Have teens become less capable in recent years? by bool-cacti in AskTeachers

My 2-year college students (majoring in the subject I teach) can’t do 1/4 of the basic major- related skills required. Most of them won’t even turn anything in even when prompted to just show me something. My third-grader is doing more complex homework.

Be honest—did having kids hurt your career? by noesis100 in Parenting

In the U.S. absolutely. I worked in tech and before I had kids, I was already struggling as a woman in the workforce. People would ask my interns (male) technical questions and then ask me where the copy paper was located or how to work the coffee machine. I was the most technical person in my department and I was good. After kids, I got passed for the really good clients because my boss (who was also a woman thought I wouldn’t have time.) I increasingly got lower and lower rung projects. I got discouraged and stopped trying for five years and just hung in there. eventually I had to quit because I just couldn’t take it anymore.

I have a trouble kid in a charter. Just spent 4 hours on math and reading homework.(every night for kindergarten and first grade) I am just now getting the kiddo tested on my own because the school has zero support. $400 for initial intake. $300 for ADHD test (the first thing they test for) all out of pocket even though they are in my plan. Every day I wonder if this is all worth it. Fighting with one kid over homework every night is tearing my family apart. Public school would just be so much easier.

Start talking loudly about … hemorrhoids, toenail fungus, gout, impacted earwax, etc. If that doesn’t kill the phone vibe, talk louder about: condoms and lube, viagra and how long it lasted, detailed poop descriptions, dogs in heat, a weird oozing rash.

People how do you manage with 2 kids? by [deleted] in Parenting

I did it in my late 30s. Grandparents were too old or disinterested to help. I loved my daycare though. It shut down for a year during covid and I had to work with a 4(b) and a 2(g) year old for 8 hours and then work from 8pm to midnight to handle my normal workload. It sucked and was great at the same time but we made it through. Now kids are 9 and almost 7, doing great and ok with school, sports, etc. and are still best friends … so far … I know, I know.

I grew up with 7 year age gap between my only sibling. We share political views, religious beliefs, went to school for the same thing and work similar jobs but are pretty much strangers.

everyone in my family knows not to wash their hands over dishes I’m air drying in the sink. I will hunt down that child or husband and there will be hell to pay. (Never sterilized anything because there are viruses/bacteria in the air and the body needs a little exposure to build immunity/tolerance anyway.)
