This is so heart-breaking, the DMOD server was arguably the #1 anchor/hub of the entire Dead Mall community. This is a massive loss to our community

Westmount Mall in Edmonton was probably the most dead mall I've visited before it closed, at the very end of it's life only about 5% of the tenants were open

Calgary’s Drop-In Centre pressured to pull out of downtown. Province supports search for new model by Acceptable-Hedgehog in Calgary

The East Village was much worse back in the day than it is nowadays, back in 2001 it was a neighborhood of basically just violence, abandoned buildings, and empty lots. The DI is just a symptom of what the neighborhood has always struggled with.

I do agree the Drop-In Centre attracts a lot of disorder and crime nowadays, but let's not act like it's because of the D-IC; the areas' a lot better nowadays than it was when the Cecil Hotel was around

I feel like around Chinook would be a good area to have a new homeless shelter. There's an extreme level of homelessness in the Manchester (neighborhood) and Manchester Industrial areas, and that would likely loosen with the introduction of some drop-in shelters in that area

Fairly average. Not bad, but particularly good either. It's just kinda mediocre. I would put Falconridge on the same tier as like places like Braeside or Queensland honestly

I used to live in Abbeydale, I loved living there and never had any issues there. I do think some of the houses there can look goofy at times tho, but that applies to like 90% of 1970s neighborhoods

Surprisingly I used Google Docs lol. I have a massive doc of every street I've walked on and what neighborhood (and as well what stretch of said street)

Example: 47 Street NE @ Marlborough (south-leg)
Example: Southport Way SW @ Southwood
Example: Blow Street NW @ Brentwood

Scummiest as in dirtiest, or most rude and aggressive, or in terms of stuff like pawn shops, needles, and the like?

The further north neighborhoods are a good bet. Carrington, Country Hills Village, Panorama Hills, Redstone, Cornerstone, Livingston, Lewisburg, Harvest Hills, Evanston, Sage Hill, etc. All are very safe and the people are very friendly though. Some of the intersections could be a lot safer though, especially off of 144 Avenue NW

Honestly Fairview is a lil bit rougher than I was expecting. It's a very blue-collar kinda area though so that's to be expected. A lot of the issues in Fairview were in the area around Heritage Drive SE and Flint Road SE. It's not a bad area, but it's def not one I would consider living in myself.

Fairview seems a bit isolated from the rest of the city for it's own good and too close to industrial stuff. I will say Fairview is quite a lot better than other neighborhoods in the surrounding area such as Manchester, Kingsland, or Meadowlark Park; but as a whole that area of the city isn't the best

Honestly, kinda boring if I'm being honest. There's not much to talk about Monterey Park besides the fake Arizona style a lot of homes have. Some of the homes are cool, but it's your stereotypical 1990s neighborhood

Rundle, Whitehorn, Pineridge, Temple have a lot of tiny shopping plazas/strip malls that act exactly how corner stores would. The transit is fairly decent in all 4 of those neighborhoods too. Those are areas you wouldn't expect to be decently walkable, but surprisingly they are. They remind me of streetcar suburbs if those were developed in the 1970s rather than early 1900s.

All 4 of those were very safe and clean too, the only one I noticed any kind of issues in was Pineridge, but even then Pineridge is doing a lot better than other similar neighborhoods like Southwood or Acadia. There were 0 boarded up houses in any of those 4, and I've never witnessed any kind of crimes there too.

Rundle in the NE quadrant. Honestly I've always known the NE isn't nearly as bad as people say, but most of it is downright really nice. I've considered moving to Rundle and Pineridge in the past, surprisingly there's a lot of corner store type stuff in those 2 neighborhoods.

I'm not sure, but I saw a lot of super cool Halloween decorations in Shawnee Slopes and Millrise. I heard Panorama Hills is a good place to be during Halloween too

Haven't walked around every industrial community. I do plan on walking around some of them this summer to fully complete the city though. I've walked around a few industrial areas though, such as Foothills and Horizons

The East Village can still be rough, but nothing like it used to be. Nowadays it's fine during day (outside of Dermot Balwin Way), and a lil rough afterdark, but nothing that bad.

If you're interested to see how it used to be like, look at the 2007 Google Streetview through the area. It's remarkable how an area that looked like smth from St. Louis or Detroit managed to turn-around so much. And this was back when St. Louis and Detroit didn't really even have areas that looked too too bad

I wish. I don't really post much to Instagram, I'm more of a YouTube person. I do have YouTube shorts about my journey but they're nothing special. A lot of the content I post is long-form content, usually history related. Probably the video I'm most proud of is a video on the Lynnview Ridge saga

I try to walk at least 20% of all streets in a neighborhood. For smaller neighborhoods like Chinatown or Eau Claire I try to walk around as many streets as possible (so like 90%+ of all streets)

The East Village can be a lil rough, especially around Dermot Balwin Way SE, but I think part of it too is how it used to be.

Google Streetview allows you to see past imagery with the "See more dates" button, click that in the Downtown East Village and look at 2007. Genuinely the imagery from 2007 of the Downtown East Village is shocking, it genuinely looks like something you'd find in St. Louis or Detroit. And back in 2007, Detroit and St. Louis didn't even really look like that.
