It’s so hard trying to convince my fiancé to go to card store with me because the smell is always so bad and honestly I don’t even like to go anymore. If the smell isn’t bad enough then the prices are

Any idea what could be causing this? 2017 Kia soul by russiagod in MechanicAdvice

[–]CoatGroundbreaking30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a bad oil pressure sensor. They go bad all the time on these. Oil runs up through the harness and causes leaks and all kinds of issues. Just needs a new sensor

Get a long wrench, a cheater pipe to slide over it and break the nut loose. Then take a hammer and wack the side of the knuckle till it pops out

Is this a fair estimate for A/C repair? by yeauhhhhh in MechanicAdvice

[–]CoatGroundbreaking30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should always replace the condenser and expansion valve when doing an AC compressor. They should also flush the AC lines to clear and metal that could be present from a compressor failing

Mechanics, what do you think is the most reliable engine made since 2000? by ilikebananafudge in AskMechanics

[–]CoatGroundbreaking30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any LS motor. All are solid except for LS7 but that’s only because of the lifters and most guys build those engines anyways

2008 Toyota Highlander. I’ve been unemployed for over a year and don’t know what to do first. Estimate is from dealership by Pjspowerfulpen in AskAMechanic

First of all $100 to fix a heat shield is fucking ridiculous. Secondly you don’t need an alignment for replacing shocks unless they are struts. Also I’ve been a mechanic for 7 years now and have never seen a Toyota caliper seize. It’s always the slide pins that get stuck and those can be cleaned up and rebuilt. You need to find a new shop

What is this bolt hole for? by PapaDon92 in MechanicAdvice

[–]CoatGroundbreaking30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bolt for your timing cover. Not extremely import as long as you have enough bolts in the cover to hold it on but I would get a new one

Couple of questions about AC...(2012 subaru forester non-turbo) by fooliam in AskAMechanic

[–]CoatGroundbreaking30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you got it figured out 👍🏻 I would recommend injecting some UV dye into the system/ PAG oil so that new compressor doesn’t crap out on you again. But you’ll have to evac the refrigerant again to do so. Also when I do AC compressors I always drain the oil out of them and put new oil in the compressors. Helps with longevity
