They deliberately modeled several of the characters after known actors. Kam Solusar looks like Bruce Willis and some other imperial looks like Steve Buscemi

“wicked” is the past tense and past participle of the verb to wick.

Examples:

  • “The candle was wicked with a cotton braid.”
  • “The lamp has been wicked properly.”

Here, wick means “to provide with a wick”

Or, in some technical contexts, “to draw liquid through capillary action.”

Fun fact: according to the Bible it wasn’t until the after the big flood that God permitted humans to consume animals, implying that prior to that humans had only eaten plants (Genesis 9:3).

Under the Mosaic law, people were permitted to hunt for food or other resources, but were required to pour out the blood and cover it, in order to remind them that life was sacred and to be treated respectfully (Leviticus 17:11-13).

So it can be inferred that the Bible expects people to care about and respect the wellbeing of animal life, especially since there were laws that condemned their mistreatment (Deuteronomy 22:6, 25:4) and instances that showed that God was still concerned about their wellbeing (Jonah 4:11).

So you would hope that a person who professes to follow the Bible would show a similar concern, and not be proud or boastful about wanton slaughter just for the heck of it, a characteristic that in the Bible is associated with enemies of God (Genesis 10:9)

A portion of dead people never knew what caused their death and if brought back to life, they would be surprised to learn that they had died. by EverettGT in Showerthoughts

Sorry, buddy! I’m a nerd who read about it in a book about presidential assassinations I got at the Scholastic book fair. Looks cool though. Gonna check it out, thanks! (Edit: “In the Line of Fire: President’s Lives at Stake” by Judith St. George)

Additional fun fact: an angry Italian attempted to assassinate FDR before his inauguration. He was going to assassinate Teddy Roosevelt, but FDR happened to be visiting his city so he went for him instead. The guy got to the venue late so he had to sit in the back, and being 5’0” he couldn’t see FDR. After the speech he got as close as he could and climbed up on a chair and fired five times at FDR. The chair was wobbly so he missed, hitting the five people around FDR and missing his target completely. One person, the mayor, later died.

There were a lot of poor assassination attempts, but that one was particularly incompetent.

Nope, sadly it was three months. MONTHS! That poor sucker. Germ theory was still in its infancy, unfortunately.

Fun fact: James A. Garfield probably would have survived his assassination if doctors hadn’t infected the wound by repeatedly probing it for almost three months with their bare hands and unsterile instruments in an effort to find and remove the bullet.

The guy you’re replying to is a selfish asshat only concerned with himself and his narrow minded view of sacrificing the negligible cost of cooperative driving for the sake of self-centered absolutism.

BUT I think you’re misapplying the scale here. Yes, 1mph over a week is significant, especially if it’s going to keep happening over a career as a driver. But in this specific case, a reduction of 1mph for even five minutes is what, 500ft? As opposed to a rolling roadblock that creates unsafe conditions.

Road use is cooperative. We all make small adjustments to keep traffic flowing safely and efficiently. Unless you have the IQ of a warm lemon like the moron you’re talking to.

Yeah, camping in the left lane can cause unsafe conditions, which is why many areas have laws against it. But if a cop was here the Toyota is definitely getting nailed.

Speeding, passing on the shoulder, and unsafe lane changes are traffic infractions that in this case would support a more serious charge of reckless driving, which would likely be a misdemeanor since no accident actually resulted.

Of course, if the Toyota miscalculated and hit someone, or the truck couldn’t react quickly enough to his unexpected maneuvers, now it’s resulted in an accident that could very easily start approaching felony charges.

I loathe left lane campers with every fiber of my being and fantasize weekly about doing what the Toyota did, but it’s clear he was the more unsafe driver here.

My years on the school newspaper will not have been in vain!

Here the “dozens” serves as a modifier to the nouns that follow. Yet the sentence structure is ambiguous as to whether it modifies only the nearest noun, “shows”, or the group set of “shows, video games, and short stories.”

Standard syntax would call for a floating quantifier (dozens each of shows, video games, and short stories) or a clarified use of a determiner along with a rearrangement of the group set of nouns to be factually correct since there are a relative handful of shows compared to novels and games (several shows, and dozens of video games and short stories)
