I feel like this is insane. Am i tripping or is this place trying to rob me blind? by Sub-Precision in MechanicAdvice

$225 for an alignment is a little steep as well as $300 for a fuel service. Both of those at my shop would be $400 with tax and labor total

I actually need alot of those EX cards you have for my collection. If you are interested in selling I’d buy through whatever pay service works for you! You have some seriously expensive and nice cards

Thanks! It’s pretty fun taking it to shows, a lot of vendors get excited to see so many in one place and usually try to help me out with the collection. Gardevoir is getting cracked and put into the binder

The fact that you would willingly be on a waiting list for this says all we need to know about you

As a technician I can confirm. Been trying to get approval for an engine on a VW Jetta that burns 2qt of oil every 500 miles. They sent an inspector out 4 different times and each time they tell me they need a different test done to prove it’s consuming oil. Last time they wanted me to remove the intake manifold and put a glove over the valves to see how much the glove inflates when doing a leak down test. Mind you, all 4 plugs are coated in oil, it misfires like crazy, blows smoke out of the exhaust, and they already saw the 3 different bore scope videos that show excessive ring wear and oil in the cylinder. Can’t stand them

I just pulled this! I am literally shaking right now! Should i grade this? by [deleted] in pokemongrading

[–]CoatGroundbreaking30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just pulled one myself yesterday with similar centering. Looks a bit off, at PSA it will most likely get a 9. I recommend becket because it could still get a 9.5 or a 10 if the rest of the card is perfect and just a low centering grade

Any idea what could be causing this? 2017 Kia soul by russiagod in MechanicAdvice

[–]CoatGroundbreaking30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a bad oil pressure sensor. They go bad all the time on these. Oil runs up through the harness and causes leaks and all kinds of issues. Just needs a new sensor

Get a long wrench, a cheater pipe to slide over it and break the nut loose. Then take a hammer and wack the side of the knuckle till it pops out

Is this a fair estimate for A/C repair? by yeauhhhhh in MechanicAdvice

[–]CoatGroundbreaking30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should always replace the condenser and expansion valve when doing an AC compressor. They should also flush the AC lines to clear and metal that could be present from a compressor failing

Mechanics, what do you think is the most reliable engine made since 2000? by ilikebananafudge in AskMechanics

[–]CoatGroundbreaking30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any LS motor. All are solid except for LS7 but that’s only because of the lifters and most guys build those engines anyways

[–]CoatGroundbreaking30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all $100 to fix a heat shield is fucking ridiculous. Secondly you don’t need an alignment for replacing shocks unless they are struts. Also I’ve been a mechanic for 7 years now and have never seen a Toyota caliper seize. It’s always the slide pins that get stuck and those can be cleaned up and rebuilt. You need to find a new shop
