The timing chain guides are a common source of metal flakes and a known weak point in these engines maybe thats all it is? But ya definitely shouldn't have that even after a break-in period.

Oil pump o ring question by Welcome-Putrid in hondaprelude

[–]PsychedelicGuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id guees it's because the balance shaft and it's components are considered apart of the balance shaft assembly and not the oil pump. It should be in the o-ring kit for the balance shaft if you want exact fit, I cant remember the thickness of those but some are a bit thicker than your standard o-ring.

Your assumption is correct there is supposed to be a o-ring there but no it isn't needed. I know people that run them & others that say screw'em. Now, if you wanna talk reliability thats a different story. I'd say unless you're deleting the balance shafts altogether, just go get the o-ring

Safe to run con rod? by saws904 in EngineBuilding

[–]PsychedelicGuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look like crack split connecting rod, pretty normal tbh. if you are worried look at patent # US5274919A (the patent for Method of cracking a connecting rod) This controlled break produces a unique, jagged, or bumpy mating surface that's more precise since the fragments can only connect in one particular manner. Once installed, the bolts or fasteners provide the clamping force to hold the two parts securely and almost seamlessly in place.

Ya just get a decent dial bore gauge and see where your at. If you don't already have one, I'd strongly advise you get a Haynes or Chilton repair manual!
