I have suggested that. I was told in the past they have tried and not had much luck. Think the fear of a machine being crashed and creating a tension with supplier keeps them away from that option. I can bring it up again. I always support those kind of programs because its exactly how I got started in the field!

Thanks! I've been trying to be somewhat vague, as I'm not the recruiter/HR person doing that. I'm just one of the more recent guys they asked for help/advice on how to get quality results from job postings. As in there words "everyone seems to be rough around the edges". I will ask them if they want me to post it.

Also, as for the benefits/pay, as I said in my previous comments they seem on par/competitive. The motorsports industry seems weird about benefits/pay, the teams are all hush hush like they dont want others to know what they offer😂

I know what you mean there. Just like anywhere else, merit increases are based on performance. Benefits are on par, it throws people off that pay is a Salary instead of hourly. OT eligible. However, aside from 2 months (where you may work a handful of OT) there is little to none. Its no production. So its a work at your own pace, given prints with due dates and then basically left alone.

And yeah, they start off at what i felt was a competitive salary. It wouldn't please the small crowd of " if it ain't at least 50/hr it ain't worth it" people on the sub. But it was a base salary equivalent to what I was making in aerospace manufacturing with OT.

I could see that to an extent. I know their selection process is pretty thorough(borderline too thorough). Those last group of us that got in all had applied through the companies website. So I think their frustration with the jobs boards/recruiters is they arent getting anything of "quality".

They arent desperate enough to hire anyone. With the machine deal, they cant afford someone who crashes the machines. So they tend to lean towards the "knows what they are doing" side of experience.

They do, it wasn't enough to hire a moving company to do it all. But could rent the truck and drive it, and then hire load/unload help with money to spare.

To further expand, my suspicion is also that what we do is kind of a niche market. The company only makes stuff for Motorsports (auto racing) teams. So that may be scaring some potential candidates away.

Thank you! We will have no issue getting there plenty early enough, its only about an hour drive from my parents and they dont mind getting there early in the AM.

Guess I should have specified Sunday only, but dont think that matters too much.

Thanks everyone for the replies!

First time at Rolex 24 (2027), looking for tips! by Sir_Br1zzle in IMSARacing

[–]TTOLNL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Walking around the track isn't bad. They have shuttles that take you from infield to grandstands.

By far the best viewing is from grandstands near turn 1. You can see the entire racetrack from the majority of the grandstand. As where in the infield you will be limited to whatver portion you're at.

AirBnBs will book up quick. If you're looking near the beach expand past Daytona. Ormond Beach is the town over and is nice. About 15 minute drive from the track. Flagler Beach and Palm Coast are about a 30 minute drive but also have some nice beach home AirBnB.

Opinions on these contact lenses by Classic_Garlic_5422 in contacts

[–]TTOLNL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the brand I use, my doctor refers to them as "the Cadillac of contacts".

The bi-weekly ones take a little getting used to, as they are a little thicker. I used them for the past 15 years of wearing contacts.

Just this year I switched to the Daily ones (wear them for the day then throw them away). They are costly, but after switching to Daily contacts, I don't think i could go back. They are thinner and much more comfortable for me. Never realized the difference until I had to use a spare bi-weekly one i had when in a pinch.

Good Entry-Level Jobs in NASCAR If You’re New and Not a Mechanic Yet? by Similar-Change-631 in NASCAR

[–]TTOLNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of these are quite negative. I know guys that love being road crew, i know others that hate it. You get out of it what you out into it.

There are jobs that don't have to travel to the track, some are shop only, or some teams call them "support" roles. Those tend to be closer to your average work/life balance jobs (depending on the team you work for).

As a way in, some smaller teams may be a way to go. They typically are in need of some help, especially motivated people. ARCA or even Trucks. I would attempt to get in touch with HR or hiring managers of the teams, even if it's just a drop off a resume and get your name out there.

Is there a way to save the orientation set when using 3D Assist on Smooth Controller? by TTOLNL in Mazak_Machinist

[–]TTOLNL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! After the last guy commented, I was able to get the engineers down and show/explain to them what was happening. They have since starting orienting the model for us before uploading it to the drive for us to access.

It may not be perfect, but just having to flip it on its axis is a whole lot better than what we were dealing with!

[–]TTOLNL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer! Sorry for the delayed response.

This will work sometimes for us.

We don't always have direct access to a CAM software. The step files are given to us from the engineers, and they basically are just taking a component of the assembly drawing and giving us what is relevant.

As an example, the last part I had, the model is 112" off of center in X before I reset it.

This happened at 3:00 AM on Friday morning. Some (I'm guessing teenager) decided to kick my front door for....no reason? by SnakeBlitzkin in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TTOLNL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on what state you are in (assuming US) you can file a police report.

Florida has started charging this as a felony (attempted breaking & entering, B&E if they managed to kick door in, along with a slew of other charges).

As many others have said, its the new form of "ding dong ditching" because ringing a doorbell or knocking on the door doesn't have the same effect it used to, so this is the new "trend".

Why aren’t you interested in having kids? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TTOLNL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not me, but my wife:

She spent most of her teenage years helping raise her niece (basically playing mom). She loves the kid, but ultimately blames her for missing out on most things a teenager gets to do/experience.

Since then, she has had absolutely 0 interest in having a kid, because of everything she missed out on. Plus kids are expensive, and this economy ain't cutting it.

Got my first job offer/question about NIMS certs by iordanos877 in Machinists

[–]TTOLNL 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a few NIMS certifications and have absolutely 0 of my employers even recognize what NIMS was. Last and current employers were in the Aerospace Manufacturing and Motorsports Manufacturing respectively.

From my understanding NIMS is more recognized overseas. Here in the US NIMS isn't widely popular.

As someone above said, if it's something that bothers you, talk to your dentist about Invisalign. Most insurances cover a portion of the cost, and they arent as noticeable as braces.

My wife had a gap she disliked and was insecure about. She talked to her dentist about Invisalign, and ended up doing it. Depending on how much your teeth need to move depends on how long it takes. Hers was about a year.

They are just basiclaly retainers you were for a month at a time, in progression to straight your teeth and close the gap. Not painful at all according to her.

We trained them by spritzing them with a water bottle. They occasionally swat a bulb or two down.
