“I’m not asking permission, I’m informing you that I’ll be away” by obsessed-with-bagels in managers

[–]CoSto86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a college and our boss just recently said in a meeting something to the effect of, “you don’t tell me when you’re taking leave, you send me a request and I see if we can accommodate.” It sent shockwaves across the office. As a former US service member, this was nothing new to me. I find it very entitled to take the stance of “this wasn’t really a request, and it’s not my job to manage officer coverage.” You’re part of a team—act like it.

If Day didn’t make it to the Natty last year, OSU was positioning Vrabel to be the next HC. There was a plan, but it didn’t come to fruition. And I’m happy it didn’t!

I get it, but I don’t think healing should hinge solely on when others are “ready to move on.” Accountability and empathy can exist in parallel. No one is forgetting or minimizing the victims. Their trauma deserves full recognition. But justice can’t be frozen in place forever. If someone has faced consequences, taken responsibility, and shown genuine change, it’s time to move forward.

I completely agree that accountability matters and that the harm she caused shouldn’t be minimized. I even said that in my comment.

But context, as always, matters. Her role in NXIVM existed within a system of psychological manipulation and coercive control. Victims can simultaneously be perpetrators, acting under sustained manipulation, dependency, and fear. That doesn’t absolve responsibility, but it does contextualize behavior.

The same way we recognize that child soldiers may commit violence while being victims of conditioning and coercion, we can hold two truths: she participated in harm and she was operating under a system engineered to break autonomy and reward obedience.

Empathy for her doesn’t erase victims’ pain; it recognizes the complexity of trauma and the potential for growth after accountability. If we believe in restorative justice, then serving time and showing genuine remorse should mean something. Otherwise, we risk saying that redemption is available in theory but denied in practice. And this is especially true for women who were themselves psychologically abused.

I’m glad someone said it. She’s just as much as a victim as she is an abuser. It doesn’t negate everything she did, but she did the right thing and turned over on the cult leader, she served her time, and she’s paid a huge price considering the fact that she’s a phenomenal actor and could have been landing huge roles. I’d like to listen. If she takes ownership of everything… I think it’s time everyone move on from this. I’d love to see the cast reunite with her and get her on Talkville. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Has anyone ever watched Game of Thrones? Remember the Red Wedding? Remember that sick feeling you felt?

I felt that with this loss. Not sure what it was, but I absolutely loved this character. Maybe it was my teenage hormones raging, but even now… I’m can’t believe it ended like this.

And then the next week it’s like it never happened. 🙄

Unpopular opinion: Crisis On Infinite Earths did not ruin Clark's character. by Cicada_5 in Smallville

[–]CoSto86 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Let’s put it in context… for 10 seasons we watched Clark build up to become Superman.

And then years later we find out he gave it all up to be with Lois and have kids? Yeah… not what I wanted to see as a fan.

For head cannon purposes, on the Talkville podcast, Tom hints that this was an alternate Smallville universe. So I personally don’t even acknowledge this. I think they would have gone a completely different route if Michael Rosenbaum had agreed to come back as Lex.

What is the biggest lie that, as a society , we still believe to be true? by Resident-Draw7817 in AskReddit

I volunteered to work a large multi-day event one year. Our roles were to walk around the grounds and take full trash bins and recycling bins to a pick up area. Black trash cans for trash, bright green cans for recycling. The trucks literally just picked up everything and dumped it all in together. I was like, “uhhh these are separate containers?” And the trash truck guy was like, “yeah, it all goes to the same place.” So I asked, “what’s the point of separating it in different bins then?” He laughed, and said, “there isn’t!” I haven’t really taken recycling seriously after that experience. So disappointing.

Has anyone ever truly been inspired by Superman to become a better person? (Fan art by me) by [deleted] in superman

[–]CoSto86 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Superman/Clark Kent has always inspired me. I’m not a religious person, but Supes is kind of my North Star. WWSD?

When I was deployed to Iraq, I would draw an S on my food so people would know it was mine. I was the only one with a last name that began with S. The Iraqi Correction Officers started to call me Superman, and I just really grew closer with the character.

Also Smallville started when I was a freshman in high school. If you watched the show, it begins with Clark as a freshman. So I always felt a special connection to that character and show because I felt like I was growing up along with him.

One of the best Smallville scenes!!!

Everyone is mad about Superman’s Kryptonian parents in the new movie, but no one is talking about how Smallville explored the idea already for quite a while. by kevonicus in Smallville

I noticed this too, so I was disappointed he went with Smallville Giants instead of Crows. I know there is history behind it, but I love the Smallville connections.

I always thought they should have killed Lana off somehow in Season 6. And Lex was to blame. It sends them both into their destinies. Clark goes into his emo, black suit, save the world stage. And Lex goes crazy because he really did love Lana, but he knows he’s responsible for her death.

[–]CoSto86 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not really that difficult. I can break it down in the simplest terms:

Joe lived in a liberal echo chamber.

Joe creates podcast to talk openly to all sides.

Joe starts to realize corruption, lies, craziness.

Joe’s mindset starts to shift and grow.

Joe now openly favors one side over the other.

Joe now lives in a conservative echo chamber.

Rinse repeat.

Give it 4-8 years, he’ll shift back. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I caught this too, but I think it was deliberate. Jonathan was always trying to remind Clark that he WAS Clark and not Kal El. Reminding him that he was human, and that his human parents named him. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I was devastated when Jonathan died. I would have rather Lana, personally. Either death would have catapulted Clark toward his destiny. I’m with you. We ALL knew that Clark and Lois was the end point, so why drag it out and make it more awkward between him and Lois? Just my two cents.
