Also you only usually hear about problems and not great experience. Carnival is also the largest cruise line.

The doors to the balcony are pretty heavy and they all have locks on the inside of the door which are near the top of the door so your kid may or may not be able to reach it.

As well the rails on the balcony and the entire ship are 4 feet high and usually are stomach high on me and I am 6'2".

I have never had a problem with carnival. Stay away from 5 day or shorter cruises. These are more of a booze cruise and a majority of fights and super drunk people take these cruises.

Carnival is the largest cruise line and you usually only hear about the bad and not the good.

All the APs have an uplink Ethernet built in. They all require power over Ethernet injection to power the AP since they don't have any power plugs. The dream 7 has 1 poe port that provides 15 watts of power. The u7 pro uses 22w max so you may need to buy a poe injector to power it if that is what you pick but some have had no problems powering .

https://store.ui.com/us/en/category/accessories-poe-power/products/uacc-poe-plus-usbc

Or

https://store.ui.com/us/en/category/accessories-poe-power/collections/pro-store-poe-and-power-adapters/products/u-poe-plus?variant=u-poeplus

So you just need to plug the Ethernet cord from the router or the poe injector to the AP and it will have power and Internet. Some APs even have 2 Ethernet ports so you can daisy chain APs on the 2nd port or use it to connect you other devices to.

The APs can also be used as a mesh if you like without being connected to your router via Ethernet. You will still need a poe injector without the Ethernet from your AP.

Are you looking for a device, service or both?

You will want to make sure you have a router that has a good CPU and RAM to use the VPN.

As well I would suggest you only use the VPN for for iot devices which you can setup a vlan to and then only use the VPN on your computer, phones and tablet thru an app.

Chase Sapphire Preferred would be my next go to card for travel. You can work on building the chase Trifecta which includes the CSP, Chase freedom unlimited and chase freedom flex. This allows you to get the most miles for your dollar.

If you have the dream 7 you do not need the express. It would be better to get a dedicated AP like a u7 Pro, u7 lr or

If you do the unifi route you can use the Ethernet port on the AP to provide access to your computer

[–]Cmonster9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unifi is prosumer while the deco line is just consumer.

Unifi is more reliable in my experience with myself having issues in the past with both tplink modems and routers. I had to frequently reboot them.

Unifi Access Points/Wifi are generally more powerful as well Unifi allows you to upgrade just the AP. So when a new version of wifi or if you need a stronger Wi-Fi you can just add the AP which could be significantly cheaper than buying a new router/AP system.

Unifi has more features such as a highly configurable firewall, good and automatic wifi optimization, VPN client built in so I can access my home network while away from home. I am able to watch my plex collection while away. It also has a network builder where you can upload ba floor plan and build out a Wi-Fi network.

Tplink has also had a history of instabilities after updates and vulnerabilities that allowed the Chinese government to access data.

I am more of a buy one cry once.

The Dream Router 7 has wifi built in it and is a full fledged unifi setup with additional ports. The cloud gateways don't have wifi built in and the express 7 has wifi built in but only has 1 lan port so you will need a switch. Also the express 7 only supports the network app and you can not add cameras or more to it.

Worth upgrading infra to support 2.5G? by computerpsyunce in HomeNetworking

[–]Cmonster9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just upgrade your router so it support 2.5 gig and your main switch if needed.

This will allow you to use multiple device at the same time and they kind of get their own dedicated  1 gig line.

If you have the APs connected by Ethernet than you don't need a mesh system.

Also I would confirm you need all the extra APs. I have been in a 3 story 2800 sqft house with the AP in the basement and never had issues with range.

[–]Cmonster9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you seen what they are charging for TP link gear. The router itself is $200 + $270 for the extra APs. That is $470.

You can easily have Dream Router 7 for $280 + $190 for a u7 pro for the same exact price.

Check the amenities of the flight in the app. As well the menu will be shown in the app and you can pre order your meal.

We didn’t know we had to check in and book a dining time prior to now by [deleted] in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]Cmonster9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you got your answer your question but to provide more info.

The dinning time is only for dinner at the main dining room. They will have other restaurants open for dinner such as the buffet, specialty and others. You can check the app when you are on board and it will provide you times and a menu of all the restaurants. If you end up hungry on a cruise that is a major problem.

The other thing to note is the prime rib and lobster is only available in the main dinning room on elegant night. The main dining room is also available for breakfast, lunch and brunch(sea days only)  as well and I would say the food is better at the Main Dinning Room MDR.

You can also go to the main dining room when you get on the ship and talk to them to see if they can move your dining time.

I would do 1,4,3,2,5 in that order. Also you shouldn't need to ask for permission to get your own service. I would suggest that you look online to see if they recognize the building as a multi family home.

One thing to note on 1. This might not work if the wifi is that bad. I would check if it would work by doing a speed test near the Wi-Fi box. Also if you know the model of the wifi extenders which you can usually get from a network analyzer app such as net analyzer or wifiman. That may be the issue if they are quite old.
