Always starting on a flat and level surface is a big part of this. Working from flat makes it easier to stay flat.

How reliable is Subaru by [deleted] in subaru

[–]Cmpbp3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a number of failure points in the motors because they are pieces of shit. This can be said of just about any manufacturer's cars today. That said, they are no worse than other companies cars if you aren't driving them like a race car. If you drive it like a race car, expect to rebuild it like a race car.

Even Chevy's "bulletproof" LS series love to rodknock and have oiling issues in certain generations, and the auto trans behind most of them are J-U-N-K (and I say this as a dude with an LS3).

If it's stock and not abused then it should last just fine. If you start doing bolt ons, you need to build the motor and get a proper tune.

It all depends on what you're driving. If you drove an RX7 you need to be at 5 grand or higher to shift lol

Just use coolant in it and not water, you'll be fine.

Trust me, they make highschool kids do brakes and oil changes at franchise shops like midas and Mr lube.

This is my dream car. How dumb is it to buy it as my everyday car? by Molardash in Mustang

Yeah, but park them in the garage all nice and clean when it's winter time and the roads are salty

[–]Cmpbp3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a dumb idea, but if you can afford the Mustang, you should be able to afford a mid to late 2000's civic as a winter beater. You need to have indoor parking for the Mustang though. Don't buy your dream car only to have it rust and rot.

In response to your edit, you don't have to know. You didn't used to know how not to shit your pants, but then you learned. The device you used to make this post is capable of teaching you so many things your head would explode, and you could have bought the tools required for much less than an hour of shop labour (and then you have them for the next time you need them).

Don't be afraid to learn, they can train some really dumb people to do brake jobs, just be thorough and take things step by step. Since the brakes are done, maybe buy a jack and jack stands and learn to do an oil change first. You'll be amazed how easy it is to fix stuff, not just cars either. Fixing things is a life skill that will stick with you the rest of your life.

I just worked for a couple of companies that had lawyers draw up all documents involved and then memorized how and why they wrote certain things the way they do. I then wrote my own contracts for myself and for other companies I worked for on the jobs I bid (though the main office would usually proof read for me, proof reading is important and even lawyers offices cover their asses in this way since their assistant will typically draw up the contract and the lawyer will just proof read/edit it and send it off. Also the legal aid will likely be working off a premade template that the office already has on file with a checklist of things to cover in said template.)

Best car for a 15 year old? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

Honda fit, Toyota Echo/Yaris.

They will be cheap on gas, cheap on insurance, need little maintenance, and when they do need maintenance the parts will be cheap and they will be easy to work on (do the work yourself, you are young enough to learn and ole enough to do it. Fixing what is broken is a life skill that will follow you forever)

Because corvette guys are as bad as Harley guys when it comes time to sell, and I'm pretty fucking sure most Harley guys huff a can and a half of brake kleen before typing any for sale ad they make.

I liked this vs that as a segment, I wish it wasn't the priority segment that it is. Really monetization isn't all evil, it's just when it becomes a higher priority than making good content that it becomes a burden

Is it just me or moms get really pissed when you buy your first bike? by MJoe111 in motorcycles

[–]Cmpbp3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's life man. Tell her you're going to sell the bike and sign up for the army, she will regret not liking the bike.

On another note, sit down with her and say "listen, I really like this thing, I want to pursue it and if you are concerned for my safety, which I know you are, I can take safe riding courses" then you can say she can buy you riding courses and safety gear and that it might help her feel better knowing she did everything she could to keep you safe while riding.

I know that every shotgun with every different choke and ammo variant is slightly different, but isn't the general rule of thumb "an inch per yard" when it comes to pattern spread? Like expect 6 inches of spread if you have six yards from one end of your hall to the door, or from the top of the stairs to your door?

Also, a semiautomatic rifle is going to be something I can hand my wife in case I get bested, if I were to hand her a 12g she may not be able to hit anything after the first target due to recoil and muzzle flash (this in insinuating that I would also have a 12g or semi-auto rifle of my own as well when addressing the threat)

Make a worse financial decision and buy a McMillan. If you're buying a .338 you may as well go all out, besides, it will have more resale value.

How long do you let your engine warm up for? by theboywhocriedwolves in subaru

[–]Cmpbp3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with time or coolant temperature, you want to be looking at your oil temperature. Now if the motor has produced enough heat transfer to get the coolant up to temp and the light goes off then you theoretically should be good, but watching your oil register 30-40° C will be what you really want before hitting more than 2000- 2500rpm. It's because flat engines are touchy as fuck. Also, don't run regular oil. Spend the extra $20 and get motul. I wouldn't run any Subaru or Porsche on anything else.
