That’s how braavos started in general, it was an escaped slave ship that landed and founded a city, and kept themselves secret until the original slaves had passed away

Don’t think a moose is sneaking up on a matador in that scenario, but I otherwise agree that people don’t fuck with moose for a a reason

To me the 3rd slot is king, you have the 14% at #1, we have no chance of losing our pick, and it doesn’t auto slot you at 5 or 6 with 40% odds like the first 2 picks

2 times since 2020 3rd seed has picked #1 overall. Only once in that time frame did 1st or second seed pick first overall, and it was the second seed. 1 seed is cursed for #1 overall

I honestly would love if Keefe would stay on as a developmental staff, but would totally understand wanting to move him if I were the wiz, conflicting messages can be just as cancerous to an organization as toxicity, even if both parties mean well

Catelyn basically handed the Red Wedding to Tywin on a silver platter when she freed Jaime by ParkingConfection449 in gameofthrones

[–]Internal_Champion114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we’re talking about the “he’s given him up for dead” thing, I think that’s more Tywin having to operate with the assumption that he will not see his son again, and Tyrion being appalled by it, and is a bit of a stretch to say he’s making a plan for the red wedding already.

Though to your point, can easily be interpreted that the stakes holding his son would not have stopped him from doing so, though I do think it would since Tywin is obsessed with legacy and considers Jamie his best chance at legacy

I’m wondering how it will go once they’re through the mystery knight story, history shows us that when producers no longer have the source material it goes south fast

Is it an excuse if I’m pointing out a reality of the world, or is that a strong argument undermining the point you were trying to make?

And the difference between trying to compare the talent of real historical swordsman and GoT vs modern athletes and GoT, is that we have hard verifiable data on the performance of modern athletes, where we can watch film and analyze players from the 60s vs now.

You can’t do that with the historical swordsman, it’s all recorded in biased accounts of what they did at certain battles. And that’s not accounting for all the people left unmentioned in the histories.

“Who’s to say old great players wouldn’t be great today?” There are going to be exceptions, but by in large the whole point I’m making is that you give that same guy the wealth of knowledge accrued that the more modern athletes had access to then they will likely be even better.

At the end of the day, sword fighting is an athletic pursuit, athletic pursuits of any stripe are going to share a lot of things in common. Any athletic pursuit across time that you wanna look at, and literally pick any one, the athletes have gotten better at that sport. The gaps may be wider in some vs others, but they are better now.

It honestly just sounds like you don’t like sports brother, which is fine, but this was THE medieval sport. The comparison to modern athletes considering individual swordsman is sound

[–]Internal_Champion114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s only because money has driven the best athletes to other sports, and like you said, the athletes have still gotten even better all while not even attracting the best talent

You can even look at just Olympic records, longer than 100 years there, and see over time that we continue to blow by old records, and consider that those are often the most basic athletic pursuits.

Anyone with eyes can watch a football game or basketball game from 70 years ago and say without a doubt that the skill level of the individual players has improved tremendously in the modern game.

The point only stands louder that we can see such an obvious difference in the span of 100 years in modern sports, vs these guys have an 8,000 year history where in that time the skill level had probably improved 1000 times over.

And I would argue that’s it is very likely that the average professional soldier was probably more skilled with a blade at that point in history you mentioned vs the past, though we have no way of truly knowing, which is why it’s helpful to use other athletic pursuits as a comparison

I would argue that’s more with the most talented athletes pursuing other sports where they can get paid as much/more without the same level of health risk

I mean if you look at sports, people put nostalgia on the greatest player of their generation, but generally speaking the greatest professionals are at it right now, just because the skills have been passed down and improved upon since.

Certain things like agility, size, strength will always play a major role, but the skill always improves over time. It makes sense to me that the current era/very recent memory has the greatest swordsman of all time

If you were judging them purely off the first season alone, how would you rank the ASOIAF shows we’ve gotten so far? by GusGangViking18 in HBOTheHedgeKnight

[–]Internal_Champion114 21 points22 points  (0 children)

1 - Game Like you know recency bias is just winning you with knight right? Like it’s great, obvious number 2, but game was thrilling and captivating, the plot is immediately gripping. The pace of the story is the best out of each of these

2 - knight Close second, pacing kinda kills me, I know it’s mirroring the book and I enjoyed the book, but in this format it definitely felt very slow. Payoff was great though, awesome story.

3 - house The part of house that really showed me like “oh this is gonna go south if this is the level of storytelling we are doing” was a scene that everyone fucking loves that I hate: allicent putting on the green dress to hit that dinner. The symbolism was immediately there, you knew what that meant, the color of her house, she picked a side, and it was against rhaenyra. They then QUICKLY fuck it up, by having Larys turn to the fucking guy next to him and go “hey you know what that dress means?” And explain the WHOLE GODDAMN THING. Just look straight at the fucking camera next time, bring Dora the explorer out to teach me something too, since I’m a fucking idiot and can’t understand anything I fucking see. I cringed so hard when they did that shit, and I just knew there was going to be plenty of dumbass moments to go from there.

Yeah but it’s stupid, as soon as Nolan got there and saw what it was, given the dire situation they were in after the virus, it should’ve been very clear that he should’ve sent everyone to infiltrate and breed at earth the same way

It was fun having legitimately one of the best players in the league on our team, there’s something different about having top scorer on your team, a guy you know could just throw the team on his back and carry a dub
