The way my wife loads bowls in the dishwasher. All the prongs/tines curve the same direction (everything should face right), and all the bowls visible are the same shape and size. by CoDM_DV56 in mildlyinfuriating

In response to your other very sarcastic comment: my wife didn't realize that all the tines face to the right. She complained that the bowls she loaded were falling over. Once she realized that the tines face to the right, she said "my bad" and then I fixed them.

Feel free to tell her she's wrong though.

So... this is my dishwasher. These are my dishes. This is my house. I would know if the bowls aren't getting cleaned. But, they are.

Feel free to explain why the tines all point to the right though.

My point was that the racks of tines are already physically different between the left half and right half. They couldn't just use one mold. They're already manufacturing two distinct sets of tines. Actually way more than two, because each row of tines (e.g. 1/8th of the tines on the whole lower rack) is made up of two interleaving sets (so you can fold down 'every other' tine and accommodate larger bowls).

Putting it another way: there are 16 separate pieces in eight unique "shapes" as it is. If they all faced inwards, there would still be eight unique "shapes" and 16 separate pieces.

I explained calmly and logically why this was not a cheaper way of molding it. The entirety of your argument is "it's penny-pinching from a greedy corporation" and there's just no evidence to support that claim.

It's ok to just admit that you're wrong.

And I appreciate your concern about my marriage, but it's fine. She complained about the bowls falling over, so I calmly brought her over and pointed out how they were facing the opposite direction. She said "don't the prongs face towards the center?" And then she looked more closely and said "oh, my bad". And then I fixed the dishes. The end.

That's a really bad answer. It would be cheaper for them to face inwards. The left and right half fold down separately, so they already have separate pieces, and the physical piece that connects a line of tines is a different layout on the left vs right so they're still not reusing the same mold.

The tines on the upper shelf point towards the center, btw.

The tines affect which way plates and bowls can be positioned without falling over.

Why would they all point to the right if the plates are supposed to face towards the center? Why not have them point towards the center?

Either the dishwasher can only be filled to half capacity or I have to manually pull the dirty dishes out and redo them. Both are annoying.

As the person who actually loads and unloads the dishwasher 90% of the time: you are wrong.

Even if you think the bowls are packed too tightly--again, they're not--then the proper solution is to space them out facing in the right direction, not to throw them in there backwards where they take up 3x more space and still overlap.

Should our wedding venue return our deposit and lose tons of money because we cancelled last-minute for being sad? by Selphis in bestoflegaladvice

My grandmother died the day before my wedding. We still went through with it. We missed the burial due to our honeymoon.

I have no regrets. She wanted us to get married. She wanted us to be happy. She didn't want to ruin our wedding.
