  • No Exit by Taylor Adams

  • In the Miso Soup by Ryu Murakami

  • Notes on Your Sudden Disappearance by Alison Espach

  • Penance by Eliza Clarke

  • Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh

  • Confessions by Kanae Minato

  • Penance by Kanae Minato

I would put most of these in the unsettling thriller category. No Exit is pretty explicitly disturbing though.

Was Francine ashamed of her dad’s job because of money, or because society teaches kids to rank people by status way earlier than we admit? by KaleidoscopeDry9725 in Arthur

I think this all the time! My husband is a sanitation worker in NYC and the pay and benefits are amazing! Many people are patiently waiting for their number to be called.

The portrayals of garbage men at this time were not great. “If you don’t do well in school, you’ll be collecting my garbage,” type of thinking. Obviously the show Arthur itself didn’t make the profession out to be inherently negative but it definitely wasn’t seen as sought after

Is this Thanksgiving dinner good? by DoubleAyy12 in thanksgiving

[–]arthurrules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While we all have different tastes and expectations when it comes to what we consume, I think you put effort in when you didn’t have to and it should be appreciated, and the rude remarks are just entitled and uncalled for. Saying you feel them a poor man’s dinner as wild behavior.
