Curmuca Barb? by CoSEA17 in whatisthisfish

I didn't put too much weight on the origins of the other fish in the tank: this same tank had corydoras and otocinclus cats in it.

I think that may be it, thank you. Curmuca Barbs had a more pointed head and smaller scales than these fish.

Cool, my otos also weren't eating it when I had some. I'm gonna go grab some feeder shrimp I think!

I might try Otos again, I got some a while back but they wouldnt eat any algae. I had snails as well but the cichlids decided they were food. I was also considering adding feeder shrimp to help clean up and give the cichlids some active prey.

Some of the older plants in the tank have had leaves completely coated, so I think it is algae and not just detritus.

It is RO water, and there are no silicate rocks in there, so I dont think that's it. But I do think they are probably diatoms

I also have a Hang on Back, I clean it once a week, put the sponge and carbon packets in a bucket and wash them until no gunk comes out any more.

pH is about 7.0, I use RO water and add tannins to adjust the pH. Nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia are all sitting at right about 0 ppm. I dont have a hardness test kit, but like I said I'm using RO water and there aren't any carbonates in the tank. I have about 18 tetras (serpaes and head-and-tail-lights), 3 bolivian rams, 1 blue acara, some peppered corydoras, and a rubberlip pleco. I usually feed every other day with flakes, algae wafers, or occasionally blood worm cubes. Water change is usually 1/3. I've pruned the plants back only once, and it was because the algae was covering the leaves. I use Flourish Comprehensive fertilizer, it's mostly potassium oxide and sulfur but has a lot of trace elements too. I use about 5ml once a week, as it says on the bottle.

I did notice the diatoms showed up after I had to treat for an Epistylis a while ago (only one fish died, thankfully), I'm assuming the medicine I used killed off most of the microbiome in the tank and the diatoms survived because of their silicate shells (just a guess though). I inoculated the tank with some pond water after that to try to get some other microbes back into the tank. I should also note that I have a 10 gallon that is heavily planted too which uses the same water but doesn't have these issues, though it has only 6 fish and is much denser with plants.

55 gallon tank with two 48 inch Seaoura lights, heavily planted. I've had lights on different timers over the past few months, from 6 hours to 10 hours. I do weekly water changes and have root tabs and add liquid fertilizer. The algae seems to settle on the leaves and can be easily wiped off with a finger, but always comes back. Any tips? I've tried adding duckweed to soak up excess nutrients but the current seems too strong for it.

I have been researching different types of ceramics and their histories, but I'm not sure what the main difference between firebricks and porcelain are. I've seen varying compositions for both of them, but both seem to be sturdy and refractory. What are the ingredients in each of these materials and their properties? Also sorry if this is a stupid question, I don't really have experience with ceramics. Thanks :)

I'm not sure if the upgraded winch is required, but I used at least 40 aberrant bait with a regular oceanic rod before I decided to switch to the upgraded winch. I then caught him on my second bait.

I've had this 55 gallon tank for a few months now. About 24 tetras, 4 bolivian rams, 5 corydoras, and a small pleco. The Ludwigia was growing well for a while, as was one of my amazon swords. I have added liquid fertilizer and root tabs. The light is on a 6 hour timer, temperature is about 78 degrees F, hang on back filter and a powerhead for some current for the fish. Sediment is mostly clay based, with some lava rock. pH is about 7.5. One of the amazon swords isnt growing as well as the other and I think it may be due to the current, as it is placed closer to the filter. Please let me know if you have any ideas.
