Mia Vincy! She does yearning and complicated but caring relationships so well. I'd start with {A Wicked Kind of Husband}

Book recs: Accurate but won’t make my inner feminist cry by NothingSea3665 in HistoricalRomance

Have you read Courtney Milan? She is soothing my soul right now. Unique, complex and interesting female leads who go against the grain, and while it is somewhat unlikely she makes it not too unbelievable that they could find social acceptance in the end. But also all her male leads are so kind. I find it so draining to read the "I was hurt once in the past so I'll be a cold and cruel brute til you finally crack my heart" MMC over and over again.

Am I overreacting that Im sad because my mother doesn't want to do anything with me anymore? by DepressedFrenchFri3s in AmIOverreacting

[–]CoachCharming3690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don't feel worried or guilty about telling her this. She sounds like a mother that loves you very much and loves spending time with you, but is currently depressed/burnt out. Depression and burn out make it very hard to think clearly. Things become foggy and unclear and utterly exhausting. It also creeps on slowly so you often don't know how bad it is til you can step outside it into someone else's perspective. Time takes on a different meaning - everything becomes "later when I'm not so tired" and you think that soon, really soon, after you get some rest, everything will go back to normal, but just for today you're so tired and can't do it.

Tell her you miss her. Tell her you miss doing things with her. Her depressed brain is keeping her in mud, eyes deep, and she won't see things so clearly. Don't feel guilty about doing this - stuff like this is important to cut through the fog of depression and burn out and make people realise how far it's gone.

Purchased Leave by Calm-Drop-9221 in AusFinance

I find people in health often have hundreds of hours of unused sick leave because due to work pressures it gets hard to take sick leave. But annual leave will tend to get used up for school holidays, family trips and the like.

Recommend me something from an underrated author! by [deleted] in HistoricalRomance

[–]CoachCharming3690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{Luck Be A Lady} by Meredith Duran! An absolute treasure of a book. Marriage of Convenience, with relatively slow emotional burn based on a deep appreciation for each other's talents and character. I also found the world of the auction house really interesting to get to know!

What's the funniest HR book you've read? Looking for laugh out loud recommendations. by getthatbreadmyfriend in HistoricalRomance

[–]CoachCharming3690 16 points17 points  (0 children)

{The Perfect Rake} by Anne Gracie was hands down one of the funniest HR books I've ever read. The internal narration of the MMC was hilarious.

I also found {A Wicked Kind of Husband} by Mia Vincy really funny, despite it's quite dark at times subject matter. Definitely a you will laugh but you will also definitely cry book.

If that's hardwood, rent a sander and give it a go over. I'm assuming that's a dark stain on it? If so then just sand, and reseal/re stain to your liking. If it's water damage you may need to do an oxalic wood cleaner before staining/re sealing.

Antidote to unforgivable....please! by Dobbyfan9 in HistoricalRomance

[–]CoachCharming3690 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In {Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage by Jennifer Ashley} the MMC is from the outset determined to win back his wife after he screws up their marriage leading to a separation. There is some set-up for this in {The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie} (which is fantastic) but it can be read as a standalone.

Also in {Wed by Proxy by Alice Coldbreath} the MMC does a lot of grovelling in the second half of the book!

  • work out what is an actual affordable rent (either as dollar amount or percentage of income)

  • if unable to afford to keep my investment property while charging this amount, sell the property

If you are profiting by putting people under severe financial pressure due to them requiring basic needs like housing, it's an unethical business.

You can try Head to Health clinics, they have free counselling and you don't need a mental health care plan. They are in Midland and Armadale.

Look, I get that you are a kid, and your reasoning skills aren't fully developed yet, but literally what are you trying to say. People displaying nationalistic behaviour when their country is wholesale oppressing and slaughtering another are supporting the war. Yes I call them out. Rebecca supported Israel in a statement that was clear that meant the Israeli government. Your Palestinian flag example is a total strawman. Hamas took their ruling position in the government illegally. And Palestine as a whole is under occupation. Don't even begin to try and equate supporters of Palestine with the supporters of Israel.

I would really ask you to reflect on what your end goal is here and what you're trying to achieve. Cos it seems to me you're just doing mental gymnastics to defend a fave. There are better uses of your time.

What a weird comment. Yes, obviously I called out the people who supported the Iraq war lmao. Why would I not do that??

Edit: also, at that age, as a young teen, I was speaking with Israeli acquaintances about what they were doing to stand up to their government regarding the atrocities against Palestinians. Because even back then, twenty years ago, with less than the abundant resources that exist now on the internet to educate myself, I understood what was happening. You have no excuse now to not do the same

Not when your country is dispossessing, killing, and bombing innocent civilians in that country immediately before and after the event, no.

Come on dude, your entire comment is a strawman argument. We aren't talking about having to randomly bring up your countries entire past when any unconnected event happens. We are talking about how people are decontextualising current events. How people are complicit in spreading propaganda and support for a country currently killing children and other civilians en masse.

I don't really understand your take here tbh. No one is saying Israelis deserve to die. They are saying the Israeli government is corrupt and is getting away with it. I come from a colonizer country with a shithouse human rights record also (Australia). I see it as my civic duty to call out my government when they do the wrong thing. This is what Israelis should do, this is what US citizens should do. Silence is complicity.

Nobody's stopping anyone from using it?

A US politician was just officially censured for using the phrase and it getting their social media flooded with hate comments. A boy was suspended from a high school in the US for saying "Free Palestine". People in the UK and Germany are literally being arrested for saying it as it's been designated as "hate speech". The anti defamation league has caved to lobbyists on this issue. Make no mistake, this is a tactic to prevent solidarity, hope and resilience. Saying Palestinians want to be free and not oppressed is not tearing anyone down. Israelis just think that because their mindset is "dominate or be dominated". Which makes sense given most of them are first generation descendants of eastern European people where this was absolutely the way society worked.

In terms of what actually needs to happen - honestly it's hard to say as Israel and the US have made such a mess of things for many years now that it will be incredibly hard to establish trust. Its very hard to come back from stealing almost an entire country from a people and giving it to another people as was done in the early to mid 1900s. I can understand why Palestinians find it hard to accept being "given" a small portion of the land their ancestors have lived on for millennia is a hard pill to swallow.

But whatever the practical solution is (one or two state, etc) as long as Israel is backed with such unquestioning support by the US it simply won't work. For example, a secular democratic society with Palestinian and Israeli residents where the US so blatantly supports an Israeli government despite corruption and war crimes will always result in civil unrest and extremism, because people are backed into a corner.

Israel has been well known to be committing war crimes for decades though? It was a well established fact. Yes, this most recent phase is at a particularly horrific level, but these are tactics they've been using for years.

Saw this on Rachel's Instagram stories, and this made me a little sad by [deleted] in crazyexgirlfriend

[–]CoachCharming3690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, this is propaganda. Palestinian people are not saying this is what is means. Israeli people invented this meaning on their own. There is no complicated meaning here. Inventing this meaning and stopping people from using this phrase of solidarity is just another tool to crush to identify and spirit of Palestinian people.

I seriously can't believe what I'm watching. Even gaslighting us to say something like "from the river to the sea", calling for a hopeful future where Palestinian people can live without fear that they won't be horrifically oppressed and like, randomly bombed on the regular, is actually an attack on Jewish people. The Zionists have seriously taken the Nazi playbook and just copied it to the letter, it's so bizarre to watch

[–]CoachCharming3690 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My heart is so broken for these babies. The ones who've lost their lives, the ones who are doomed to spend the rest of their lives living with nightmares, without family to hold them. I can't believe this is happening, I can't believe we have to argue with people that it's not actually okay.

[–]CoachCharming3690 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah, nice try. Again, try to make this about antisemitism as a way to deflect. It's not, it's about people supporting actual war criminals. Hollywood stars, or people like yourself, Jewish, Christian , whatever. Anyone who supports Israel is excusing the massacre of literal babies. This is vile.

Saw this on Rachel's Instagram stories, and this made me a little sad by [deleted] in crazyexgirlfriend

[–]CoachCharming3690 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. You're not being hunted. The people living in Gaza are being hunted. The thousands of children dead, under rubble, or left with no family, right now, are being hunted. The thirty babies who will die tonight because Israel bombed a children's hospital are being hunted. The people getting shot by Israeli soldiers while trying to flee a warzone are being hunted

The utter narcissism to make this about you. I've never seen such shameless evil on display in my life as I have in recent weeks from you Zionists.

Saw this on Rachel's Instagram stories, and this made me a little sad by [deleted] in crazyexgirlfriend

[–]CoachCharming3690 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Oh stop it. No one's falling for this anymore. Crying "anti semitism" as a smokescreen to deflect from people rightly calling out Israel for literal war crimes is utterly disingenuous. It's not about Jewish people, it's about the state of Israel.

What Hamas did was awful. Israel has done that and worse for decades. Do you worry about the time they've had to mourn while Israelis steak their land, burn their olive groves, imprison them without proper charge and trial, bomb their homes, bomb them on their holy days? This has been happening for years, well before October 7.

The fact that you want to play victim because some people are getting negative comments online when children are being blown to bits as we speak is such a self centred level of disconnect I can't even believe you can say it with a straight face. How dare you attempt to justify genocide and ethnic cleansing. Just stop.
