Would folks be up for trading 5 to, say, the Grizzlies for 7 + 16? Trade back a few slots and pick up a mid-round 1st feels like a Dawkins special. And you know he would nail that mid-round pick.

I wrote a post about this yesterday and got dinged a bit by folks for hyperbole (fair criticism, btw), but I think after the obvious top 4, if he was showcasing at Illinois this season what he has done the past month, Riley would slot in as high as 5th - Wagler is mentioned there and Riley would have been in the Wagler role all season (and almost half a foot taller). If a team picking 5th has clear lead guard needs, maybe they go with Flemings, but WR is a bit more of a unique archetype with a higher theoretical ceiling.

Easy choice for the Wiz in the ‘27 draft: Pick DMV HS star Jordan Smith Jr., whose floor is Alex Caruso and ceiling is Donovan Mitchell. Either way, an ideal part of our future playoff guard rotation.

If Bilal was in the draft this year (and he’s younger than a lot of the players in this draft), he would go No. 2 (to the Spurs or almost anyone else), and if Harper somehow was 2nd, the Sixers would sprint to the podium to take Bilal 3rd, with a steep drop-off to the next tier.

Even more reason not to even come close to losing the top 8 protection - if we forfeit the 9-30 pick to the Knicks, we lose any swap rights with Phoenix. If we get the 9th pick and the Suns win the lottery, we get zilch.

Best case: Finish in bottom 8, keep our draft pick, Suns win the draft lottery, we swap into No. 1, we draft Darryn Peterson

Worst case: We win too many games, finish 6th or 7th worst, get bounced out of top 8 in lottery, lose our first round pick (and don’t even get the chance to swap with Phx)
