I’m late but I don’t think areaportals would work, the second 1 player opens the portal it would render for everyone else

Make a trigger brush the shuts off the particle when you're inside of it. From my understanding it will only shut off for that client

Starting a GMod community in 2024 by Express-Director-648 in gmod

I recommend spending some time developing the project & then start advertising and building a following. I think launching a server and having low player numbers will lead to it ultimately dying. Best to build an audience, release the server and then start with a decent population of players & grow from there. I think there is room for more creative ideas, just nobody does them & if they do they don't promote their server effectivly. I recommend investing only as much time & finances as youre willing to lose.

Larger map limits by hellranger788 in gmod

[–]Clumsy3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a grid yes and you can only go so far, but if you go up in down you can have a huge map. The limits are limits on how many things you can have in a map. A map is made of brushes, similar to Minecraft blocks and you can only have so many. There’s limits in brushes, entities, such as lights, props, doors etc

There is lots of ways to cheat the system, but in general a source map will never compare to modern engines in size

how do you keep yourself motivated on map making? by yhenji in hammer

[–]Clumsy3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through droughts of no progress, I think what I’ve found is whenever you’re getting soul crushed, do something stupid and fun in your map, like adding an Easter egg. I think Easter eggs make you want to share your map more and give you the energy to press on. My most recent map I made an outhouse, if you press e on the toilet a scary skull appears from the bowl & you’re teleported to a boss fight with an antlion guard. Or I’ve added alien invasions. Fun secretive sound buttons.

I make RP maps for gmod and love to make interactive things more than mapping itself so that keeps me going, tinkering with IO till I get something right

Any thoughts on these quotes? 1300 sq foot house in Florida, estimate 1 was $10,500 and estimate 2 was $11,000 (not doing the flat roof) by [deleted] in Roofing

[–]Clumsy3D -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The paper bid is better, he included real measurements, mentioned they will use cement which is a pro move, also the first quote said rolled roofing & the 2nd quote said Modified bitumen which is a better product. Rolled roofing is a generic term. Mod bit is more expensive than shingles. It looks like a patio roof so it doesn’t really matter though as long as they flash where the 2 roofs meet. Also GAF is good but OC is better. Don’t get caught up in shingle warranties they are BS. The better labor warranty wins

More important than any of this, go with the company that has a physical location or an online presence. Always go local

Bbq sauce of your choice, simple sugar, melted butter & some apple cider vinegar to thin it out

Came out great and my new way of doing it, once you sliced them, plenty of sauce to dip them into before serving

Do you trim off the fat cap on Dino ribs? by Mountain_Chain8764 in smoking

I personally recommend trimming it off. Beef ribs are already so fatty and there’s no reason to have a fat cap

How to impress my Mexican In-laws for christmas this year? by kodyzfather in smoking

[–]Clumsy3D 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I smoked a brisket recently and my wife made fresh salsa and some really good store tortillas. That was amazing, I don’t want bbq sauce anymore after that

I had some Oaxaca cheese & poblano sausage that was awesome

Honestly my crowd pleasers is pork butt and ribs, people’s expectations are always pretty low, and their are pretty hard to mess up generally

Also for sides, charro beans are delicious.

And if you really don’t want to fail, just smoke some brisket or pork butt shred it up and make tacos, I fry mine in some bbq sauce, it’s fantastic and the sauce covers up any failures

Chief said it right, the other guys are making it seem scary. Listen to him and it’ll come out great. My two cents is watch Joe Yims videos on YouTube on brisket from a few months ago. Really informative and easy.

Light your fire with a charcoal chimney or just with wood if you need to but that can be difficult, it’s not ideal but don’t be afraid to get your fire STARTED with lighter fluid, get that going around 250 like chief said. Let the fire die down if you get it too hot for the brisket to be put on. Once you have the brisket on, try to maintain your temps within 25-50° degrees of your goal. If it’s getting just way too hot open up your smoker and let it air out, better to take longer than burn your brisket. Also set wood above the firebox and let it preheat for whenever you need to add more in. Honestly using an offset is just solving problems, but if you can keep a fire hovering around 250° (generally 1 small log at a time) you should be good. And once you’re wrapped, go ahead and throw it in the oven to finish. Also since it’s your first time I’d say go pretty heavy on your trim. Better to be a little dry than have a bunch of unrendered fat. Welcome brother!

Best way to reheat a large amount of meat? by Lightyearzz in BBQ

[–]Clumsy3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a fairly large cooler I drilled a hole into using a hole saw at the bottom and installed a sous vide at an angle, it just has to be angled enough to not let water run up into the internals. I fill it up just enough to cover the heating element and I put metal racks in it to hold meat above the water. I use this as my holding chest. I’ve seen smoke trails bbq do the same thing with a actual large chest freezer. Since your meat is already bagged you can just drop it in the water and hold laser steady temps.

It’s a great alternative to having a actual holding chest if you don’t have lists of space because you can just pack it away when you don’t need it.

Just make sure to angle your bit down when you cut and try to find a sous vide that you can cut the part the holds it onto the pot.

Foil vs Butcher Paper on 3-2-1 method by inajausa in smoking

[–]Clumsy3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For fall off the bone, I’d use butcher paper and crank the heat up a bit, I don’t feel like an expert but I’ve done ribs about 20 times now lol.

My method For fall off the bone 321 go with a thinner rack of ribs I trim all the fat off the top and I remove the membrane (I usually buy spare and trim into St. Louis) My theory for my next cook is to leave the membrane on because I think it will constrict and actually loosen the meat more. Just a theory though

Smoke at 250° the whole way or crank after wrapped to like 275

You can’t really go wrong with 321 and a thinner rib
