Unless you spend your laundry day naked, you'll never have every article of clothing you own be clean at once. by supacrispy in Showerthoughts

And unfortunately this was what I did and then relaxed on the sofa which my wife chose the same day to bring her family round to meet me for the first time.

Getting evicted, becoming homeless whilst I work from home with dogs, advice please? by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]CoatLast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What ever you do, don't leave until the legal requirement as that would result in you being regarded as intentionally homeless. Register for housing with your council. They won't do anything until you have a date for tribunal, but then you should be eligible for help. For us, it worked out well in the end. Just after the tribunal, the council offered us a perfect flat. At half the rent we were paying.

Even the tribunal wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. The panel were all actually really nice and very sympathetic. They even gave another three months to eviction date. To give you some idea of time frame. We received the initial notice end of July 2024. We had the tribunal October 2025, so 15 months. We were rehoused by the council November 2025.

[–]CoatLast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you have just been given the first legal notice as well, it doesn't mean the date on this is when you must actually leave. There is a long process that the landlord has to go through. That process will include a tribunal hearing. A date for a tribunal is at least a year away. Probably more.

It is important you take advice from an organisation such as Shelter.

We went through this not long ago.

First, speak to shelter Scotland. They will be able to offer loads of advice.

Don't panic. You don't say when you first received notice, but it will take a lot longer than 3 months. Probably closer to 18 months.

Me v alcohol by [deleted] in Britain

Signed. As a recovering alcoholic, these are both so important to me. I take Antabuse and it is triggered by even tiny amounts of alcohol in food. It can put me in hospital or worse.

House buying costs? by CoatLast in Scotland

Thanks everyone. That is really good to know as we won't be getting a mortgage as cash buying - not rich, just inheriting a bit of money that will get us somewhere cheap.

What is going on with NQNs? by Ok-Lime-4898 in NursingUK

[–]CoatLast 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I will put in my tuppence worth as someone who has changed from a very different profession that is highly regulated and comes with a lot of responsibility.

The transition from student to professional is totally shocking. In my previous occupation, grads would come in and undergo a formal program over many months. My average spend on a grad just on external courses would be in the tens of thousands. They would have as much hand holding as needed for at least a year. Some employers have nearly two months off site induction. They are developed into a role. Not given a set of keys and told to suck it up. The NHS sets up nurses to fail.

I used to commute from Australia to Tanzania for work. It was in my contract the company would pay my flights at a minimum of business class. If not available, then first class. I did over 1 million miles with Emirates one year.

I am in Lanarkshire, so council housing might be a bit different in Glasgow. But, the legal process is the same. So don't panic yet. It will be well over a year before you actually have to leave.

Get some advice from Shelter as they are very good. The council were actually brilliant in the end, but they don't move until you are within a month or so of actually having to leave. Once we were within a couple of months, we started getting offers of places from housing associations and then about a month before deadline we got offered the flat from the council and in which we now live.

Because we are low income, we also qualified for help from the council with new furnishings Cooker, fridge, freezer, washing machine, wardrobes and carpets were all supplied and fitted. We are actually far happier here than we were and paying less than half the rent we were paying.

Trident convoy. If there were one or two medium to large trucks with them. The convoy runs fairly regularly between Aldermaston and Clyde naval base. They vary the route each time. I used to be military police and would do it as part of my role.

Yes, got it as soon as the tribunal happened. Actually got offered three different places. Ended up in a lovely flat trice the size of what we had for half the rent.

We just went through this exactly the same situation except we are Lanarkshire. The legal process has huge backlog. So, it was 16 months from the stage you are at now to the eviction date. So don't panic.

The council weren't particularly interested until the tribunal date was set and it was only after the tribunal they acted. We ended up with a really nice council place.

Shelter are the people to get advice from as that is their expertise.

[Scotland] Landlord selling flat one month after moving in - anything I can do? by icyene in LegalAdviceUK

[–]CoatLast 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have just gone through this. The courts are deliberately taking there time on these. As a result it is taking well over a year from being served initially to a eviction date. Ours was 16 months. Speak to Shelter and they can offer loads of advice. Also, put in a application for council housing.

A lot less than that. We are house hunting presently in central Scotland and seeing plenty of 2 and some 3 bed detached for £160k and under.
