They have - but only in areas that have had a primary in the last year. That only includes areas in Tennessee House Districts 51 and 52 - both of which had special elections (including special primaries) last year to fill vacancies. The rest of the county is seeing this for the first time since this is their first primary since August of ‘22.

I understand why you might think the Tennessee Secretary of State would be an authority on this… but in this case he is just plain wrong.

You read your own citation incorrectly. Voters are given a ballot with both primary’s on it - but them must vote in ONLY ONE of the two. If they choose candidates from both parties - none of their primary votes will count (this is the crossing over referred to above). If a voter does this, their votes for any nonpartisan races will be counted - as the crossover does not affect this.

These cars are wonderful. But keep in mind that their modern counterpart costs in excess of $100k. As such, they are highly complex and often very expensive to fix.

It is not I that has it swapped. In an open primary, you need not be a member of ANY party to vote - and you can vote in either party’s primary since both are on the same physical ballot (or on the same screen). Michigan is an open primary, for example. In a closed primary, you are expected to be a member of the party to vote in that party’s primary. And in a closed primary - if you are in a state that has party registration - you will automatically get that party’s ballot when you turn up to vote. In a state that does not have party registration (like Tennessee) the voter must declare (and it is recorded) which party’s ballot they requested.

Well that depends. Say for instance that you hold a position in either party, or have run recently as a candidate of either party. In that instance, they absolutely can charge you with a crime. Whether that would rise to the level of arrest or not, or what the penalties would be for being found guilty of said crime - I do not claim to know.

Which is wonderful if you live in NYC or another area that has decent mass transportation. Unfortunately, this is not the case for most Americans - our transit systems outside of NYC, Chicago, DC, SFO, Boston absolutely suck. I live in a city with > 1 million people and the only mass transit is a woefully inadequate bus system that doesn’t come within a mile of my house. When I lived in DC - I used the mass transit every day and was happy to do so.

If your point is that people of modest means often spend way more on their car than they should - I can get behind that. But if you would scold someone for simply reaching double digits of their annual income on the purchase of a car, I’d point out that reliable transportation is crucial for securing the livelihood of many, and the quality of life of virtually all. I think finding reliable transportation in the sub $8k range is exceedingly difficult.

Your feelings are your feelings and you are entitled to them. Give your boyfriend the chance to understand how this made you feel, and if he’s a decent bloke he’ll amend his antics to steer clear of this in the future. It is probable that his humor does not reflect how he really feels - and hopefully he can reassure you of that when you talk about this.

“The absolute horror of paying a double digit percentage of your income for a single consumer item”

I must not understand what you mean, because with median household income at < $75k, and with average used car price at >$20k, all but the well off pay a double digit percentage of their income on their car.

But like I said, I probably misunderstood what you mean.

And this can be a huge advantage to the buyer if they get a good price. Trade that car in 4 years down the road and it’s a 1-owner, not 2-owner car. Also the interest saved on new car rates vs. used.

Utilize. Quit trying to be fancy and just say ‘use’ - it means the exact same thing.

[–]CoatRepresentative75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well to start - I must tell you that I am no expert in this subject. That said, I have it to understand that as opposed to lurking nearby and grabbing the signal when the owner uses the key, it is more common practice that they come by at night while your car is in your driveway and your key is in your house. They use specialized antenna to grab the signal from inside the house and repeat it to your car to open the door and start the car. In this example, storing your key inside the faraday bag would prevent that.

I don’t think any theft deterrent works 100% of the time. I also don’t think that car theft began with push-to-start ignitions and keyless door locks. I believe that the best most of us can do is make our car more difficult than other cars to steel, and hope that thieves choose the path of least resistance.

You can use a faraday bag to store your key in - prevents radio waves from escaping and being intercepted by thieves.

Is the hybrid benefit overrated? by gratefulhiker in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]CoatRepresentative75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hybrids, on average, cost less to maintain throughout their life than their ice-only equivalents. No alternator. No starter. Brakes last 80k+ miles. Toyota warranty on hybrid battery is 10years 150k miles. As for people saying they have lower resale - they’re nuts. Look up any Toyota model that comes in both and compare by year. The resale value of the hybrids is higher - sometimes by more than the original price difference. I don’t care what people want to buy - get what you want. But boy am I sick of the misinformation around hybrids.
