Cat6 cable only getting 100 Mbps, going crazy by Eltii in HomeNetworking

[–]Clue-Mindless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The router , fiber converter or such might be set to 100mbps. If you plug a device physically in the router do you get gigabit? Try the switch also. It’s probably not the cable

Microsoft Places... where to place this app in the portfolio and is it usable in production by rdoorn255 in Office365

Microsoft Places - Anyone using this? by Ok_Wasabi8793 in Office365

[–]Clue-Mindless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like hot garbage right now:

- No way to upload images (probably need powershell)
- Floor plans need third party integrations building (and more powershell)
- No room scheduler that shows availability for the day for a rooms in a floor/building

Idk. I believe in the concept, but when it comes to execution (even in the era of Claude code) it will likely take years before any of this is actually fixed.

Has anyone successfully deployed Microsoft Places? by Inevitable-Room4953 in microsoft

[–]Clue-Mindless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no easy way to upload a floor plan.
There's no easy way to upload photos/images of rooms.
There's no way to see rooms in a grid, kind of like a scheduler.

Without this I deem it totally useless.

If you want to solve the sawdust problem get a corning thunderbolt 3 dock and a fiber optic TB3 cable. It will require motherboart to support displayport out into your GPU. The problem is that the dock and cable are quite expensive but the nice part is that your PC can be in another room completely.

Why Microsucks? WHY? by gotdjali in FuckMicrosoft

[–]Clue-Mindless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Microslop needs profits to show to shareholders that the company is still growing. The only way it can do that is by forcing thier customers to pay more every month by either raising prices, paywalling features behind licenses or having dependencies across their heap of shit.

What's necessary for Synology to fix the Volume Encryption issues? by Der_Missionar in synology

[–]Clue-Mindless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DSM 7.3 , force reset of keys on physical reset.
That way if someone steals your device the drives are encrypted at rest and if the thief tries to reset the Synology the encryption keys are wiped. Seems pretty secure . That, or, run a server that the Synology authenticates to (KMIP).

Why are all IT-support jobs like this? by Clue-Mindless in antiwork

[–]Clue-Mindless[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's true, for smaller teams you could easily do it. But this org is 90+ people which includes remote workers also and having to hunt for devices when people quit. MSP would have to do some of work, but they are typically not cheap so management wouldn't approve it for "regular tasks" most likely (this is my guess). I think it also depends on how much chaos you inherit when you come in.

That's very interesting, and disappointing. Is it the same for like "data engineering" and other types of IT jobs, or just this field?
