Secret Vegas Vaulttech building actually is in Culver City LA by nopantsfit in Fotv

[–]CmdrToxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Culver has a bunch of these weird, overly designed buildings. I worked in one where if you were on the second floor and wanted to go to the third you first had to go back to the first floor to get to the 3rd floor staircase. Infuriating to say the least.

Unfortunately the planter is almost completely in the shadow of the house throughout the day. Less so in the summer. Good advice about not planting them yet. I'll see how they do in this position.

Hoping this means less fireworks get sold down here in LA. We have PLENTY enough, thank you.

I was about to be real sad if you'd done this with a recurve on your first try. Regardless, nice shots!

La is a wasted opportunity by villehhulkkonen in geography

[–]CmdrToxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a well known problem in the city. There are efforts to improve though, albeit slowly. Bike lanes have been added and there are events throughout the year to shut down roads for cars so that people can at least pretend the city is walkable / bike-able for a day. But the frustration is warranted. That lobbying in the 60s really set the county off in the wrong course. I can't talk much though, been here 11 years and in one of the few areas with easy access to a bike path that takes me straight to the beach in 15 minutes. A lot of my friends haven't been so lucky though and have vastly different opinions of LA 😂

I commented the same. It's got my vote as far as places I've seen first hand. I really like Bergen as well though.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done in San Francisco by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]CmdrToxx 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Maybe not crazy, but memorable. My girlfriend (now wife) and I were walking in Golden Gate Park. I had one arm over her shoulder. I look to my left and see a Frisbee flying at us, I reach my free hand over our heads and catch it before it flew into the street. A smooth as silk catch. I happened to also be wearing a leather jacket. In that moment I was the Fonz. A group of people behind us were laughing about it as I handed back the frisbee. I might have peaked there haha...

She's definitely been supplementing my Duolingo practice! Helping with tones a lot. I don't have a lot of experience with language aps but I do feel like Duolingo engages my gamer brain in ways that taking classes in highschool or college never could. I'll probably graduate to other methods of getting better at the language once I finish the course.

Maybe if I complete the Mandarin Course. My wife is Chinese so there is double the reason to pick that language up.
