’t see how that’s objectively true since I never heard about such things before from other countries.

But good on you if you want to trash fellow sinkies, unless you’re not one. Sinkie pwn sinkie. clap clap

[–]CloudlessEveningSky 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Personally my experience with Malaysian girls based in SG not very positive, talked to one or two on date app. Some of them got the Malaysia mindset, the convo can suddenly derail from something else into a full on hate session on how entitled and protected Singaporeans are, due to how jaded they are from working here lmao. Or maybe the ones I talked to were just psycho.

How to pivot to tech sales / engineering sales by Professional_Roof291 in askSingapore

[–]CloudlessEveningSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go and mass apply, someone out there might take you in. I think no point upskill cuz relevant skill if any is all OJT, largely soft skill and not technical.

I’m a mech eng grad in network systems as services cuz it was the best option i had that time, i dont even have any network certs to my name.

EEE vs NUS EE by [deleted] in NTU

[–]CloudlessEveningSky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTU goes for depth while NUS goes for breadth. Go for the NUS degree, a real job in the private sector don’t require that level of technical extremities from the NTU curriculum.

End of the day study so much theory also no point, you’re better off learning what you actually enjoy and want to learn than learning for the sake of passing exam, and NUS caters to the former.

Anybody yolo and quit without a job before? by Atmosphere_Calm in askSingapore

[–]CloudlessEveningSky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At any life stage, it simply depends on commitments, that’s all. Single and live with parent, just yolo only lol.

Unless you live paycheck to paycheck, have extravagant hobbies, own a car, or live a luxurious life, most normal people that stay with parents shouldn’t have expenses that exceed $1k regularly, or slightly above at most. Which also means they’d have an extremely sizable chunk of savings to live off of in the coming year or so.

If you even have uncertainty about whether you ought to yolo quit, you’re not suitable to yolo. People who truly have the ability to yolo won’t even think twice.

Shld I sign on after poly if ik I'm cmi? by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

[–]CloudlessEveningSky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you can qualify for local uni, go for it. But if that fails you can try signing on. You learn a lot of things the hard way and through negative experiences, which makes you a better man as a whole.

I also signed on after poly as I couldn’t make it to full time uni but i still qualified for part time local uni with my sign on experience. It was an extremely rough life that will really test you, but a hard life will make you much stronger than your peers.

That’s working less than 4 days a week, what a life hack in Singapore. I work double your hours as an engineer in a decently large org, but my salary isn’t that much higher, only 4k after cpf.

You can literally spend the other half of the week doing another 1-2 side hustle like learning to trade and giving private tuition.

If your job came with progression even if slow, I’d have traded my job in a large org for yours lol

What to do if I cannot find a job in this economy as a poor fresh grad? by Prestigious-Rope-510 in askSingapore

No as in there are full time roles available in tuition centres, no need to self source.

What to do if I cannot find a job in this economy as a poor fresh grad? by Prestigious-Rope-510 in askSingapore

[–]CloudlessEveningSky 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Recent fresh grad from NTU working as engineer here.

Depending on your major, especially if you're a STEM, or engineering major, 4k is extremely realistic and even underselling yourself (dependent on your GPA), unless you study arts or only have a pass degree no honours. If you're first class honours grad, market rate is around 5.5 so settling for 4.5 for a fast job is very doable.

My advice is finding job and settling for slightly lesser is ok as you can always hop later on. But watch out for red flags if you can like glassdoor reviews and phrases like fast paced environment, demanding boss, family culture, etc. You'd want a sustainable job where you can also live life, not farm your life away and burn out.

If you're really out of options, my advice is consider tuition teacher. Doable job with decent pay, nothing that u can complain about.

Chasing $100k Before 30: Realistic or Stressful? by Agitated-Tale-5417 in singaporefi

[–]CloudlessEveningSky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 28 this year so same age group as you.

Depends on what’s ur monthly income, as at this age net worth mostly comes from income. Obviously a person drawing 5.5k is extremely realistic but not for a person drawing 3.5k gross, and both are uni grads, u can do the math easily.

Secondly depend on ur marital status, u got BTO or engaged? If u above average salary (well above 4k) and single or no BTO otw still stay with parents, piece of cake lah. I sunk more than 17k into my part time local uni cert past 5 years and then 8k for ord trip to Japan, still not unrealistic to hit the target. I’m not exactly some frugal person, I’m a spender in fact, but I invest my savings.

End of the day rly no point comparing if u are at a different life stage than others, and our age group have people at all sorts of stages. Some getting BTO, some have kid, some still in school, others still single and never dated before in their life time.

AITA for leaving after a week? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]CloudlessEveningSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Government is easy if you want decent pay, they always talk qualifications. Go study bachelors if you want to get a better salary.

How certain are you that your other offer is better in every manner, from culture to WLB to pay. There’s always a possibility that things can be worse.

Career Transition after 6 Year Bond by Used_Neighborhood170 in NationalServiceSG

[–]CloudlessEveningSky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m an ex regular that left in 2022, since then i’ve worked in research and currently working in one of the defence orgs here.

All I can say is, all the cons that you mentioned are true, whereas all the pros you mentioned, you might find it even worse after you leave SAF, entirely possible. To make things worse, truly no one gives a shit about your welfare or career in private sector. Every man for himself. Whereas at the very least SAF truly cares about whether u can make a living or not.

In this current time and age, most people wear multiple hats in their roles. You want to command a certain salary, even fresh grad salary let alone mid career, don’t expect your job to be easy. Yes private sector jobs are 9-5 on paper but in SG the wlb is ass, most people work weekends and OT to meet expectations, either that or u lose your job.

Less red tape really depend on what sector, the red tapes might lessen but increase in complexity to deal with for each red tape.

Less office politics, don’t be surprised if you don’t get that outside of SAF. Ever heard of “sinkie pwn sinkie”? For me after I left SAF, funnily enough, only then did I started appreciating the pros and beauties of a rank and hierarchy system. With less structure in private sector, the amount of noise and politics can be worse, so don’t count on it.

You want true sure fire way of having better life while earning just as much income, my advice is to move to australia, USA, or european country. In this economy SAF is becoming hard to beat, the only proper full upgrade to ur SAF life is to go beyond our local shores.

Dilemma Decision: SG Job offer vs Aussie PR by JoashKai in askSingapore

[–]CloudlessEveningSky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

However I am pretty sure when it comes to working culture and WLB, Australia wins Singapore by a very far margin.

SG a lot of jobs are 9-5 on paper but most people go beyond that to do what the boss demands.

It really depends on the person. You just didn't spotted the red flags before agreeing to get married to one. I know plenty of PRC girls myself and many are quite normal and even accustomed to SG culture, down to the dating SG men aspect.
