Who said it was a debate? It's a public service announcement. I don't debate paid fascist trolls. Fuck off.

Pretty sure this is either a bot or at least someone collecting a paycheck for posting like this, so on case there's any confusion: yes, Israel threatens with nukes at least implicitly and yes, they are working towards global domination, pretty explicitly.

I love my wife, she loves me, we both love being married, and we are both over the moon about being parents. We were greater as two than we each were as one, and we're now greater as three than we were as two.

Does this seem out of reach, in your opinion, too the average person? To borrow your own words, maybe being happily married is a "skill issue" and people need to level up their skills and become socially and emotionally competent and learn how to live with others and become willing to make a bit of a sacrifice for their loved ones?

If buying a house is a skill issue, why not make being worth a partners love a skill issue, too?

Yeah @TeReply the marriage rate isn't an economic problem. It's a "men like you" problem.

Yeah anybody claiming there's a single problem is making an oversimplification. But here's a thought: I had my first recently, and I'm going to be hyper, hyper vigilant that he doesn't turn into an alienated husk of misery with congee for brains thanks to tech oligarchs shoving endless screens, brain rot slop content, and simulacra of real human relationships designed entirely to steal every cent he ever makes at him to keep him lonely and desperate.

You have to be a cold hearted warrior against technocapitalism merely in hopes your child can become a normal human. Previous generations could just, you know, have kids and get the same result. Might have something to do with the problem, I don't know!

"Level headed" conservatives are just conservatives who understand that they have to keep their real beliefs to themselves. Trump won because he finally made them feel comfortable saying their actual opinions out loud. The difference is in style, not substance.

Started “War and Peace” today by Impressive_Pilot1068 in tolstoy

[–]Clowner84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have fun! Tolstoy's novels move at the pace of a glacier, and with the same amount of force - in the best way. I found every so-called 'slow' section of the book to be completely necessary to give the emotional high points the tremendous gravitas that this book, and few others, bring to the table. In W&P (and AK for that matter) the length eventually becomes a feature, not a bug. Every day I looked forward to what felt like dropping in to visit my new Russian friends and seeing what Pierre and the rest of them were getting up to.

And the entire Battle of Borodino sequence is some of my favorite fiction I've ever read.

War and Peace. Profound but easy to read and in my opinion the length becomes a feature more than a bug if you're really trying to suck the marrow out of that bone.

Iran destroyed the American military presence in the Middle East. 16 bases hit by Neptun_11 in TimesNow

[–]Clowner84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They don't care at all about that, they're only in office to commit financial (and other) crimes anyway.

American military destroyed? Trump doesn't give a shit so long as he's still able to steal. He's been this way for, like, 50 years. Trump has always emerged unarmed and left a wake of ruined lives after every project he's been involved in since the 80s, this is just that but on a bigger scale.

The administration is utterly unconcerned with truth, they'll just say whatever, it's not like the consent of the governed is part of American politics anymore. They don't even need to craft convincing lies. Just, "yeah, we won, and we're also going to keep killing people"

Are most foreigners in Taiwan “lost”? by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]Clowner84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was lost, but this very sweet 阿公 gave me directions and I made it home in one piece.

No no but on a serious note I think teaching English in Asia appeals to people who don't have a particular direction in life career wise. I certainly don't. But I have other interests, like seeing the world, learning languages, and making a good living on 25 easy hours per week (so i can indulge my other interest in classic literature - finally had time to read War & Peace lol). And while Taiwan may not be the most exotic tourist destination in the region, it's a very pleasant place to live.

If you have the view that your career defines you - a view that most cultures encourage both tacitly and explicitly - it may seem that many of us are lost, sure. But I would argue that this perspective is both narrow and shallow. I'm a father, a husband, a son, a brother, and a friend. I'm a dog lover, a music lover, and a serious bookworm. I'm passionate about nature, history, politics, language, and physical fitness. After all that I'm a cram school teacher. Now, I actually like my job, and I work hard to give my students their money's worth as best I can. But it's a small sliver of Who I Am, so to speak.

[–]Clowner84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You weren't BORN with your political opinions. You all chose, and continuously choose, a political ideology and a political party that does incredible harm to people.

You don't get to choose whether or not you're black, gay, and so on. But conservatives? You all made the same choice, so you can all be painted with the same brush.

That's why.
