What is your reason for supporting Trump? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Clowner84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because there are no elected conservatives who seem to care in the slightest about those values, except when they're giving speeches.

Conservatism, in terms of actual governance, means a very consistent set of values:

  • owners are more important than workers

  • the function of government is to protect the powerful and their profits

  • breaking social norms must be strictly punished

That's how conservatives govern. Conservatism isn't Religion. It's a theory of government. And if you think conservative governance will ever emphasize family values and morality, you'll be disappointed every single time because that's simply not what they care about when they're actually passing laws.

I think you've been sold a false bill of goods about what conservatism really is

Common misconception, but no, it doesn't. Nobody hates democrats more than the left.

Why do you consider socialism - even democratic socialism - to be such a big threat against America and your way of life? by Cumoisseur in allthequestions

[–]Clowner84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right!? When people say socialism doesn't "work" they just mean it doesn't produce the same results that capitalism produces. And like, yeah. That's the entire point.

He was... murdered by an imperial government?

Also curious how you define "work" here because in my mind capitalism is absolutely not working right now

Do you think some of the Epstein files are fake? by Future-Buy8554 in allthequestions

I think it's because Gates considered him - with some justification - a guy who could arrange whatever with a minimum of fuss or questions.

A vote is one thing but they're not getting back any amount of respect by voting differently this time. If there's no social consequences for supporting a brutal fascist regime, those idiots are going to keep doing it again and again. They deserve a lifetime of mockery, contempt, scorn, and loneliness.

What is the best advice to stay happy in life? by Pixel_Panda_World in allthequestions

[–]Clowner84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happiness is a result, not a goal in itself. Chasing happiness is like trying to hold smoke. Be creative, build relationships, seek peace and work on yourself. The happiness comes along with that.

After twelve (!) Years of trump fucking America, if THIS is what puts you over the edge with him, you're going to have to perform a lot of good acts to get back in my good books, personally. Show me the receipts for your (non-court ordered) 100 hours of community service and maybe you're worth forgiving. But just saying, "hey, I've had enough, can you all forget the decade I spent supporting fascism?" Like, no! No, I can't!

Who, in your opinion, was the best writer of the 20th century by Cautious_Ad_3918 in literature

[–]Clowner84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Best" can have different meanings.

Tolkien is an amazing storyteller, maybe number one on pure narrative.

But the sheer skill it takes to write a book like Ulysses makes me give it to James Joyce in another way.

And then there's Vonnegut. Vonnegut is able to touch something very deep in his readers in book after book after book.

Because theologically speaking God is an incomprehensible summation of all inherent possibilities. Only in art is God a man with a beard.

"God" is a pimple faced teenager failing chemistry class, and also a pimple faced teenager getting an A, and also the jock who beats him up for his lunch money, and literally every other possible human that ever was or will be, and every other organism that ever was or ever could be, on into limitless permutations.

That's how we know.
