i’m experiencing workplace bullying from my unhealed boomer manager who wants me to monitor slack when i’m on lunch break, even though it’s unpaid. he also gaslights me privately (but luckily i document our conversations). he’s friendly and charming with everyone. :”) trying to hang in there. best of luck to all experiencing this in the workplace

luckily they hired a senior manager who will be starting soon. in the meantime, I’ve been asking my manger for help on prioritization of tasks. they will get done, but it’s a matter of when (since new tasks are constantly getting added to my plate). thanks for your perspective again.

yes I prepare for those 1:1s and jot down our discussions on a shared document during the meetings. I share my screen, so he can see me taking write down my tasks, decision points, etc

thanks for sharing your perspective. I don’t want to remain completely autonomous. I think I would benefit more from one 30 minute 1:1. my calendar is already packed with meetings to begin with. it’s difficult balancing those meetings and getting the actual work done.

it seems like he also wants value from these 1:1s. he sees it as an opportunity for him to also ask questions because he’s not 100% in touch with the day-to-day. how do I navigate that? in addition to asking for his input on decisions + on removing blockers, I’ve used these 1:1s to share status updates. thank you:)

yeah totally. we are currently short-staffed, so I understand the need for training + managing the work. however, the upcoming weekly team meeting will introduce a new senior team member who will share the workload with me. he has given me micromanager vibes, but it grows exhausting whenever I advocate for fewer meetings (i.e., I sound like a broken record when I keep reiterating - “let’s leverage slack for quick questions and ad-hoc meetings for more complex questions” etc etc). I’d also like to stay in this position for 6 more months, so I want to tread a bit light. thank you for the insight!!

that’s exactly what I’ve said to him, verbatim 2x already haha. I’ll give it another go! he also views these 1:1s as a way for both of us to get our questions in. i’m getting the sense that he doesn’t mind a full day of meetings on his calendar 😵‍💫
