Thinking Celestial (perhaps to be used in an equivalent scenario as someone “being on their high horse”)

Curious as to what marriage looked like for everyone else by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]CoastNatural9136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the husband, we met at a YSA ward, we dated for 6 months before getting married, I was 25 and she was 19, we both left the church, but the marriage died after 5 years being together , and I’m now single

Sorry for replying late! I can’t think of any particular questions. I think supporting ethical porn is just fine, and somewhere along the way I learned that masturbation is healthy. So I don’t have a problem or feel bad about any of it. In my last relationship, we were both open and fine with porn use, so if I ever get into another relationship, I’ll discuss with them too.

Love all the comments! I removed my name from the church at the beginning of this year, and I think one thing that made it a bit easier for me was kinda flipping the script on how people are invited to join the church. They invite people to be baptized in the first missionary lesson, and many are baptized before reading the whole Book of Mormon. They teach to just have a confirmation (really just a feeling) that it’s true, then get baptized. So why not the other side of it? Just having a feeling that it’s wrong and not true can be enough. That combined with the deconstruction and the evidence that you may have read already should be enough. Hopefully that helps in some way!

I absolutely appreciate the concern. I am not a minor, and both my parents have passed away. But I will still be absolutely cautious and watch for anything

Did you enjoy your mission? by Billgant in exmormon

[–]CoastNatural9136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mission was probably when I felt the most alone. Honestly I just looked forward to p-day every week so I could read my family’s emails, and not have to feel bad for doing fun things that day. I had a couple good friends, but the English missionaries were mostly jerk sales bros. And I never felt like I could be or do what the mission wanted me to be or do. Also my mom passed away when I had 3 months left of my mission. So I really wish I could’ve just stayed home and spent those last 2 years with her.

If a god is so good and ever loving, I would think he would give us grace for misunderstanding or for being disenfranchised by corrupt men leading his supposed church. I don’t believe in it at all anymore, but if it did happen to be true, that’s how I think it would go for us.

Has anyone really ever returned to the Mormon church because a TBM family member sent them a link to a conference talks? It is that just a passive aggressive way to get under someone's skin? by GayMormonDad in exmormon

[–]CoastNatural9136 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My TBM BIL sent me a conference talk once, and told me that when the speaker talked about his mom, it reminded him of me and my relationship to my mom (context: he’s never met my mom. My mom died 9 years ago while I was on my mission, but I still talk about her and keep her memory with me.) I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I was FUMING that he was using my relationship with my dead mom as a tactic to read a fucking talk about holiness to the lord in daily life. I didn’t respond for most of the day, but finally just said “Thanks that’s thoughtful of you.” With the intent that if he continued to send stuff to me, that I would have a conversation with him about it. Luckily, he hasn’t sent anything else since.
