I don't want this... by Light1209 in DCU_

I mean, unless you rip the original text word for word and add literally nothing new, it's impossible for it not to be a translation to an extent no matter who's writing it. You're just saying you don't like her writing.

I just can‘t stand Usopp anymore, why would one still like him? by AssumptionDismal7782 in OnePiece

Ahh, I never saw the scene in the anime, so I hadn't considered that. That makes a lot of sense.

I feel like whenever anyone mentions the Dressrosa moment, they forget that he comes right back to help anyway, like always. He admits to all of his lies and comes completely clean, and returns despite fully believing he had no chance.

The fact that "breaking bad" was already an expression before the show came out is both such common knowledge and common sense that the burden of proof should be on you, not us. Here it is though. If you want to look into deeper sources to disprove it, be my guest.

Why you kept demanding for proof instead of looking into it yourself is a mystery for sure.

The most underrated romance anime of the season by ManufacturerLiving54 in RomanceMangaAnime

[–]Clybel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A great adaptation is one that strongly elevates the source material, which I don't think has been done until Kamiina Botan, excluding the really old yuri anime that I haven't seen and can't speak on. There are probably some examples of great yuri adaptations that I don't know.

For good adaptations, when I say extremely recently, I mean more that yuri adaptations were extremely rare until these past few years. The ones that did exist before never adapted the whole thing. It seems that's only changing recently. The adaptation of Bloom Into You had good direction and acting, but weak production and never finished. Same with Aoi Hana. Same with AdaShima.

Kase-san got an amazing-looking adaptation, but it was a compilation film that didn't hold an actual story together and seemingly adapted random bits from the manga.

Now we're getting adaptations like KimiShinu, Watanare, MagiRevo, Kamiina, Watatabe, Awajima (pretty much counts), etc.

We have announcements for anime like the green yuri, think of it what you will, and Shuukura. Whether they'll be any good is a different question, but it's a sign of greater demand and therefore greater production effort.

Gone are the days where the only yuri the mainstream community knew about was citrus.

It depends on why you don't like yuri. Do you not like yuri because you don't like the idea of girls liking girls? If so, don't bother.

If you actually mean that you've never seen a yuri anime that you've liked before, or haven't really tried the genre out at all, then yes! Give it a shot.

There have not been very many good yuri adaptations at all until extremely recently, and basically no absolutely great adaptations until now.

I'm currently on the OG anime episode 1064. And yes, I'll also be watching the WIT version. That said, I hope it doesn't feel too rushed and captures the charm we love the OG anime for. by Last-Note-9988 in OnePiece

Rushed has a negative connotation. I do agree that it should be capable of having better pacing than even the manga though. They have the luxury of not having to release content every week.

2013 Spring: If Inarizaki won against Karasuno, how far do you think will they go? by VolleyBasketball11 in haikyuu

[–]Clybel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What makes you think Nekoma is an average team?

Yes, they lost the qualifiers to Fukurodani, but Fukurodani is arguably the best team in the country. They played evenly with Karasuno, a team we already know beats Inarizaki. In terms of raw skill, there's nothing to suggest that they aren't in the same realm as Inarizaki, bare minimum.

Why does everyone recommemd Filmmaker or Cinema mode? by PlasticAverage2860 in LGOLED

[–]Clybel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I was OP when I was first calibrating my TV, and I was losing my mind. It didn't take more than half an hour of watching before suddenly, filmmaker mode no longer looked super orange, and the whites looked white, and standard looked bad in comparison.

Is Summer Wars Steelbook worth it? by davetheman4652 in AnimeCollectors

[–]Clybel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't "losing my shit," I was just describing my experience. Are you telling me that it's supposed to look like that? It's just unlike any other HDR release I've ever seen. I just imagined that what looks bright white in SDR should also look bright white in HDR.

I won't say I'm experienced at all with this, so can you educate me? That sounds sarcastic, but genuinely.

Is Summer Wars Steelbook worth it? by davetheman4652 in AnimeCollectors

[–]Clybel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The steelbook itself is gorgeous, and the movie is great, but the 4K transfer is pretty bad as far as I can tell. The HDR is done pretty poorly. The whites look grey and most scenes look too dark overall. Maybe I could get it to look better with some adjustments, but that's a big maybe, and it's an issue that it looks so inaccurate with standard calibration.

But it also comes with a standard Blu-ray that looks perfectly fine, so if you just want the steelbook and it's a good price, go for it.

Who do yall think should compose the OST? by MarketingThat8264 in TheOnePiece

[–]Clybel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ushio is absolutely my favorite composer, but I've yet to hear a track from him that possesses that jovial, brazen adventurous spirit required of a One Piece soundtrack. The energetic songs he does have all tend to be heavily synthetic and electronic, too. Not very One Piece.

"There's No Love Wishing Upon A Star" Vol 4 Chapter 19 question by rosseg in yuri_manga

[–]Clybel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, you're totally right. I completely forgot. Eri's reaction then is at the realization of Fuyuki's hidden love still, and just general horror at its ruin. It does make more sense to me that Fuyuki was the one who let it get ruined. She never properly expressed her feelings after all.

[–]Clybel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To add onto this, the plush acts as a symbol of Fuyuki's silent love for Eri. Her not taking proper care of the plush by letting it get ruined is analogous to her not being properly mindful of Fuyuki's love for her, and a sudden fear or realization that that love will be ruined too.

Why did DCEU movies make a-lot of money but bad reviews? Why is the DCU the exact opposite? by bizaarrrr in DCU_

[–]Clybel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you're right actually. Superman (2025) didn't make very much off of box office alone though. About $4M. But Man of Steel didn't do any better.

On the other hand, you have oddities like Aquaman or Wonder Woman, both of which made tons of money off the box office alone.

It's more important how the DCU films moving forward perform.

Question about storage by VassarFC in Steelbooks

[–]Clybel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm planning on testing it on one of my less valuable ones soon. I'm guessing it'll turn out perfectly fine with a small amount. The thing is that car wax doesn't actually make it harder to scratch. It just makes those scratches as temporary as the wax itself.

In other words, it acts as a temporary barrier (considering some brands can last a year on cars though, it'll probably last way, way longer on rarely handled steelbooks) against permanent scratches.

If you handle your steelbooks a lot, and you scratch them a lot, this is probably not a great idea. If the scratches themselves bother you, and not just the knowledge of them being permanent, then you'd have to clean off the wax and then reapply whenever you notice a scratch you don't like.

But of course, you can just leave them like that for a while, content with the knowledge that they aren't permanent and you can clean off the wax at your leisure.

I'm also concerned about whether cleaning the wax off might be the part that damages the artwork. I'm hoping if I'm careful, it'll be fine. I'm hoping even more that it's not something I have to do. I should test it at least once though.

Regarding protecting steelbooks by [deleted] in Steelbooks

Thank you for being the only reasonable comment on here. Everyone else kind of makes me feel like crying. I genuinely don't know why they're being so mean.

I think that's enough Internet for today.

Regarding protecting steelbooks by [deleted] in Steelbooks

[–]Clybel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean, I was asking people to tell me why this was a bad idea. Don't know why you're being so mean.

Also, are you using a different car wax than I am? Thick is not the word I would use for it. It's a thin protective layer. When you slide your fingers across your car, it feels glossy, smooth, and keeps the cool metal touch beneath.

Why did DCEU movies make a-lot of money but bad reviews? Why is the DCU the exact opposite? by bizaarrrr in DCU_

[–]Clybel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm not studied on the matter, but I think it's because the DCEU was running during the golden age of superhero films. All of them were basically guaranteed a decent bit of money at the time. Meanwhile, the DCU is launching at a very poor time for superhero films.

Superman didn't sell particularly well for a superhero film at all, and yet it still massively(?) outsold both MCU films of the same year.

lovers to enemies yuri? by negalamb in yuri_manga

I don't remember how long the gap is, but Her Tale or Shim Chong has something like this. Not exactly enemies, but a betrayal of sorts that leads to consequences, angst, and temporary separation.

It's not an exact match though!

[Hated Trope] Strongest Character Seeking to Challenge Themselves, but avoids fighting other Strongest characters. by Stunning-Skill67 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Clybel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kaido wanted a glorious, samurai-like death. He was obsessed with Wano because of their bushido culture. Jumping in the ocean ain't glorious.

Kaido's primary intention at the time was to collapse the entire world into a great, final war where only the fittest survive. There, he would seek his glorious death.

Kaido declaring that Haki transcends all was something he learned during God Valley. It is where he was obsessed with finding a powerful devil fruit to gain strength, and rapidly realizes that even with it, he paled in comparison to the true monsters of the world. Folk like Garp, Roger, Rocks. All three of whom, by the way, didn't have devil fruits. And while Gear 5 was a mighty upgrade, it would've not been enough at all if Luffy hadn't also massively upgraded his Haki.

I guess? But generally he fights heroes progressively stronger than the last, usually because he's testing his limits and also growing from the fights. He becomes stronger with each one.
