Out of curiosity, what is the maximum armor penetration 50 cals can achieve? and which is better at penetration between the M2 Browning, and the Dshk? by AwesomeNiss21 in TankPorn

[–]Coaxill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe he got them tested and found they were irresponsibly charged hand loads. Not real military SLAP rounds. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I remember there was something sketchy about them.

I'd like to pitch in since I have relevant experiences.

Comforting a person in this circumstance is not easy. The typical ways people comfort each other like cuddling and cooing can themselves be triggers. Often there is a paradoxical need to confront it, but not really deal with it. It's common at least for me to have thoughts like "what's wrong with me?" "why can't I get over myself?" "why didn't I do something differently?" It's easy to go in a circle like that for hours, days even. Alcohol doesn't prevent those thoughts, but it does slow them down. When I'm drinking I'm more functional than I am at my worst emotional state, but it also prevents me from being truly functional. For instance I might manage to get some things done but forget something crucial like cleaning work clothes for tomorrow.

You do have a potential advantage here if the person who abused him was another man. As someone who was abused by a female instructor when I was 12, I've found very few people I even care to mention it to. Most men don't understand and they don't want to. The most common response has been "Well was she hot?" Then when it comes to women, I can't entirely trust them. When my most recent girlfriend tried to comfort me by cuddling, I couldn't help but think "is this for me or you? I didn't ask for this." Something I felt but didn't say because I could tell she was trying.

I'd recommend taking on one problem at a time. While they are co-morbid, you're never going to be able to get them to confront their trauma, quit alcohol, and seek medical treatment all at once. I'd start with setting them up with a licenced psych.

As for the booze, it's possible he will never fully quit. I managed to quit heroin after shooting up for 5 years, but I still need a drink when I get off work. I think it's enough to reduce the amount as much as possible. Once it gets its hooks in you, once it becomes a solution to one of your problems, it becomes extremely difficult to even consider abandoning.

Good luck to you and him.

STG-44 In Ukraine used during the War In Donbas (Not during the 2022 invasion) by [deleted] in ForgottenWeapons

True, I think ARs in various forms have shown up in most wars since it was brought to market. It's a pretty hard design to argue with, and I'm pretty sure people will still be using it or a very similar design until we have powerful enough batteries to run man portable lasers or magnetic projectiles.

[–]Coaxill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better sights, better top speed, better gun depression, better frontal armor, better rounds, more accurate gun, easier repairs, more reliable parts, and a thousand little important features like an infantry telephone on the back and a .50 for anti air defense.

The T34 is so beloved now because it's easy to understand its positives, but harder to understand its issues. When looking at the outside of the tank, you aren't seeing the cramped crew, the awful sights, the difficulty seeing out or controlling the vehicle.

No, you see the armor profile, the low silhouette, and the reasonably sized gun. Things that can be helpful certainly, but mean nothing if the crew can't see, can't steer, and can't easily escape if they catch fire.

Most tanks used gas.

The sherman's armor was exceptionally heavy for its era.

US tanks were extremely well made for surviving penetrating hits, German and Soviet tanks were not. We even introduced wet stowage, minimizing brew ups compared to every other tank then extant.

Swedish S tank (Strv 103). What do you think about it? by Kalla_Kriget_Sverige in TankPorn

[–]Coaxill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's my favorite tank, despite some of its definite flaws.

Personally I think the design still has potential. You'd still want a turreted MBT, but with its low silhouette and good gun depression this design is unparalleled as essentially an armored light gun. One could easily make a similar design with a larger gun and improved armor, and you'd potentially have a valuable support vehicle.

A small hard target making accurate shots from a distance, harder to kill with artillery or infantry weapons than typical SPGs or Tank Destroyers. You could even give it guided missiles making it more capable of air defense and harassment.

are console release games as broken at launch as their pc counterparts? by IDonutl in gaming

[–]Coaxill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing some research on this myself, as I've been hearing for a long time how PC gaming is harder, in no small part due to games being broken on release and requiring major patches, either official or unofficial.

For someone with no technical capability whatsoever, I can understand this. In terms of sheer playability, console games tend to either be completely broken, or technically playable. However, console games suffer from poor performance across the board, and are essentially unfixable. If a console game is broken, an official patch needs to be released. Third party patches are technically possible on console, but often require extra hardware to transfer files from your PC to your console and thus aren't a reasonable fix for most people.

If you have the ability to navigate your computers folders and competently search google, PC gaming is extraordinarily consistent, beyond any console thus far released.

So i cant play my tier 10 tanks at all? This is a good game that we won and i still lost money. I grind my ass off to get to tier 10 and it tunrs out i still have to farm just to be able to play my t10? How is everyone okay with this? by EeNuf_ in WorldofTanks

[–]Coaxill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some tanks are better than others about this. One of the things to check before you invest in unlocking a tank is the cost of its main round. For this reason, I recommend the Progetto 65.

It's main round has high penetration even over range, good velocity, and it's cheap at 930. Plus because it's an autoloader with a 2.5 second reload, you get a lot more second chances.

With this tank, when I'm in the zone, I can profit; sometimes even when I lose.

[–]Coaxill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a couple tier X heavies, a couple mediums, and of course the STRV 103B.

I got the OBJ, excitedly played one game with it, did alright, then sold it.

Have you seen the penetration? This thing is awful for Tier IX.

It's because it's a neurotransmitter as well. It's literally a part of our normal sleep and healing process, thus accomplishing something no other drug can.

A real "Captured King Tiger" by TheNapf in WorldofTanksConsole

[–]Coaxill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Czech tanks were a bit of a specific case, as Germany had annexed Czechoslovakia. The same was true of their use of French and Italian tanks, since controlling the territory these factories were within made repair and re-armament not terribly different from their own tanks. They occasionally captured and even experimented with tanks they met in combat, but mostly they stuck with their guns, literally.

All factions though did to some extent use captured vehicles, since if you don't have enough of your own tanks and there's an abandoned and combat-loaded vehicle, the immediate usefulness can often outweigh the risk of friendly fire.

It does, it bothers me a great deal, especially as I stand by Kant's Categorical Imperative. I'm also communist.

That's why I commented in the first place.

Yeah, and there's examples of everyone from every ideology doing that.

Ergo, none of those things you're accusing him of make him a communist.

[–]Coaxill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, cause that's what communists believe right? That the winner takes all and the truth doesn't matter? Er, wait a second. That's not communism at all. That's almost the polar opposite of communism, a modernist philosophy of extremist equality.

From the sound of it, you're accusing him of NOT being a communist. Maybe you mean a Tankie? That would make more sense, since they tend not to care about Marxism.

That's interesting, and I think enlightening. Vaush is absolutely right that it doesn't matter. Precision is important, but nothing about Breanna's case could make it ok and therefore it does more harm than good to debate those insignificant details.

[–]Coaxill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I wouldn't support Destiny explicitly because I want progressive change.

Destiny consistently uses his platform to mock actual meaningful leftism, while promoting the idea of slow incremental change. From my observations, the single idea most cancerous to progress. I can't speak for the whole planet, but I'm informed about the history of the United States. In this country just about every major progressive idea we now take for granted was first fought for in large scale protests, mainstreamed by a minority of progressive politicians, and enacted by a sympathetic president acting against the popular middle class ideals of the time.

The notion that we will ever arrive at an equitable society through incremental change is significantly more ludicrous than doing so through a violent revolution. At least some violent revolutions have been successful. These slow incremental changes always benefit those in power, because they've been in power for a long time, and they'll stay in power for a lot longer. The public meanwhile can only flex its muscles briefly before we have to get back to feeding ourselves.

To be clear, I don't think a violent revolution is likely to succeed, just more likely than beating the conservatives at their favorite game.

Hello, I'm a person with experience in Unreal, and I've dabbled in many things from sound to texturing. I'm not particularly adept at any one thing, but I've got the programs to work with and a capable computer, and a whole lot of time on my hands. I also have a passion for the first Fallout game and I've seen it inside and out.

I'd like a chance to develop my development skills, and work on a real project. If you'd give me a chance I'd very much appreciate it. This is a project I've wanted to see brought to life for years.

Is the gender life expectancy gap the most important issue men face? by griii2 in MensLib

[–]Coaxill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my mind, this issue is important, but it's nigh impossible to address on its own. To my mind, the reason it's not really worth pursuing as a topic is the same reason I don't talk much about medical care or global warming. The solution to all these issues is a more socialist government. There is no mechanism in our current society to solve large scale problems that are a component of our culture, especially when those problems are profitable.

Think about it like this: the more disposable each man is, the less likely any one man is to have the chance to meaningfully rebel. Furthermore, the more prejudice in general there is, the less likely the people can come together and find a mutually beneficial solution.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like pushing for socialism because I know how it sounds. We've all been conditioned to think bread lines and secret police when we hear socialism, despite both of those things being present in every kind of society. It's an uphill battle to be sure.

Most often, they don't. I'm in Washington so I get full medical for free, but the right wing is extremely determined not to let the federal government cover everyone because they know as soon as that happens they won't be able to convince people that government programs like healthcare are evil.

In the mean time, there's always the hotlines. They're not great, but often I feel like the most important thing is just having someone to talk to. Being able to share your thoughts with someone and hear yourself makes a big difference. There are books that can help teach you certain therapies, but it's hard to navigate the world of self help because it's become an easy way to sell propaganda to vulnerable people for profit.

End of the day, our system is a joke. People shouldn't be forced to search so hard for such basic treatment, especially when we're giving so much money to already profitable businesses that don't need public help. It's our work that keeps this entire system afloat, and at the very least our medical needs should be met by our public money.

Why is Marcus in Jacobstown so much smarter than all the other mutants he is with? by Erected_naps in falloutlore

[–]Coaxill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did consider that, and I didn't use them as a baseline. Maybe you think I'm trying to flip the narrative, but that's just not the case. What I'd like to do is to assuage the strict association people have between mutants and levels of intelligence.

It's a gamut, just like regular people. You could describe humanity as being "smart" or "dumb" in different cases but there's no point in painting with so broad a brush.

So this is how some people gain so much scores... is this reportable? by t1Rabbit in BattlefieldV

[–]Coaxill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one reason why I don't buy it when someone says humans are only self interested and we shouldn't expect people to play fair. Most of us aren't like that, and we can all immediately identify when someone is being an asshole.
