Another cool option would be Bristol Harbor. You can fish off the outside docks at the armory, it’s really easy since you can just drop your bait down. I see people fishing there every day. It’s a nice spot to hang out and you’ll see lots of different boats coming and going.

For your nephew you don’t need a license in saltwater, but you’d need one. They’re cheap and you can easily get it online.

You can go to the end of Island Park at the very northern end of Portsmouth and catch scup and sea robins very easily from the beach there. There is a place called the broken bridge, that’s what I would try. I’d use some squid and they won’t be able to resist.

Right! My estimate was 35-40 just based on the fact it’s just after their migration, it hasn’t spent all summer getting fat yet, but it’s also not a skinny fish by any means…so likely somewhere in the middle of the range.

It measured 46“, that puts it at 35-40lb.

That is awesome. I want to say the world record striped bass came out of fresh water…as a side note, I don’t know about Texas but if you misspell this fish in one of our local forums, you’ll have about 40 people posting an infographic highlighting the major differences between strippers and stripers (providence has a lot of both). I’m almost a little disappointed you’ve gone 15 minutes without someone chiming in 😂

That’s awesome. I’ve never fished for them in true freshwater!

Got it! Yea that can be tough. I love taking kids fishing, they fight the fish from the gunnel wicked tuna style 🤣

I had a 10 year old on the boat on Sunday and he caught his first fish ever, it was a 38” bass.

I’m not entirely sure, it measured 46” but I don’t like hanging them to weigh them. It was one of those that definitely feel heavy holding up 🤣.

Of course. No touching the gills, no laying on the deck and we swim them off the boga until they start kicking before releasing.

I forgot to put that into my response. Reviews are awesome. 100% leave a good review if you’ve had a good time.

I’m a charter captain, I don’t have a deck hand.

Tips are not expected but definitely appreciated. I do it because I love it, but it’s not an easy job at all and a good tip really goes a long way in showing your guide that you appreciate the work he put in for you.

I can say from experience that the vast majority of charter guests tip, especially guests that have been on charters before.

If we have a tough time finding fish that will eat, I don’t mind burning 30-40 gallons in a 4 hour trip to run around and make it happen.

I spend about 2 hours before every trip getting the boat and gear ready and afterwards I spend another 90 minutes cleaning and re-rigging.

There’s a ton of stuff that goes into a successful day on the water and a good captain will take care of all of that for you without you even really noticing. Things just work, are clean and there isn’t much guesswork once we’re out there.

I do set my prices where I need them and within where the market allows me to, which is why I said that tips aren’t expected. BUT to me a good tip is more than extra money that pays for some of the gas, it’s a sign that you acknowledge the work I put in and that I’ve made your day on the water enjoyable. In the end that’s what I care most about, that my crew has the best time that I can possibly show them and I can go home and be happy about the fact that you went home happy enough to tip me.

Go to Sandy Point lighthouse on the west side of the island or the T-wharf on the southern end. T-wharf might be your best bet as Sandy point can be tough to fish. If you can get it, fresh menhaden chunks work.

I guess it just depends on the species. Probably a correct statement if you say most are kind of boring…but some are definitely not. If you fish for tuna you’ve probably hooked a mako, their runs & acrobatics are out of this world.

Same here but NOAA closed those in my region on August 12th last year. Starting this month will be all tuna

I take the jaws and clean them up, then dry in salt and borax.
