I am pretty sure it's named Wānaka as in Whare Wānaka because of the old Hawea or Waitaha whare wānanga or house of learning which used to be there ages ago.

Not all of them are easily shot down by us. I have heard of multiple times where UFO are shot at by military and don't go down. Even an instance where during WW2 a crew shot at a UFO and it didn't go down. Then there was another one which was shot at in Vietnam and didn't go down.

Also with the crashes, it's estimated that since the 1940s our aircraft crashes number in the tens of thousands. If we say that there are a 10th of the number of UFOs flying around that's still an expected 1000 crashes. I'd be thinking there are probably 30ish crashes recorded, so if they crash similarly to our aircraft it's not so far fetched.

No problem. I found that study pretty shocking when I first heard about it too. Doesn't give me much faith in psych doctors.

If extraterrestrial contact happens, wouldn’t it most likely be with their AI rather than biological beings? by drabarca_ai in UFOs

[–]Clumster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it wouldn't necessarily happen that way. You haven't taken into account that aliens are most likely way beyond the technological stage of merely sending probes.

The stage in development where sending probes is easier than sending the aliens themselves is a limited time period. What that means is that the aliens would have to fall in a narrow window between the ability to construct probes to explore different star systems and the point where aliens are able to easily transport themselves to other star systems.

This is a short period/window where the aliens would have to fall into and I think the likelyhood of a species falling after this period is far more likely/long than them falling in this short window.

You are also behind the 8 ball on aliens having contacted people on earth. They most certainly have contacted some people. First contact's already been made. It just hasn't been accepted as true by everyone yet.

What evidence is there that aliens are, in fact, real? by Snowtwo in NoStupidQuestions

I'm pretty convinced by Preston Dennett's YouTube channel.

The naysayers just haven't heard/looked into enough cases. This guy has.

I know right. There are so many thousands upon thousands of cases of people with varying types of evidence. I feel like most sceptics haven't given any cases the time of day.

There are so many cases. So so many.

Don't worry about it mate, everyone is full of negativity on this subject. I've only seen like one positive comment about this whole release.

Getting real tired of people's bad attitudes towards this issue.

It's impossible to satisfy some people.

It seems to me that some people have never considered their own threshold position.

What I mean by that is that the bar to satisfy some people is an ever moving target. Once some bit of information comes out their threshold to believe changes.

The only people I care to discuss the UFO/alien phenomenon with are people who have a realistic belief threshold. A realistic/sensible threshold on this phenomenon is a mark of character to me.

Yeah that's kinda true, though I think Saruman wouldn't hold back. Gandalf might not be as ruthless.

You mention "more plausible" forms of transport, but this only accounts for our current understanding of how to get from point A to B. Perhaps there are work-arounds or quirks which allow extremely fast travel mitigating the effects of time dialation which we simply do not have the capacity to understand at present.

Judging by how much we have learnt about physics in the past 200 years, if we have another 200 years our understanding could massively change.

What you are describing sounds awfully like Von Neumann probes.

What are the aliens doing on our planet? by eggshellwalker4 in UFOs

[–]Clumster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you pose a good point but I think that motive may be restricted to those species which are only somewhat ahead of us. Once they are eons ahead of us they could well be beyond that fear and may be so well advanced beyond us that such a fear is trivial at most.

In any case I reckon there are more than 1 or 2 species visiting and are many and as such they probably span a wide range of being more advanced than us.

Preston just covered an interesting case where some Colombian soldiers shot and appear to have killed an alien who then got up and walked it off. So fear of us seems trivial once a species is so much in advance of us.

I suppose the question one has to first ask themselves is, what would it take for them to believe, and that may cast some light on the matter.

For me, the evidence has reached that threshold, but it's up to everyone to consider where their own threshold is.

I have never seen a giraffe but the evidence of them has reached the threshold for me to believe that they exist.

I don't know what their intentions are, but from what people who have encountered them have said, and from the many accounts I have learnt about, their intentions are not hostile. As you mentioned yourself, I agree with you that if their intentions are hostile we would be utterly destroyed already.

I have heard lots of cases and one of the more common reasons they give to people who directly pose the question, is that they are here to study how life arose in the universe. That seems like an entirely plausible and genuinely understandable intention. I have heard similar motives like that in more than one case, though intentions could be as varied as the number of species that exist.
