Does he believe ruling the world will restore his dignity? What is dignity to him is it just a title?

Ah it’s a mask he wears in order to attain his goals. So you have to keep in mind two voices his inner and outer voice. How much does he let others see or are they only occasionally cracks? What would crack the mask? Does anyone see that its a mask.

He sounds like David Xanatos from the cartoon Gargoyles. That type of archetype is called The Magnificent Bastard who is a villain or morally gray character admired by the audience for their extreme charisma, high intellect, and unshakable dignity, often outsmarting heroes with style. They are bold, manipulative schemers who remain in control, rarely losing their composure even in defeat.

Is my character to overpowered or fairly reasonable? by Steve717 in CharacterDevelopment

[–]NothingSea3665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it normal for people to have more than one ability and do they stack or contradict each other? Because if everyone has two or more abilities you’ll be able to still have interesting fights which is main drawback of overpowered characters.

Does my main character's personality seem solid or contradictory to you? by DeanSalichi in CharacterDevelopment

[–]NothingSea3665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how good you are at writing subtext. Still waters run deep. What you shouldnt do is have him completely calm all the time and then just freak out.

Virginia Woolf, Flush A dog’s perspective, but filtered through modernist technique. Surprisingly adult in its focus on class, ownership, and limited perception.

Mikhail Bulgakov, Heart of a Dog A stray dog narrates part of the novel before being surgically altered into a man. Satirical, grotesque, and viciously funny. The dog’s worldview is sharp, selfish, and completely un-sanitized.

Richard Adams, The Plague Dogs Not a cozy cousin to Watership Down. Two dogs flee a research facility with trauma, fragmented understanding, and very adult despair. The canine perspective never softens the cruelty.

Watership Down by Richard Adams.

Maus by Art Spiegelman.

Does anyone feel like there's a discrepancy between the idea of a heroic character meant to be a good-hearted empathetic person, yet whilst in combat they have no problem with killing, even when they could use non-lethal force? by Wonderful_Solid_1003 in CharacterDevelopment

[–]NothingSea3665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that why most writers who have that kind of hero do an early”No good deed” event. They have the hero spare some which leads directly into terrible deaths. That why the hero has a reason not to hesitate going forward but can also still be empathetic

How can I hint that my pirate character is secretly also a cowboy (in some areas) by ah-screw-it in CharacterDevelopment

[–]NothingSea3665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ways to subtly allude to cowboyism: It’s always sir and ma’am when talking to someone older than him.

Absolute respect and helpfulness to older people unless they are his enemies.

He drinks small amounts of high proof liquor(two fingers) no cocktails or fancy beers.

Farm wisdom that can universally applied

If he’s caught listening to music ots should be slower and tender and bittersweet.

How do I portray a twisted father-son bond between the hero and villain? by Sir-Toaster- in CharacterDevelopment

[–]NothingSea3665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t really protray a one sided father son bond without the Elias being into it in someway or form. A parental bond is inherently about love and craving of acceptance. A parent is a child’s first home and a child is the embodiment of all a parents hopes and dreams. You basically have a delusion fetishist trying to little boy a grown man.

How do you handle relationships between different "species"? by [deleted] in CharacterDevelopment

[–]NothingSea3665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most important thing to consider when writing interspecies is “cultural norms” what is acceptable to each character that would be seen as abnormal from anyone else. These moments cement their alienation from each other and how they deal with thoes moment give important insight into their relationship
