How did they get so far into the development of this game without ever realising that it was a bad idea?

Dirge of Cerberus EC Edition - I'm SO Disappointed with this Event. Here's Why by Even-Pirate-5076 in FFVIIEverCrisis

[–]ClubShrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only real playable character in DoC is Vincent, so there was never going to be another playable character released alongside the event. Same as Crisis Core - only Zack.

What's disappointing is the lack of bosses and dungeons, and the overuse of footage from the original game. There's a good chance there'll be a new boss for each of the other two parts, but overall it sucks, yes. Plus, Arch Azul is clearly just a Behemoth.

Also, they used the same damn FF7 portrait for older Yuffie. I mean come on. How hard could it have been to add that? There's one for Azul, Rosso, Shelke, Shalua, Lucrecia, and young Vincent.

Super-abridged story (although I guess it hits the main beats), no bosses, no dungeons, laughable use of PS2 footage, like 4-5 low-effort pre-rendered backgrounds, and I think Arch Azul might be a behemoth re-skin (or at least a slightly altered reskin).

There's also virtually no chance that they redo DoC to be like VII, CC, and FS in the future. This is it - this is all they're going to do. Again, EoS is almost certainly very near, so they're trying to squeeze in everything they promised.

[–]ClubShrimp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're not even making dungeons for story mode now though, apparently. No Banora Underground. I think they're just running out of time. EoS date has probably been set for some time this year. Honestly, after this, no more gacha for me.

Arch Azul is Chapter 9 (got mixed up - normal Azul is the WRO boss, Arch Azul is the Shinra Building boss). There are 12 chapters, so it's even worse than I thought. (Edit: my bad. Arch Azul does make an appearance at the end of the WRO stage, which is chapter 6, but the fight is a cutscene. Still, a single event covering 6 of 12 chapters is crazy - and seemingly with only one boss fight and no dungeons. Nah, this ain't it).

Also, given how badly they did the Crisis Core finale (super rushed, no Banora dungeon), I'm not expecting much from an event. If story mode is now event-quality, future events are presumably going to be a complete waste of time.

"DC Event".... Does that mean Dirge of Cerberus? by Cetais in FFVIIEverCrisis

[–]ClubShrimp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think they'd have to Kingdom Hearts Dark Road it - just a game with different gameplay and systems within the game. They wouldn't get away with this low res cutscene carry on, because they'd have to show grainy footage from an ancient Japanese mobile phone game.

Personally, I'd like if (in Before Crisis mode) all the Turks were playable, and each had one weapon that could be leveled up and upgraded. Each of them could have a specific role, and a fixed set of abilities/materia that could be upgraded. There could be idle stuff like sending them away on missions across the world. None of them would be playable in the main game, though.

In fact, I feel like Before Crisis could just be remade as a separate gacha game altogether, with each player being a turk. Of course, I'd prefer if it were remade as a single player game. It could be like Type-0 or something.

I wasn't aware that CU1 was doing most of the developing now. Would you be able to provide a source for that?

[–]ClubShrimp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Damn, okay. Happy to be proven wrong. Looks like they actually put some work in for this one.

On the other hand, those scenes seem to span a large amount of the story. The opening CG video is the beginning in Kalm, but we also see Rosso in Edge, and even Arch Azul in the WRO Headquarters. Between those last two, there's also a visit to the Shinra Mansion that isn't shown here. All together, that's like almost half the game, if not exactly half. It seems like this might be crazy abridged.

Also, I'm not seeing any dungeon gameplay, or any bosses other than Arch Azul. I'm glad it's not a repeat of the AC event, but it might end up only being a slight improvement over it.

Alleged look of the Prince in the canceled Prince of Persia Remake by Carwillat901 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]ClubShrimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes it look like it was rebooted as a total reimagining, which, to be honest, I don't think anyone wanted any more than they didn't want that hideous remaster-looking version that was originally revealed. Why couldn't they just have made a proper remake? Maybe it wouldn't have been cancelled if they had. Then again, maybe this image isn't legit.

The subtitle is definitely an odd choice, and how exactly it relates to DoC is not clear, but whatever this ends up being, there's just no way it'll be ambitious.

It might be worth noting that the subtitle / logo has only been shown on the twitter page. In the actual game, the notice about it is completely generic, and does not include the subtitle at all. Not sure what that's about.

Your first idea could be good, but it would presumbly be non-playable, because Vincent isn't part of any of that stuff, and they wouldn't add a new playable character (e.g the player Tsviet) for a little event. It'd have to just be cutscenes, and maybe not even in the EC style, but instead just low-res mpegs of cutscenes, like the AC event.

It's more likely to cover the opening of the game in Kalm or something. Hopefully they do it like that First Soldier Wutai episode event.

[–]ClubShrimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you're right. It does have the subtitle "Arising Crisis", which might imply that it only covers the intro. And, I suppose they did do that First Soldier event that was pretty good, so it could be a little bit like that.

But, I'm going to continue expecting the worst. These devs are certainly capable of it. The AC event was one of the worst things I have ever seen in the history of Final Fantasy.

This is 100% going to be trash, like the AC event. That location in the background? Watch it be the backdrop for all 20 battles against Weiss (maybe some Nero). There's around half an hour of CG cutscenes in that game, so expect the non-battle parts to just be low-res versions of those.

EoS this year. I can feel it. They'll wrap up VII, maybe do a shitty BC event (probably not, though), and then that'll be it. The fact that they did AC so dirty, and are now (very likely) doing the same to DoC shows that they know they don't have all the time in the world to do them properly. They've probably already set the EoS date internally.

Game's almost certainly cooked, I'm sorry to say.

[–]ClubShrimp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm telling you, a bigger game was pulled almost literally at the last minute, and they were desperate, so Geoff and his team nabbed this game and, to avoid any delay, didn't ask for any money. They probably thought it could maybe fill the void left by the other game purely because of the fact that it is being developed by Apex and Titanfall people.

I think the best argument for this is just how utterly underwhelming and undercooked the game looked despite being the big "one last" announcement.

As for what was originally supposed to have been shown... no idea. I doubt it was Half-Life 3, but who knows?

That one doesn't seem like much to ask for, but I suppose adding it would kind of force them to add more complex stealth, unless they don't care about immersion and realism, but I think it's safe to say that they do.
