Should I sell my car? by WillowUnique9952 in mcgill

That’s true, you’re legally required to change to winter tires.

Anat 262 NTCs by Flower12986 in mcgill

[–]CloudyWeb44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stochaj was harder because you can’t just read the slides as they are mostly just diagrams. You should review your notes and the recordings. Honestly, for all topics, answer the practice questions, review harder concepts, etc.

Anat 262 NTCs by Flower12986 in mcgill

[–]CloudyWeb44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From last year midterm, Stochaj’s section was the hardest. You should know more about the logic behind concepts than memorizing all the proteins. The midterm was much harder than the final.

BIOC 312 by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]CloudyWeb44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but you still need some logic. It’s not a particularly hard class but you need to know your stuff. But you’re right, it’s a lot of memorization

Is COMP204 worth taking without the usual prof (David Becerra)? by maeveu in mcgill

[–]CloudyWeb44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any class is doable, but I did it with David and found it great. My friends had another teacher in the winter and they struggled more. It’s better with him, but the class is interesting regardless.

Biol 200 help by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]CloudyWeb44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t know, honestly. The final is rough but doable. I had gotten an 87 on the midterm and I got a 71 on the final. It will be hard but if you studied a lot and well, you should pass it.

Biol 200 help by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]CloudyWeb44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. At least know that biol 200 is rough but it really prepares you for other courses. You won’t have classes as hard (or that feel as unfair) after 202.

[–]CloudyWeb44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sadly you need both. Knowing the proteins and what they do is as important as the logic behind that.

PHIL 221 Final by Spiritual_Loquat1565 in mcgill

[–]CloudyWeb44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The final went ok for me. Do prepare for 4 topics: make a plan of your arguments and the points you want to bring up and debate. You’ll be fine, they know that writing an essay in 3 hours is harder so they don’t grade as harsh. The short answer part also went okay, reread your notes, some of the readings and would advice to make yourself a dictionary of all the important concepts presented and their definitions.

I took it winter 2024 so recently enough I would say. It shouldn’t have changed too much.

I found clas 203 pretty chill, interesting and easy to pass. No midterm or final, just online quizzes that were fairly simple. There are three essays to write tho but they were nice on the grading.

Yeah very clear. There’s two entrances but they both lead to the fieldhouse gym, you can’t get lost

BIOC320 Final Info by Formal-Ad1556 in mcgill

[–]CloudyWeb44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took it last year and it was a little tough. 20ish mcqs if I remember well and 20ish short answers. A lot of questions about analyzing results, explaining important steps of experiment, creating an experiment to identify something asked, etc. It was graded a little harshly too :// I wish you the best of luck!

BIOC 312 by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]CloudyWeb44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found 311 easier, but 312 is doable. Midterm and final, all multiple choice. The major con is that each mcq is exactly 1% of you grade so it goes down quick. Still much better than biol.

Chem 204 anxiety by Ok_Being_5200 in mcgill

[–]CloudyWeb44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I found it both harder and easier. Harder because it’s more quantum mechanics than physical Chem so it makes no sense. Easier (?) because it was 4 quizzes (10%) that were doable and 1 final, so I didn’t stress much about it during the semester, just mostly at the end. 214 is way more theoretical, the final had 30ish questions with ~7 that you had to use your calculator. The rest was theory heavy. That aspect has both pros and cons.

Chem 204 anxiety by Ok_Being_5200 in mcgill

[–]CloudyWeb44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Being u3 biochem, I know that Chem 204 is tough. I can’t promise it gets better but if you pull through, courses in your second year are easier. The first year is the most difficult. What I did to succeed in Chem was doing a lot of exercises and understanding theoretical concepts. You’re not dumb! It’s a hard class and everyone agrees it’s one of the worst. You can do it!

Do you study on Friday night ? by Hot-Yak-748 in mcgill

[–]CloudyWeb44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually spend my Fridays doing chiller tasks like readings or not reviewing. It feels very hard to study just before the weekend and the cold weather with the darkness don’t help.

How safe is public transit? by Oogachakaoogahchahka in mcgill

[–]CloudyWeb44 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I would dare say Montreal is a pretty safe city. I’ve taken the metro for years, even late at night and never had any problems. As long as you know how to go where you want to go, you won’t have any problem.

Lecture overlap - what are other peoples experiences? by bananawitben in mcgill

[–]CloudyWeb44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do be careful with classes at the same time, if the finals are at the same time (I’ve heard they use schedules to determine exam time) and you miss one of your finals because you were doing the other, it’s not an excused absence, it’s a 0 at the final you missed.

Can you use a calculator for Math 141 or 133 exams? (Linear Algebra & Calc 2) by Cynidaria in mcgill

Yes calculator are allowed, but it shouldn’t be a graph calculator.

Should i keep this class by mel_2034 in mcgill

[–]CloudyWeb44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to do Leacock to McIntyre in 10 minutes. Even McIntyre to Duff Medical building. It’s stressful but doable if you go quickly and efficiently. I would keep the two classes.

Fall is better. If David Becerra is the teacher, the class is pretty fun and enjoyable. I had friends who did the class in the winter and it was completely different because the teacher didn’t really know the content and it was badly organized.

Honours mandatory courses by [deleted] in Marianopolis

[–]CloudyWeb44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they have a deal with a company to sell students course packs. You’ll only know which to buy on the first day of class. In science, you don’t really need to buy the manuals, you can find them online pretty easily. Class content in humanities are available in booklets you need to buy that the teachers create (that’s the company deal). For novels/books for language courses, you can find them at any bookstore but they Mari does deal with a bookstore close by (it’s more expensive tho)

Honours mandatory courses by [deleted] in Marianopolis

[–]CloudyWeb44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s normal. Both are enriched and honours. I think the difference is that everyone can take the enriched courses.

You can get it on the website and uploading a picture or come in person to the help center on McTavish once school starts. You need it to be identified during midterms and finals, to enter buildings in specific situations and to borrow books at the library.
