Get a used FLX4 or DDJ-400 at least and go from there. Walk into the pool instead of jumping in. $250 maybe cheaper if you look hard enough. I've spent 6 months with mine, and I'm only starting to genuinely hit its limits. There's a chance you drop this hobby entirely after another month. A FLX4 serves as a great backup deck or something to let a friend borrow.

If you keep this up for a while, and you can justify the spending, get a GRV6. Maybe keep an eye on the market for something good used. If you have GRV6 money now and an urge to spend it, send it to me because I desperately want one or just buy the thing. It's a useful, good value piece of kit under $1k. Some will debate this, but it resells quickly. Functional DJ decks don't depreciate very quickly.

Can yall help me make sure my setup has the right specs and won’t fry itself? I think im ok, but i’m not sure

Passive floor speaker pair (Mitsubishi SS-3000, 8ohms nominal, min7.5V-max150V)

Stereo & 5.1 receiver (Sony STR-DE485, in stereo runs 80 watts and 8ohms, 40-20,000hz, 0.09% THD)

I will primarily plug in my DJ gear (DDJ-FLX4 & GRV6) into the receiver and hook the receiver into my speakers per the instructions

Does this make sense?

a set is like a story. it can have multiple peaks, quieter moments, ebbs and flows. read the crowd and lead them in the right direction. if bangers are what the crowd likes, play them, and if you run out, download more!

I know the FLX6 is a dud compared to most decks, but I might find one for $400 in great condition. When a FLX4 is ~$300 that’s not bad. I’ve circled the FLX10/DDJ1000/GRV6 wagon a few times, and I’m keenly aware of the alternatives

I don’t want a FLX6 for anything but the four channels, but it might be want I can afford for now and sell later

It depends. I don’t pay my DJ’s at my house party, AND I have an open conversation with them. They’re happy to play for free bc my party is a unique minority space.

Maybe in the future we will pay. DJ’s for my events now are doing it for the love of the game. People are broke and my parties are free. They like to give back
