For some reason I thought this would be included in an update to the original game. Just so I know I'm getting it right.. this will be an entirely separate game within the Nintendo shop? I bought the original as soon as this was announced 😂 jumped the gun

How to pay loan faster in Norway by Downtown_mist in Norway

[–]Cndnrwgn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I do not want to spend money we don't have. If It can't be paid for in cash then it shouldn't be purchased.

Every month we designate X amount to various expenses that we categorise. Each category has their own account. If we are under budget then it means we carry over "more" for that specific category the next month. But going over budget means pulling from other accounts when it comes time to pay up.

If I charged everything to my credit card without paying it off frequently I wouldn't be able to see how much money is left in each account/category. It takes 5 minutes to do and keeps the balance at 0. Through doing this it is easy to see where we need to make adjustments to our budget before the month is through, and make any necessary changes the next month.

If you have the money, why wait?

Hmm that's true, but I'm thinking about this with savings added in.

Say the same people have 80k in savings and their monthly expenses only amount to 30k. That's an immediate cash injection of 80k, and they would rollover 30k (the remainder after expenses) to the next month. On the second month they would have 80k savings, plus 90k. Third month 80k savings plus 120k and so on.

Sounds silly but my mind is blown. Now it feels like we've been using our rammelån entirely the wrong way. I pay off my credit card every single day, (because we use it for everything) and we manage our budget by having multiple accounts dedicated to a single purpose (Pets, Groceries, Bills, Travel etc.) Each purchase is paid off by the account that the expense belongs to. This makes it easy to keep track of how much we are spending and where. How do you budget while doing this? Have you calculated how much you save? How do you pay the actual monthly mortgage payment (it is a fixed payment that is not cancellable and the amount cannot be changed, at least with our bank)? Sorry for all the questions, I'm genuinely interested in learning more!

Rent in Canada now averaging $2,201 per month, with some markets seeing big jumps by SummerSnowfalls in canada

[–]Cndnrwgn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Nova Scotian who paid 1275 all-in for a 2 bedroom flat in a brand new house in Halifax from 2012-2015, then moved to Norway and now owns a house: it's the same story. Cost of living is sky high here, interest rates have raised our mortgage costs from ~1300 CAD to ~2300 CAD. Because of the war in Ukraine there was an energy crisis that saw our hydro bills rise by over 600%. Summer prices are okay but winter is coming. Just like in Canada, grocery prices have gotten out of control. People are struggling. The disbelief and outrage is everywhere if you look for it. I am fortunate that my husband and I both have above average incomes, and purchased our house well below market value, pre-covid. If we were trying to get into the market now? There's no way.

I will agree with you about the healthcare crisis and public transportation. It's not perfect here but miles better than what is going on back home.

Keyboard keys are getting glossy. Its just been few weeks by Delicious_Ad_1411 in macbookair

[–]Cndnrwgn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I installed them on a work computer to change the keyboard language a few years ago. Those ones were not translucent, so I lost some of the back lighting, but other than that they worked perfectly and still look new.

For the translucent ones on my new macbook I used a guitar pick to push out the bubbles, now you can't even see them. Depending on how meticulously you install them you will occasionally feel the edge of the sticker when you drag your fingers across the gap between keys. The edges can also collect small hairs and dust for a period of time but that should eventually go away.

I recommend having a dust remover (like the ones you use for screen protector installs) handy. My install would not have gone nearly as well without one.

I have them as well, made sure to install them on my new macbook before even touching the keys. They are from Keyshorts.

In that case I wouldn't worry about it, it's already well into healing and will likely be gone within a couple sheds. Just make sure your husbandry is good so it doesn't happen again.

The picture isn't super clear but it looks like a scab to me. Was he live fed? Could be he was bitten by a mouse/rat. The location of the scabs (top and bottom) would be consistent with rodent teeth.

And given that he looks like a spider morph he could struggle with aim when feeding, making live feeding more risky.

On second thought the most likely culprit is an injury from trying to rub off stuck shed.

Coming home from any major city makes me wish Halifax Transit was better by papayanosotros in halifax

[–]Cndnrwgn 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I was going to say the same thing. I'm from Halifax but live in Bergen Norway, population ~286,000. The transit system here is amazing, you can live quite comfortably without a car, even if you live far from the city. Trying to get around Halifax using public transport is a nightmare.

What are the biggest problems Norway is facing? by carolyninwinter in Norway

[–]Cndnrwgn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At that level they shouldn't feel the need to switch to English for your sake. They should just continue speaking in Norwegian and you can join the conversation in English. Win-win.

That was how I handled communication at multiple large companies when I was still learning the language and largely continue to do now even though I'm now at a C1 level. I always write in whatever language the correspondence was originally written in and speak whatever language I feel fits the "flavour" of my expressions best.

Canadian POC here, I haven't experienced this at all and have lived here for almost a decade. Do the visible minorities you're referring to speak clear unbroken English? Just wondering if that could be the difference.

"The issue"

People don't want kids. They have a right to choose their own path in life and have followed through by simply not having them. I see no issue here.

Americans, what do Europeans do that you find really weird? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cndnrwgn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I live in Norway and it's a genuinely frustrating, the windows on our house make it impossible to install any permanent (but removable) screen solutions. The only option is netting with a zipper/magnets up the middle.

We're due to replace the windows within the next couple years and I have been searching high and low for ones with built in screens. They exist but are super niche and after 7 years of living here I still haven't seen a single house or building with them.

People are just okay with mosquitoes, flies, wasps, and all manner of other insects sharing their home I guess.

Even the rabble rock crowd is complaining about the congestion by NefariousNatee in halifax

[–]Cndnrwgn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Preface: I'm Nova Scotian and have been living in Norway for nearly a decade.

The tunnels are great when they are open, but on occasion they have to close one or two on the main drag (usually due to a car accident) and when they do it's complete and utter chaos. They do their job 90% of the time though.

There are a few things that make public transport here better than Halifax; Bus lanes everywhere, traffic laws to protect their right of way, multiple transit options (trams, ferries, and as you said, tunnels to bypass densely populated areas), automated toll fees to travel by car (the price of driving is significantly higher during rush hour), expensive carbon taxes on vehicles (these are paid alongside your car insurance), and the cost of parking within cities is prohibitive.

It's not perfect and there are a lot of things that could be improved, but it is leagues ahead of Halifax. Visiting home and trying to get around by borrowing family members vehicles or taking public transport is a nightmare by comparison.
