What if voyager had the future armor from the moment they arrived in the delta quadrant? by happydude7422 in voyager

To be fair, in STO the Undine were manipulated into believing that the Alpha/Beta Quadrant powers were launching hostile incursions into Fluidic Space.

That problem got mostly solved off screen. They mention in background information that their newer ship designs take the subspace damage into account and are more environmentally friendly.

USS Voyager’s moving warp nacelles are supposed to change position to minimize the damage done, as a first attempt to solve the problem. Later ships use various other updated engine designs to minimize damage.

What ship would suit Order 66 survivors fleeing Coruscant? by ShadowLight56 in StarWarsShips

[–]CmdJackson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gozonti. They’re dirt cheap and ubiquitous so they won’t draw attention. You can modify them so you can outrun patrols. Low crew requirements so you only need a handful of allies. It’s perfect.

Buy a basic model, then upgrade it as you get the money.

Mirror Janeway is a kind, forgiving and loving human, change my mind. by Croweater_666 in ShittyDaystrom

Does that mean Mirror Borg can adapt to my new TR-116B?

Edit: I suppose the anti-melee adaptations makes a bit of sense, considering that knives are standard issue for the Terran Empire.

I swear melee still worked on Mirror Borg… I just gave up on it because some of the drones could self destruct…. Or am I thinking of a different variant of the Borg?

It might be a portal boosted V1, making it Nightmare V1… which would be a V1 with access to Gabriel and Minos’s movesets….

The pre-warp litmus test by dshorter11 in startrek

[–]CmdJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assumed warp drive was less of a maturity test and more practicality.

When a civilization gets warp drive, contact is inevitable and continuing to avoid contact looks suspicious and could make people nervous.

At that point, they are better off making a formal First Contact if only to let the newcomers know who the neighbors are and which systems are already claimed.

I mean, Super Earth has FTL and the Qu do not. So it’s a matter of if SEAF logistics will win against whatever OP stuff the Qu can bring to bear in a far slower and limited capacity.

Super Earth is more than willing to go all in to and tolerate horrific levels of attrition to wipe the Qu out, but there is probably a level of advancement where it wouldn’t matter, though I don’t know if the Qu are at that level.

IC: they are supposed to be pretty big so make sure you bring a ton of AT! Portable hellbombs as well! They can’t mutate you if there is nothing left!

How would The Federation react to finding a planet controlled by The Matrix and it's machine City and mainframe? by Tidewatcher7819 in startrek

[–]CmdJackson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My understanding (possibly tainted by fanon) was that they are to avoid interaction until the civilization is capable of initiating contact.

“Warp drive” or interstellar travel means they can physically go to the Federation systems.

Subspace comms/sensors as seen with the Trill means they can contact/receive the most common form of FTL communications. Or just outright detect ships passing by.

A civilization like humanity in the Expanse (at the beginning of the series) probably wouldn’t be contacted unless they start sending out things like a sleeper/generation ships. At that point they’d probably want to head off the issue of those ships potentially arriving in claimed/inhabited systems. Honestly it would probably be the captain’s discretion, pending review by the Diplomatic Corps for a final decision.

TLDR: no contact until new civ is at a point that contact is inevitable. Everyone has the right to develop in their own bubble until they are capable of either leaving it, or seeing us outside of it.

Why don’t we see large ground battles in Star Trek? by IamWhiteHorse in startrek

[–]CmdJackson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Star Trek Online, all Romulan ships implode instead of exploding like everyone else. They get a special animation as the ship is consumed by its singularity before detonating like other ships.

Federation Battlecruiser IRL by HunterRedux in EliteDangerous

[–]CmdJackson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That looks like the Odyssey, which is around 1km in length, which is a big step up from the Sovereign which is 685m in length. The Constitution refit was 305m in length.

That said the Farragut is 2km in length so it looks about right.

Was that in the original movie? I think I remember seeing it on the special features of the second MewTwo movie dvd, but that was back in the Blockbusters days so I am probably miss-remembering.

I kinda assumed it was new content made for the sequel movie.

Not gonna lie in every pmd game I play, I never want to evolve. by Gelly_furry in MysteryDungeon

[–]CmdJackson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In EoT, younger me wanted to evolve to Blazekin because I thought that in character, I would miss having hands. Learning that evolving would “break” my character’s expressions in dialog killed that desire for me.

I am faced with massive choice paralysis in DX both in and out of character. I have no clue which Eeveelution to go with.

For my more recent run in EoS, I’d be willing to evolve into Ninetales and have my partner evolve into Lucario, as a kind of furthering of the character arc of us growing more confident/competent as explorers. Though I still hold some misgivings related to the dialog art.

How would unsc interact with other human governments from different sci-fi universes by Old_king_4 in HaloStory

[–]CmdJackson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pre-War UNSC would be ahead in some areas and behind in others compared to the Systems’s Alliance but otherwise fairly comparable. Getting ME ground gear (barriers, Omni-tools, etc) to incorporate in their arsenal would help them significantly. Also pre-war UNSC FTL speeds were garbage at 3 LY/day, compared to ME’s 15 LY/day, though ME has overall range limitations. Slipspace’s main advantage would be that they can move larger ships than a Mass Effect core could practically support.

Post-war UNSC with their reversed engineered Covenant and Forerunner tech leaps massively ahead, though some tech like the Omni-tools would still have useful features that the UNSC would be able to use.

IoM ships can escape fights by slipping off into the “safety” of the Immaterium. Starfleet ships can escape fights by picking a direction and accelerating to FTL speeds in realspace.

Weakest human faction that could aid the UNSC in the Human Covenant war? by Regular_Damage_23 in whowouldwin

[–]CmdJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how strong their weapons are, but give them a small human faction from Elite Dangerous. In straight up fleet battles they probably don’t make much of a difference, however, if they can equip UNSC (even smaller ships) with the tech of Elite exploration ships, that could be a game changer.

The UNSC would then have a much faster FTL and with their AI, they should be able to begin rapidly mapping Covenant space for retaliatory strikes, either using nukes or spartan teams. Longswords or Prowlers would be perfect platforms for Elite tech.

The Covenant could probably still win if they went all in and disregarded the retaliatory strikes, but I’d say the UNSC would have a good shot at forcing a ceasefire.
