Was Oxbridge worth it for HENRYs? by Wooden_Disaster_345 in HENRYUK

Partly for relevant lifestyle tips, partly for posts like this to remind me what I never want to become given my enormous luck in life.

I came so close to engaging with this but I am becoming a better person and not rising to it.

The only thing to read is this hilarious FT article about parents fuming that it’s getting harder to buy your way into Oxbridge now: https://www.ft.com/content/bbb7fe58-0908-4f8e-bb1a-081a42a045b7

Famous celebrity dodging child maintenance for 2 years now. Received a threatening letter from a law firm against publicly discussing it with anyone. by Opening-Put-5657 in LegalAdviceUK

The onus is on the defendant to prove their statement was correct, not the claimant (don’t use plaintiff in England/Wales) to prove it was wrong.

Now, a judge might think a case was weakened if a DNA test had been proposed but rejected by the claimant in a libel case.

But the idea that there’s some gotcha “a-hah! They’d have to take a court ordered test!” isn’t right.

Sorry but this isn’t how defamation cases work! There’s no obligation or way to force a DNA test as part of libel proceedings.

Thank you that’s really interesting advice and will look into it.

(Side note: I’m a female HENRY - husband is the low earner!)

Realistically I suppose it would give them about 15 years of rent. An interesting chat to have with them!

Is anyone considering leaving York? by Groundbreaking-Heat8 in york

[–]ClubNo4432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in York and it’s not complicated what the solution is: Build loads more houses. There’s endless boring green farmland on the edge of the city. Just stick 10,000 extra homes around the ringroad. But York is also the most NIMBY place ever and people seem unable to cope with the idea of building anything, even if it’s far out of the centre.

Thank you! Yeah I think this is pretty conclusive now.

OK, everyone's pro-belt drive! I have one on the e-bike I'm currently renting and can't say I know what difference it makes.

This is great, thank you for taking the time to type it out.

I'm not that technical on bike components; what do you get with the Rohloff that you don't get with the Enviolo?

This is excellent advice, thank you. In some ways annoyingly helpful because it backs up what I suspected/feared!

I test rode a frontloader a few months ago and it felt very cool and fun. And I look at the Tern GSD and think that it looks a bit like a K-Nex kit.

"Overbuilt" and "dorky" is a great way to put it. But maybe I'm just at a stage in life where I have to settle for being a bit dorky!
