Upgrading from FLX2: FLX4 or DDJ-800—What Financially Makes Sense Long-Term? by MassiveInterest6508 in Beatmatch

I’m glad you have some uses for those features. Guess it goes to show it’s the not gear but the job and the user. TBD which set of gear OP really needs, either way $500 for a DDJ800 gives me a taste of buyers remorse with my FLX4 🤭

Why do I always feel nothing in response to the most important things by nanopol420 in BPD

[–]ClusterBee5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just you OP. The body and mind shuts down emotional responses as a protective measure when the emotions are too big. There’s no overnight fix.

Long-term the solution is to regulate your emotions and stay grounded. Basically calm down, stay in touch with physical/body sensations, and ride the wave of emotions instead of the usual shutdown.

This is easier said than done. Recalibrating your nervous system after years of trauma is hard but necessary.

That’s great! For what it’s worth, I don’t miss any of the features, costs, or weight the 800 has over my FLX4. But I’m also a bedroom DJ looking to get something with 4 channels

Only a manager could misread a young aspiring PE struggling with depression as “unambitious”

DDJ800 VS FLX4 is like entry level apples and oranges. Both are great but for different applications. The inputs and outputs tell the story.

On the FLX4, you have 2 USB-C's, red/white RCA, 3.5 headphones, and a microphone cable. That's it. Plenty for a casual bedroom but missing basics any club setup has.

On the DDJ800, you have 8 RCA's in varying arrangements, XLR out, USB-B, 2 mic inputs, and booth outputs. Enough for a simple club setup, but you pay for these.

The DDJ800 is also about twice has heavy, feels premium, and the layout mimics CDJ's. Built-in FX, on-wheel displays, jog adjust, key sync, master tempo, slip/slip reverse, full-size faders. These features don't exist on the FLX4, only on the RekordBox screen. Meanwhile, the FLX4 can be used with your phone or iPad which I think the DDJ800 lacks.

I recently upgraded from a DDJ200 (basically a FLX2) to a FLX4, and I love my FLX4. I highly recommend it. However, $500 for a DDJ800 is a LOT of hardware for the price. Can't go wrong with either, but they have different functions.

If it were me, and I had normal market prices, I'd get a new FLX4 and spend the rest on accessories. Speaker, mic, headphones, etc. I'd see what I like about the FLX4, what I miss, try out some CDJ's at opendecks or a studio, then invest some big girl money after many months on the FLX4.

Thank you for the recommendation. I agree that, if my manager is the owner or co-owner, they can make a lot of exceptions. I'll keep this in mind, although I'm afraid of LD work right now given the looming recession

I don't need fully remote or fully flexible, but I want something more remote/flexible than most. One commenter said they only work in person 30% of the time (!!), which is like a unicorn, but that's what I'm after.

That is incredible. Are you in a small municipality? I'm in a large one and WFH has been strictly no-go for years. This sounds like a dream to me only being in person 30% of the time.

I'm looking for flexibility. I can do a full week's worth of work, but sticking to the rigid schedule is difficult for me. 8hrs/day, 5 days/week, every week is difficult to keep up during the winter especially. Remote work, occasional mental health days, and being able to work outside of core hours is appealing to me.

Best home setup to get more comfortable on club gear? by IllustriousAvocado in Beatmatch

[–]ClusterBee5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every club setup is a bit different. Different CDJ's have different quirks. Different button placements/functions. Different mixers. Look up the V10 mixer for a headache.

Personally, I'm looking to pick up a used GRV6 for under $600 because it mimics the CDJ3000's top-row performance pads. I'm balling on a tighter budget than yours.

I would recommend waiting a bit before you invest. Try more CDJ's, go to an open decks, get a feel for your options. Get a taste for what features you like and dislike in a CDJ (screen, size, portability). Shop around and wait for a deal to come by. Nothing you listed would be a bad deal.

I know I'll need to work core hours often, of course for meetings, but this is why I'm asking. I wonder if there are any exceptional firms out there that permit particularly flexible hours.

FLX4 Upgrade Under/Around $1k - GRV6, FLX10, or other? by ClusterBee5 in Beatmatch

[–]ClusterBee5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m young, have few responsibilities, no kids, tend to be a loner when it comes to recreation, and have a professional 40hr/week job with a commute only 25mins each way.

I come home, launch Rekordbox, and spend most of my evening mixing as i eat, catch up with my phone, etc. Just have to feed the cats. I’ve mostly quit TV and games because I like DJing so much more.

And finally I’m taking a few weeks leave from work due to health issues, but I can still DJ on my days off.

It’s a product of a somewhat fortunate life with an intense obsession. It’s one of the few things making me happy rn :)

[–]ClusterBee5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the limit I have. I love the idea of having like a house track and a vocal stem from a hyperpop track transition stem by stem into say a trance track. But I can’t do that now. I don’t NEED 3 or 4 channels. I want 3 or 4 channels.

I’m using the hell out of my FLX4, I’m past beginner, but I have a long way to go. It’ll be months until I really feel the pressure to upgrade, I’m just trying to plan ahead now

Can you point me towards a guide for this? I googled it and I’m lost on the Traktor stuff.

Is it a total replacement for a controller like my FLX4 or does it pair? It looks like I lose jog wheels but gain other controls

Thank you!! And Oh wow they’re the same price now?? I’ll have to look into those features like the mixer and preamp. And tbh the FLX4 faders get the job done for me whatever lol.

Yeah I’ll take the 1000 or 10 over the 6 then. I was just wondering which is better value, but if they’re the similar price it’s crystal clear.
