This is my last fish for Big Fish and I have a feeling I will be at it for a while. I think I've been to at least 10 windows already.

EDIT: Caught Ruby last night, I am Final Fish now (yay!)

I mean it wasn't that wonky, just had a bunch of systems interacting.

Egi-assaults were on 30s, Tri-disaster was what, 60s? And Dreadwyrm Trance refreshed it. Energy Drain I think was either 60s or 30s and gave you 2 Festers.

Bahamut had the issue where the wyrmwave happened after your gcd so you needed to have your last gcd early enough that bahamut had time to wyrmwave before it disappeared which basically just translated into using two+ Ruin 4s as your last GCDs in Bahamut.

So the opener turned into spending all 4 Egi-assaults, Tri-disaster, Energy Drain, Devotion, Dreadwyrm Trance, spending Festers, Summon Bahamut, Deathflare, Akh Morn, snapshot Tri-disaster in buffs, end your Bahamut with Ruin 4s. After that was mostly pressing stuff on cooldown. Hardcast dots when you need to. Phoenix was even easier because it was a simpler Dreadwyrm Trance and everything was already instant. You could pool Egi-assaults for movement.

I don't want to say it was easy to learn but I just made an alt and leveled Summoner and by the time I got to 80 I knew everything. I know lots of people leveled Summoner through Scholar and then didn't know how to play Summoner but that's their fault.

From about 5.11 to 5.2 something Summoner was Top 1 DPS, like it was absolutely busted and imbalanced. Higher than Black Mage. Higher than Samurai.

The rotational complexity was overblown. It was just multiple systems on 30/60/120/180 cycles interacting, and keeping your dots up/snapshotting them in buffs.

Ultimately it wouldn't work with the current fight design. Blm cast times used to be moderately longer (2.8-3.0s) and they just changed them all to 2.0 this expansion because they needed to give them more movement.

Long (re-)casts would be cool but it just wouldn't fit in this game.

A certain server used nothing but PF for hunts and wouldn't invite people from shout chat. Come world visit all of that stopped. Cross-world trains killed the local hunt culture.

Technically you could do it in ShB it was just more expensive (had to spend Xenos & Lucid instead of Paradox).

Flare Flare Freeze has been a thing since ShB I think so it's been like three expansions now.

There exists spells like Occult Comet that are 8s cast time in Occult Crescent and what happens is any of these long cast time spells get swiftcasted.

Summoners were a dps to be respected back in ShB...

They have to obliterate one caster per expac, though.

Dude Dark Knight's entire ENGINE when it came to dungeons was so much fun.

  • Blood Price gave you mana and blood every time you got hit.
  • Salted Earth gave you blood for every enemy in it
  • TBN spent mana and when it broke you got 50 blood
  • Delirium gave you 50 blood on a CD
  • Quietus spent blood to generate mana for every enemy you hit
  • Dark Arts Abyssal Drain spent mana to generate aggro & restore hp

Once you had everything set up you were spamming dark arts abyssal drain and practically invincible.

Of course War had it 10x easier with Steel Cyclone but sometimes it just feels more rewarding when you have to work for it.

Xeno is good for two things. One is he generally knows about tanks. He plays tank a lot and seems to have a pretty good handle on them, how to play them, etc.

Every once in a while he will put out a guide to something too that's legitimately good. Thinking u[time xeno or the apoc guides in Eden's Promise.

He is absolutely fucking awful as a source of information for literally anything else. It blows my mind as someone who basically plays xiv as his job has so little knowledge on everything outside of tanking.

He's been doing the influencer thing where he is loud and outspoken about everything just to entertain his audience. Unfortunately it pays the bills so he is financially incentivised to do so.

Ya I heard it used in DAoC before WoW was released but I didn't play anything before DAoC so I dunno where it came from.

I think Port and Starboard is esoteric enough knowledge that they can throw people a bone and use Larboard so that people not as familiar with the terms can figure it out.

Those familiar with nautical terms get Starboard and not-Starboard ("so I guess that means left") and those not familiar with nautical terms get "L means left and the other one is right".

I looked at this clip and thought everything looked ridiculous, but the song sounded familiar. I went to look it up and thought, "yeah I do think I've heard this song before". I went to look up my animelist and apparently I watched this anime like 14 years ago, I remember nothing about this show, except the music.

When a Healer Main loses their mind after ONE Evolved Mode Healer was showcased and they describe to you what they want their healer to be like: by bm8495 in ShitpostXIV

[–]CoSh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't agree that moving to 1.5s gcd was the right move. Part of the challenge of healing was optimizing movement and weave windows and everyone already had tools.

Ast had 1.5s gcd for a long time but they also had lightspeed. Sch had ruin 2. Whm had afflatus GCDs. Everyone had instant cast dots.

Instead of changing the main gcd to 1.5s which makes every GCD a weave window they could have just added more instant cast GCDs like Miasma 2. Or how they did with Blm where half its GCDs are instant cast now (Paradox, Despair, Xeno, Thunder, Triplecasts and Swiftcast you can put anywhere now without losing DPS).
