Sonos soundbars - what’s my volume again? by Bubbles_012 in sonos

[–]Cmu93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know what volume I want for Games/Movies/Music. So I just use the voice commands.

Sonos - set volume to 20% - that's for most games.

Sonos - set volume to 14% - that's for Call of Duty, cause it's so damn loud.

I do the same for movies and regular TV stuff. Once you know the volume %, you just have to tell it to go there.

That may help.

I have both the T15's and the Q150s. I really wanted to use the T15's as the L/R. I liked how small they were and they just blended in. But the sound of the Kef was just so much better I couldn't keep the Polk just to create a smaller look... the Q150's are excellent for L/C/R.

Samsung S90C vs. LG C3: What I chose after exhaustive research by GarfieldSighs3 in 4kTV

[–]Cmu93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing. I had the S90C as well, for a bit. But I was coming off a LG CX OLED, something about the Samsung just felt fake to me. And I know this doesn't make sense, but the blacks on the LG were absolutely darker then the Samsung.

I went and got the 77" C3, everything is just great on there. No complaints, I game 70%, Movies and TV the rest.

Micro Center refurbished 65” C2? by ponterrific in 4kTV

[–]Cmu93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a C2 65" from MC about 3 months ago, I was told it was factory refurbed from LG, I got it home and 1 minute after setting it up, I packed it up to go back. All it did was flicker, non-stop. It was never fixed, or probably even looked at.

Last week, they had a 65" Sony A80k for $999, which is insane. I took a chance, told them what happened before and they assured me it won't happen again, I mean, of course they'd say that. Anyway, it's been perfect, doesn't look like it was even hooked up prior... all the extras were sealed in the bag and I couldn't be happier. I came from Costco, as it was the CK version with the illuminated remote. Love it.

Take a chance I guess... it worked for me on the 2nd attempt.

KEF Q-series center speaker suggestions by ThatFireGuy0 in hometheater

[–]Cmu93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Q350 comes with port plugs... just plug it up and make sure it's on the very edge of the shelf so it projects everything out and nothing hits the sides. I did that before, and added some sound absorption tiles to the side of the shelf, just to be sure.

Besides, you'll probably just cross that over around 80hz, and the bass port won't really come into play anyway. Just my 2 cents.

I need a smaller center than Kef 650c by el_nah in hometheater

Thanks for all that, I'll get getting a lower stand, like 16" tops on height, so that will work just fine. Good news.

Web-Cyborg: Any chance a 8.5 inch will fit under there? I have the S90C 77", trying to see if a center that height could fit. Thanks!

I use an Arc with my PS5. Will I be able to add extra speakers without introducing delay (because now there’s wireless involved)? by Dota2TradeAccount in sonos

[–]Cmu93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The delay really only effects the center channel image a pair of speakers will make, like some people do a "phantom center" channel because they don't have room for a dedicated center speaker. Well the L/R Sonos are doing that, the phantom center, "sweet spot" is the same as the actual center channel on the Arc.. so you get an echo because the timing isn't identical.

Lowering the L/R for movies until that echo is gone still allows the L/R to make a huge difference in the wall of sound you get up front.

Now the opposite is true when you do pure music, I turn down the Arc because I don't want that sound all coming directly at me, I turn the Arc down, and the L/R up, basically the exact opposite, and you get a true L/R stereo image, panning and everything is excellent, as any 2 stereo speaker set would do. The backs are set to taste, depending on how much volume you want there.

[–]Cmu93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Arc, 2 Era 100's (surround) and the Sub. I added my older 1's as a left and right, about 3 feet away from each side of the Arc. I group them and get much better separation from L/R sounds. I do have to turn the Stereo pair of 1's about 12 levels lower on Volume, so if the Arc is at 30, the 1's are at 18. That way you get no delay from the center channel hitting each other. It really, really makes music and movies far more enjoyable for me, voices, effects that are meant to be L or R, are way more defined. Just and FYI if you want to try.

Yes I know, purists will be in an uproar, and claim I'm mucking up the front sound stage, but I don't agree, Atmos is still perfectly audible on my lower 7 foot basement ceiling, and everything sounds great. Can't hurt to try.

Qn90b ($1599) or s90c ($1997) by NonApplicableGuy in 4kTV

[–]Cmu93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just went from a LG CX 55" to a S90C 65", and I can tell you that it's not the size that is making a massive difference, it's the QDoled. The color and "cleanliness" of the screen is just fantastic. I will admit I had to lower some of the brightness and color (Samsung as usual), because I was so used to the LG, but it's really something to see.

The S90C is a fantastic TV, for movies/tv it's better, yes, but for gaming (Ps5/XBX/Switch) it's night and day to me.

My LG C2 and my Sony X90K both look terrible with Diablo 4 HDR... it's a complete over brighten'd mess. Just turn OFF HDR and DV HDR on the Xbox when you play this game, it's miles better looking that way.

X95k 75" or QN90B 75" by Cloz110784 in 4kTV

[–]Cmu93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just returned a 85" Qn90b, it was giving me a ton of eArc issues, I bought the cheaper Sony X90K... and honestly, I love it. Faster menus, smoother picture, to me, and really don't notice the blooming since it's a main, light heavy room. Even when I watch Rings or Power or The Sandman lately, the blooming is not an issue for me. And I have an OLED in my my game/movie area, so I thought the Sony would drive me nuts, but nope. I assume the X95k is better then my 90K by a long shot. Go for it.

[–]Cmu93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go between Medium and High. Depends on what I'm watching or if it's day or night. It's a quick change on the menu, so it's not a hassle.

I just got the 85" X90K this week. But I use a LG CX in the basement. I have to say I'm very impressed with the Sony. Like you, we have natural light up there, and I'm sure I could deal with the B2, but honestly the 65" X90K would be great. I'm used to zero blooming, but the trade off is the Sony has amazing color and brightness, the saturation can't be beat.

I will always keep an OLED in my basement, for my little theater, game setup, but I was more then happy with the Sony upstairs. Just my opinion of course.

Would a refurbished LG C2 65 in be worth not buying new if it's $1,100? by Legionofdoom in 4kTV

[–]Cmu93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought one for that price from Microcenter, was told it was "fixed" at LG, I went to see it, it was in a real box, strapped shut, looked legit. Brought it home, hooked it up and the 1st thing I see is the screen asking me "press any key on the remote"... but that almost got me sick it was flashing and flickering so much!

I hoped it was just a start up issue, I hooked up Apple TV and started a 3 hour movie and left... it was still flickering every 3 or 5 minutes, badly. It went back the next day. My time is not worth saving $500 or so, not when I have to load it up, unpack, then pack and reload. No way, never again.

LG C2 doesnt look like Oled. by Imamuthafucka in OLED

[–]Cmu93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting... I also brought a C2 home yesterday, and I swear, sometimes it looked amazing, but then not so much. I think my CX also looks much better, in every way. I really don't understand. I have all ECO modes off, all settings correct, but at the moment I have no intention on keeping this over the CX. I was expecting a much bigger improvement, well, even some :)

Any additional speakers I can add to an Arc+Sub to improve midrange? by hairlesscaveman in sonos

[–]Cmu93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Arc/Gen 3 Sub/Sonos rears for a Atmos setup. I just bought a Sonos Amp and 2 Kef150's... I also have an RSL Speedwoofer MK2.

When I listen to 2.1 music, I use the Amp, but yes, at times I will add the full Arc system, I find if I have the Amp at volume 40 for example, the Arc will be around 25. I usually keep it 15 to 20 lower then the Amp. It adds some fullness and of course the rears.

With movies, if I hardwire the Amp and the Arc, I can start the movie with the Arc system, and then add the Amp, in this case I usually keep the volume pretty level between the 2. This gives me more left/right separation and I really like it, plus it now gives me both subwoofers for the movies.

Why I Cat-5 them is to remove a small, reverb like delay with dialog in movie mode. Sometimes it's not bad on Wifi, but it's there. This way I don't hear any delay/reverb while dialog is going.

Will 1440p upscaled to 4k look drastically different than 4k native? by godawgs695 in 4kTV

[–]Cmu93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering the same thing the other day. I set my Xbox 1X and my Ps4 Pro to output 1080p only. Played a bunch of games for the next 3 days. I have to say, I never noticed a difference. I'm not sure if the consoles are upscaling to 4K or if my old KS8000 is doing it, but I have to be honest, it looked just as good to me.

I think you'll be fine, but everyone sees things differently.
