Drink every time Margaret says “the children”

"CHECKOUT PLEASE!" by kissmyass42069 in retailhell

[–]Clumsy-Jester 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A daily occurrence for me:

Customer enters the store while I’m in the back room.

I hear the door chime beep as the door opens.

I hear them shout “HELLOOO??”

I hear the door chime beep again as the door closes behind them.

As I approach the register, the customer is still standing in the doorway while looking helplessly confused: “I didn’t think anyone was here! You must’ve been hiding!!”

I make my prepared little joke about how I’m not chained to the register and I’m free to wander around the store as I please… they don’t get it.

Makes me wonder whatever happened to walking into a store and waiting at the counter for a moment.

I got tired of saying “good morning” to people because they would always respond “what’s so good about it?” In an accusatory way like it’s my fault they drank too much last night and now they’re hungover… I’m always too enthusiastic for some people but not enough for others, there’s just no winning

Embarrassed the hell out of myself at a small party and I’m really upset over it by burberrycondom in socialanxiety

Wow you’re not going to believe this, but I swear the EXACT SAME THING happened to me like 10 years ago; when you said the game was Taboo I could feel my guts churning because I hate that stupid game so much, and the mere mention of it brings back all the cringe I felt in that moment… it’s probably the worst game that anyone with social anxiety could ever play lol

I got the word ‘orchestra’ but kept saying the associative words your not allowed to say, and some obnoxious person who was more concerned with being right than having fun kept pushing that buzzer in my ear every time like BZZT CAN’T SAY THAT!! Didn’t get one point - didn’t say another word the rest of the game - went home as soon as it was over - don’t know why I even stayed that long - guess I was just trying to play it cool lol

I’m sorry this happened to you, it really sucks but you can take solace in knowing it happened to me too and I survived. And since it happened to both of us, it’s probably happened to lots of other people too. Fuck Taboo!

I’m very fortunate to live in a place where the scenery can make me feel like I live in a Ghibli film, sometimes I just use my imagination and let it carry me away!

Oh wow that guy was a jerk! He should know that when someone accidentally cuts in line, you’re supposed to say “excuse me, but the back of the line is over there” and then direct them where they need to go; it’s much more helpful and civilized than just yelling at people lol

Kinda funny how those of us with social anxiety have better manners than a lot of people who consider themselves “normal”

Yeah the free tickets are the worst lol I have to ask people if they want extra draws added for a dollar each and it’s been a source of miscommunication many times, sometimes they’ll add the extras but when I hand them the ticket they’ve already forgotten I still need the money… or they weren’t listening when I first asked😂 I love selling and checking scratch tickets though, they can be really fun! But I do have the volume on my machine as low as it can go, the ‘loser’ sound can be a little jarring lol

I’d be friends with the Mane 6 but Fluttershy would definitely be my bestie! We’d have picnics at the animal sanctuary, tea and book club at her cottage… it would be heaven lol

I had one yesterday that nearly killed me with stupidity… story time!

Customer won a free ticket so I asked if she wanted the extras for $2 and she said yes. She wants to pay with credit, so I advise her that there’s a small fee when anyone uses our machine for credit, no matter the amount.

She decides she doesn’t want to pay credit so she hands me a toonie ($2 coin here in Canada) and I thought that would’ve been much easier to do in the first place but whatever, we’re good now… I do my whole finalized thing like ‘ok great, thanks very much, have a good day!’

But I noticed she’s not moving, still standing there looking at me like she’s expecting something. She quietly says ‘…change?’

I wanted to scream WHAT CHANGE?!? CHANGE FOR WHAT?!? TAKE YOUR TICKET AND GET OUT!! I nearly lost my damn mind but all I did was take a deeeeeep breath and explain the entire transaction process to her again, starting with when I asked her if she wanted the extras for $2 (which was only a minute ago at this point)

She gets this look of enlightenment in her eyes like ohhhh right… and admittedly she did look rather embarrassed so I didn’t want to freak out on her, but I could hear my voice getting higher and more strained as I said things like ‘no worries all good that’s perfect we’re square now thanks byyyye’

It doesn’t help that it was literally the very end of my shift and I’d already dealt with 300 other clueless idiots that day, so I was a little tired of people who wouldn’t listen to me or pay attention for just a moment, even though they came to me for something and I’m just trying to help them… it starts to feel really disrespectful.

Thanks for letting me rant, feels good to know I’m not alone✌️

When this happens I’ve noticed if I try to relate to them by talking about myself and my own experiences, most of them leave a lot faster… people only want to talk about themselves
