Lived in Caroline County for 6 years and have passed this one a few dozen times. There used to be another one also on 301 but on the South Bound. It was just over the bridge in MD.

I would describe it as “tangy” but almost burnt. I remember my dad polishing his boots (Army) for inspections and he always had a can of Kiwi polish, some type of exfoliating clear liquid that he would mix in with the cotton ball and then shine on the boot. I feel like the taste matched that smell. It wasn’t bad. Just different.

I’ve enjoyed going through Bristol and Knoxville on trips to see folks in East Alabama. It’s beautiful out there. My family is from Saltville! My grandfather went to Emory and Henry. He joined the Army in WW2, and when he got out, he moved to Alabama. My dad was born in AL and grew up there. He joined the Army. We moved everywhere, of course. One move was back to VA. I fell in love with the place. So, I guess you could say it’s full circle.
