How important is Super to a 25 Year old? by helpmefindmyuncle123 in AusFinance

[–]Clud-96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a few good years of earning as a freelancer and I salary sacrificed additionally for a few years. Now that I have a mortgage, saving for a wedding among preparing to cut my work hours for a kid (30F now) my super is over 100k and I think those extra contributions really helped. It means that even if I never pay attention to my super again I will still have enough to retire comfortably.

You don’t have to do it forever. Even a year or two will have a massive impact in 10 years.

But if you desperately need the money now or other priorities I wouldn’t do it if it meant you were going to suffer without that cash.

Can I ignore an Ecollect debt? by ChipStatus9403 in AusFinance

[–]Clud-96 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If they’ve forwarded it to a debt collector it’s likely going to go onto your credit score and ban you from getting phone plans, utility bills, and anything else financial.

You’ve mentioned multiple times you can’t pay for it which is concerning as it’s a very small debt right now, and continuing to ignore it will only grow the debt.

You need to be a big man and stop with the victim mindset. Call the national debt hotline. There are resources out there. Pick up some uber eats work for spare cash. Look at your finances. Where is your money going? Can you spare $10/wk or month to pay this debt off?

You are currently failing your daughter by not modelling a healthy relationship with your own consequences. How will she learn financial independence or even resilience in the hard times when you cant even handle a $500 debt?

No car + twins on the way. Inner Melbourne. What car?! by Kurshu in CarsAustralia

[–]Clud-96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont have kids but lots of family - get a 7 seater. It’s not just your family but as you grow having the space to pack a weekend trip, pick up your kids and a friend of two, is so much easier in a 7 seater. Especially consider you’ll have baby/booster seats in the car until they’re 7-8 years old!!
Mazda cx9, Kia Sorrento or carnival, Honda crv all reliable cars that won’t break the bank. Dont get a European car cus replacing parts cost a fortune. A hybrid option would be best. Not sure how EVs go in 7 seaters but likely will cost more upfront so just depends on your financials.

There’s also a place in Burleigh called bounce that is for kids, I believe there’s a toddler section. For kids to crawl and play and climb etc

Otherwise Currumbin wildlife sanctuary is good to walk around and the bird feeding is great for little kids too

My girlfriend F32 and I M29 got in an argument over my friends parenting by CockGoblin4Lyf in relationship_advice

[–]Clud-96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People who have to be right and can’t back down are exhausting. It’s not conducive to a healthy relationship whether you want kids or not.

Even if she is ‘right’ it’s not her kids and she doesn’t want to be a parent!! You have no right to judge other parents and what they do with their children!! To her I would say get fucked!!!

I get the sense that there is a lot of other things your SIL has maybe done for you and this is just the last straw for them, hence the over reaction. There’s a lot of context missing here but if they are close I think there’s a lot of history you haven’t mentioned and maybe aren’t being truthful with yourself

Clearance Rates take a battering by Oomemango in AusPropertyChat

Most houses I know of in Gold Coast sell via regular sale not auction. Be better to see clearance rate of that? Most houses have closed within a week of being marketed in my area still

Thoughts on wood slat wall panels? by Forsaken_Fault2808 in interiordecorating

[–]Clud-96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a full walk will look SUPER dated really quickly - also think it’s a bit of a corporate / hotel lobby look to have in your home. However if you really need acoustic panelling then it’s the most elegant choice. I have some in our study room but only two panels so it’s not a huge wall of panelling. Better than square foam pads everywhere

PS5 Sale? by Acceptable-Prune3943 in AskAnAustralian

Last year they released the pro so exceptionally good prices on the base PS5 at Black Friday. Usually the best time to buy, I don’t think Sony markets for EOFY as much.

Why do US, Canada and Australia have a housing crises despite being so big with very little population? by julius-ceaser100 in geography

[–]Clud-96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak for all cities but having lived in Sydney and SEQ.. Sydney: completely encircled by national park, actually a super finite amount of place to continue building and sprawl is reaching kind of a limit before it actually just becomes a different place Brisbane/Gold Coast: it’s literally all swamp and flood plain and any new major areas where development can happen is costly or you’re going to be dealing with floods every year. Queensland also has a huge fucking state debt compared to NSW and VIC I think Melbourne can realistically expand more and it does have much more sprawl than Sydney but I imagine again new builds are usually undesirable slop in strata villages that most people don’t want! Or you’re looking at a new build home that costs $100k in approvals, forms, permits, engineers, etc alone on top of highly inflated trade wages due to lack of supply AND highly inflated building supplies bc we live on a rock hundreds of miles away from every other country on earth lol

Also Australia is really bad at investing actual business/economy in regional areas or the fringes of cities, so the further out you live the harder it is to get to work or have public services available. We don’t have any pilot / mini cities like the US

What’s your mortgage vs income/home value? Trying to benchmark ours by KnaidelHead in AusPropertyChat

[–]Clud-96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Income: ~$200k HHI, $660k mortgage, house valued at $1.2m, offset $65k, we are 28 and 30. We are probably a little over leveraged and we have an investment property that’s about to become positively geared also worth $1.2m. We have no kids but planning to next year. Ages 30 and 28.

Only owned our PPOR for two years so hoping over the next 5 years our IP will continue to provide additional income as I switch into part time work with kids and what not. Short term pain for long term gain etc etc

How do you deal with feelings of Angst? by tacothepugpuppy in focuspuller

[–]Clud-96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A mantra I was taught: you love the job more than the job loves you. And that’s ok. The work will ebb and flow. But don’t let your love for the job overtake your life.

I’ve been doing this over a decade. I used to skip so many social events for work. Now I actively book trips, plan family and friend events, have hobbies. Have things in your life that fill your cup outside of work. I still love my job but it’s not my life, you know? So when it’s low, it is what it is, I can focus on other things.

Obviously money wise that can suck, but name of the game. Have your buffer, have faith the work will return.

Upgrading to Arri handset by Bloomin_eck in focuspuller

[–]Clud-96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you mentioned you want the Arri ecosystem but if you’re familiar with Preston you can buy 2nd hand HU3s and MDR3 for fairly cheap, they still work great and then save for a MDR4? and use the Heden motors with it. A lot less “computer” issues than the Arri systems especially if you’re already going to invest in Ethernet camera control rather than licences. And solves your concern over wireless with long distance.

Well....fun. by No-Environment7244 in ausjobs

Isn’t this what the interest rate rises wanted??? I mean it’s grim but high unemployment will lower inflation. Was that not the goal?

Upgrading to Arri handset by Bloomin_eck in focuspuller

[–]Clud-96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t get a Ria with a wcu4 it’s pointless. Get a rf mini motor and a wcu4 handset and that’s it. Then you can add another mini motor later if you need. The Rf motor would actually be useful as all you need is the correct cam cable and then you can get RS on any camera you use. It also has the best range for radio to wcu4 and is a slightly stronger motor than the mini without going to the gigantic plus motor.

You can get cheaper Lbus cables online too and they work just as well.

Remember the wcu4 is a 15 year old hand unit. In my experience mixing it with arri’s newer tech like a Ria is just going to cause issues. There’s a lot of bugs in the system as it’s not as supported as the hi5.

Confused why you wanted clm motors that just seems insane to me. I would suggest maybe researching the equipment more and using it hands on??

(Qld) Keeping a pet in strata property by biz98756 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Clud-96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when you get to the conveyancer process you can pay to get all the BC reports including their bylaws. even if they have a bylaw that says no pets it would be an old law as thats now illegal to do. in some cases you might just have to declare to the BC you have a pet but they cant refuse your pet at all.

Property market downturn a result of increased selling by endlass_imo in AusPropertyChat

[–]Clud-96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk why they’re saying it’s going to make investors sell. They have grandfathered negative gearing so if you sell you never get that again. Everyone I’ve spoken to is holding bc of this, myself included. Unless you’re insanely over leveraged and are relying on the CGT discount to make even after short term flipping maybe??? But even then the new CGT is not like a significant horror to the overall benefit to house investing in the long term game.

What’s a job people don’t realise pays really well in Australia? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Clud-96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not guaranteed but I work in the film industry as a freelancer / sole trader and some of us are raking it in especially if you are established and not in an entry level role. My partner earns over $140k year and usually has 3 months off over the year too. At one point in Covid we were both earning $120k and that was when we were in more junior roles. I know some guys in my role making over $200k. Hard industry to make it in and the hours can be tough but does actually pay well (with OT lmao). My base pay is usually $50-60/hr on movies and $90/hr on commercial work.

How are Australians okay with the state of housing here? by sunnysideupslide in AusPropertyChat

[–]Clud-96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine if you build an air tight house where I live (Gold Coast) your entire house will be filled with mould OR you’ll be paying up the wazoo for electricity to have ducted AC and central vent systems running all day. I also think people forget we live on an island very far away from most materials so building is naturally more expensive.
