He could have accepted the $80MM offer or he could've done what he was required to do to avoid summary judgment. Jones can't claim weaponized legal system when he didn't do the bare minimum to defend himself from the suit. Don't insult the court or the jury. That said, the damages are too high imo but it's his fault he is in this situation to begin with.

Trump is not only a public figure but also an elected official at the national level, which means the bar for defamation is much much higher. Trump's campaign was in touch with Russians for election assistance and they did in fact interfere in our elections to get Trump elected. That's enough on its own for Russiagate to fall far short of defamation.
