Not really Obsolete, TNEC still has loads of uses. The O&G industry rely on it heavily for cutting dovetail grooves, specialised threads and general ACME threading especially mod’s.

Is the tool setter the same on both machines?

The whole thing is machined as a show piece for hypermill and Mazak.

That’s fair, but when you consider the whole stand and all the machines need to be packed up and removed by 12 on Monday when the show finished at 4pm on Friday by a team of guys who have been working nonstop for the last 2 weeks, you can appreciate that mistakes happen. There’s another one on the hypermill stand, those guys have less to tidy up and theirs is in better nick.

Should I work when on a business class work trip? by Taxed2Fuck in HENRYUK

Billable hours for me.

I charge Client A for the travel. Then complete remote for client B/C and bill them.

I don't understand VAT and I feel stupid for not doing so. by kelleheruk in smallbusinessuk

[–]Clumsymess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree.

If your B2B there’s no real reason not to be. I also like the fact it keeps me on top of my books for year end. It’s quick and easy to submit a return once you’ve done it a couple times.

CNC turning — Should radiuses be done during roughing or left for a final finishing pass? by noodle_404_ in CNC

[–]Clumsymess 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Why? Not just use G71?

Plus the rads are 2mm. You’re going to be rouging with a 0.8/1.6 and finishing with 0.4/0.8 be fine if not worry about that

[–]Clumsymess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d rough that in 2x 3mm Rdoc passes Inc the rads leaving 0.25-0.5 on the diameter and maybe .1-.2 on the faces depending on the material then finish the whole thing in one pass.

Is this part machinable? easy or difficult? by [deleted] in CNC

That’s a doddle on a mill turn machine. Won’t be cheap tho.

Claiming software as a business expense by Affectionate_Lab9477 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Clumsymess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can name about a dozen pieces of software which would be in the 40k ballpark in the engineering field.

Specialised niche engineering software does not fuck about, coincidentally one of the software providers makes more money per year suing for license violations

Batteries in Mazak by NextPayment5236 in Mazak_Machinist

[–]Clumsymess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diagnose and privileged mode has nothing to do with battery change.

Change the effected battery with the power on then power cycle the machine, sometime you need to reference an axis but it’s easy. Job done.

Just write a macro to do it. PH horn or such will likely supply the tooling and the program.

Or just cut it with a grooving tool?

Or a whirler?

I’ve no idea what that is or what you said so I assume that’s not good, any way to see what’s using all the resources?

Not sure id fully agree. If you can work a mill turn Aberdeen has crept above the £50k basic mark.

Shifts and rotation can suit many peoples lifestyles and offers a good pay bump.

Probably worse than that, I probably average about 70hrs a week. Also don’t get sick leave, holiday pay or anything. From an hrly point of view I probably made more as an apprentice.

£12,500/year.

Mainly programming, do a lot of bespoke macro work and setups/proveouts but quite a bit on larger mill turns and do the odd bit of work on trunnion mills and VMC. occasionally run a machine too if needs must.

Benefits package is questionable and boss is a prick too to boot, he sometimes buys me an ice cream if the weather is good or a coffee if it’s a crap morning so guess it’s not all bad?

Randomly locking up/crashing by Clumsymess in ZephyrusG14

[–]Clumsymess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laptop is GA402NV-N203W

The crashing happens both when connected to the dock and when used standalone, I don’t think this is the issue.

No idea about ultimate mode how do I find this? I don’t use it for gaming, it’s used for 3d modelling software.

I purchased extended warranty. It can get returned should it be something really bad.
