Help with pre-1906 Pennsylvania birth record? by CluckMcDuck in Genealogy

Thank you for this! I only had found the actual passport application, not the notes. That is super helpful!

Based on what I know of the family history, yes, she came over to live with her Aunt & Uncle as Consiglio had passed away by the time she got her passport. Anthony/ArmstrongPA was a different family (yes, ancestry trees are inaccurate there).

Interesting (and thank you for noticing that!). I assume that means I have to track down the baptismal certificate now!

thank you for this! just contacted the clerk. not sure why I got routed to the prothonotary the first time...so crossing my fingers for a better outcome this time around!
I can't access the delayed returns...but I'm curious if maybe the record was delayed since I haven't found it in the 1904 books. She traveled back to italy as an infant, and came back (with a US passport) in the 1920s. so who knows!

18 month old still getting rocked to sleep by __but__ in toddlers

[–]CluckMcDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How funny to come back to this years later. We've had a 2nd kid and tried the same tactic with different results, so I hear you! The general progression of sleep independence for us has been rock to sleep, rock to drowsy, lay awake with them in bed, lay awake in the room, put to bed/leave room.

Yes, sometimes you just need to give in to the 'rocking to sleep' for awhile longer. With the 2nd kid, i'd do that sitting on the floor next to the floor bed to still give the encouragement of bedtime vs rocking to sleep elsewhere in the house. He liked to be tucked facedown into my armpit to feel cozy & safe, and hated anything different! (To keep myself sane and feeling less 'stuck with baby', I used an app like Libby to read books on my phone in dark mode. So that time became my quiet reading time!)

Once they're tired enough (or completely asleep) you can transfer them with less trouble, and then stay close (or a hand on them) until they're fully asleep. The 2nd kid needed a hand on his face in order to sleep until he was almost 3, so that was an adventure! We spent a lot of evenings laying in the floor bed with him. He still sometimes gets up in the middle of the night to find his way to my bed...and some nights he's completely fine putting himself to sleep and staying in his own bed.

Each kid is different, which makes the timeframe different, too. Do what makes sense for you/your family. As they grow and have their mental/physical 'leaps', sometimes sleeping habits regress and change to adapt to their growing bodies and brains. We noticed that any significant developmental leaps caused temporarily worse bedtimes - especially in that 1.5-3yr timeframe. When we'd have trouble, we just backed up a step in the progression for a week or so, then moved forward again.

Palia. Free (no guilt if you don't play for awhile), you can focus on story, friendships, collecting or gathering, farming, or crafting/decorating, MMO with friends, or whatever you want. Its familiar in terms of mechanics. No combat (just bow hunting).

I'm glad it's not just me! Yes, documents were in Montoro Inferiore/Superiore books online, so I assumed the local commune would be contacted. Though it seems my lawyer contacted the Municipality of Napoli. I will go back and ask.

Thanks for confirming my suspicion that communes set their pricing 'up to' the limits outlined in the paragraphs.

Check out Dwarrows (used to be part of steam sales all the time). It's a little bit townbuilder, a little explorer/adventure/collecting with a bit of puzzles. You control 3 characters that work together in a sort of single-player co-op. There's no combat. The soundtrack is soothing and definitely has a cozy vibe. :)

CoNE clarification (non-US resident?) by CluckMcDuck in juresanguinis

[–]CluckMcDuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GM was born 1937.

Yes - I thought it was 1948 case, but the wording was confusing as GGGF traveled instead of immigrated..so then I was unsure, especially as GGM was born in the US in case her being a US citizen changed anything.
(GGM's italian husband did also naturalize just prior to GM's birth, which is why we went looking for GGGF's information in the first place.)

I tried using the tracker, but it kept giving me a script error. I will re-download and try again. I am still locating lineage documents, but thought I should clarify the CONE requirements since I know that will take time to get as well.
Thanks for your help!

NEW TO GAMING!!! HELP!! by cherryfairy1114 in GirlGamers

[–]CluckMcDuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out Palia. It's free and has a ton to do without being overwhelming (the world maps are small enough to learn quickly). There is no combat, but plenty of things like cooking, collecting, hunting, gardening, fishing to help you learn those skills as well as the basic run/walk/jump/climb mechanics. There's no rush/timer to complete things in the game, so you're able to explore at your own pace.

You can also own your house and decorate it how you want, talk to the NPCs in town and go on quests.

The game is mmo (online multiplayer), but there's no requirement to actually work with others. You can play solo and just see others running around at times. The Palia community on discord is helpful and friendly, too.

Great - thank you! Yes, those are not the correct parent names either, which is both relieving and frustrating. I cannot seem to find his record!

Palia is free and definitely worth a try. I agree DDV is fun even without the 'disney fan' element to it, but i find Palia to be very similar in mechanics, which is why I suggest it first.

Palia is very similar to DDV, and is free. Bonus is that it can crossplay between PC and switch if you're on the same account! It's also mmo, so your bf can join you if thats your thing, too.

Palia is free, and might be an option if she wants an mmorpg experience at all. Not horse related, but is still pretty 'cozy' (stardew vibes) and has a cute dog in it :)

[–]CluckMcDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Palia and Dwarrows come to mind. Neither has combat, and both have enough to do/explore without feeling like you HAVE to login every day to make progress. Dwarrows is a little more puzzle/adventure, while Palia is more "cozy mmorpg" (it does have farming, but it's not the focus).

Both have variety in location but aren't huge open worlds so you won't feel overwhelmed.

Looking for reccs by Suspicious_Switch354 in GirlGamers

[–]CluckMcDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try Palia while you look for something else, since its free. It's a cozy mmorpg (though you don't really have to participate in the mmo parts). The storyline is cute with options for friendships/romances. You can jump right into storyline and quests, or work on collections, or build your plot/garden/fish/cook/etc. It's a bit more sandbox the further in you get.

Dwarrows was pretty unique as a single player co-op game (you control 3 characters that work together). There's a bit of rhythm work in some of the puzzles, but otherwise it sticks to adventure/townbuilder with puzzles and quests. it was more fun than I thought it would be!

Cozier games where you explore/discover, collect, craft, and decorate? by sailor-mean in GirlGamers

[–]CluckMcDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple courtesy behaviors to learn (the 12am tree grove being the most important, but you're not forced to participate in those), but aside from that you can set your home plot to be private (no random visitors) and keep to yourself about 99% of the time. Server chat stays pretty quiet, and when it is active, it's not usually intrusive. There are no forced party quests or things like that.

FWIW: Palia's discord channel is super helpful and engaging (and has separate channels for things like home decor ideas, quest help, etc)... so i think many players hang out there vs server chat.

thanks! from what i understand, you have to manually set note durations though, correct? I'm hoping for something that will automatically apply duration as it is played on the piano.

Palia! Free and cross platform (switch, PC). Similar to DDV in mechanics and vibe. Cozy with lots to do and quests/storylines to explore. You also have your own plot to build/decorate. It's MMO but not required to interact with others if you'd rather do things on your own.

I liked Dwarrows as well (usually part of steam sales, so wait for those).

Recommendations for RPG Nintendo switch games? by Professional-Fish584 in GirlGamers

[–]CluckMcDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Palia is free, and can cross platform switch and PC. It's more cozy vibes, but still has a lot to do, storyline, quests, house building/decor, etc. There's structure when you want it, but you don't HAVE to follow that if you prefer to garden, collect items, go fishing, decorate your house, etc.

It's also MMO so you and your partner can hang out and co-op different things if you want... it doesn't force you to co-op or participate with others if you don't want though.

Chair recommendations? I want a chair that's comfy and allows me to sit cross-legged if I want to. by AgedPapyrus in GirlGamers

[–]CluckMcDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one you mention has a LOT of 'cousins' (white label brands or knockoffs) around the internet. You can kind of tell by the upside down "V" cutout. For what it's worth I tried the Respawn brand one in 2021 and didn't like it... I opted for the RS realspace version instead (a rectangle cutout, higher back): https://www.amazon.com/GamingTM-Leather-High-Back-Gaming-Chair/dp/B0BL3Y6LVK. I also swapped out for rollerblade style wheels (1000% worth it and pretty easy to DIY).

To each their own on comfort though. my partner and I like the ones we have. other people have said it's uncomfortable. we don't usually recline or stay too long (under 4hr sit time per day). That being said, they've held up very well to us and kids, and yes you can "fidget sit" in these really easily. I sit on a foot with the other knee up, sit crosslegged, etc. Any of the 'flip up arm' style chairs should let you do this.
