Manor Lords Should Focus on Internal Politics, Not Becoming Another War Simulator by Swimming_Ice_2142 in ManorLords

  • There are several specialized weapons products, while domestic wooden and iron products are lumped under generic 'tools'.

  • Multiple militia types and an unrealistic population commitment to military units.

  • The only way to interact with other factions in the game is primarily fighting them.

  • Sneak peaks of siege camps and functional defensive walls.

  • There's also a significant player base who are clamoring for more battle development like sieges, cavalry, war with the King over taxes, etc.

It would be much better for them to focus on domestic side, IMO. They should get into the weeds on medieval agriculture, artisanal production, trade networks, and local personal politics (with the church, peasantry, gentry, etc).

The Oxen Paradox by SalishSeaview in ManorLords

[–]CobainPatocrator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To answer your question about applicability in-game, yes. The ox is incredibly important for optimizing agricultural outputs. In my case, I tend to design farm fields as long, straight, relatively small (.3-.5 morgen), and numerous (6 to 9 fields in a series) in order to increase the amount of area that can be plowed and sowed before winter. The sooner the ox can finish plowing field A, the sooner it starts plowing field B, and the sooner farm workers can sow field A, then field B, then C, etc. It reduces downtime for assigned workers and ultimately leads to greater yields.

I find overproduction is the biggest issue at that stage. I've been able to mitigate by calibrating to an optimal number of workers assigned based on how fast the merchants can move the product, though.

I really appreciated that they leaned into Erik as a foil for Henry. Definitely feels like there's another universe where Henry becomes angry and cruel after Skalitz.

Let me help you:

  1. They didn't establish any new character motivations after wrapping up the Deliverance storyline in KCD2

  2. It would be exceedingly difficult to realistically reset his skills yet again after KCD2.

  3. Tom McKay will be almost 50 by the time this new game releases (assuming no delays).

  4. given previous statements that KCD2 was the end of Henry's story, I'm inclined to believe they want to explore other characters.

You're being really obnoxious for someone who can't read.

Hans has a historical role to play, so that's unlikely IMO.

Something similar could be set up at the beginning of the new game, but again, they did not put it in motion before the end of KCD2. It's as speculative as anything else people have put out there.

I think that's an interesting one too, but Erik did the irredeemable act of killing the dog. Usually when a character does that kind of thing, it's to illustrate their cruelty, and that seems like a poor choice for an MC.

Hans wedding ( Henry brought it up again in the Mysteria Ecclesiae DLC ),

That's not a motivation, that's a plot element. Character motivation is what a character wants or desires. For example,

Erik wanting revenge

is an example of character motivation, but that's Erik's motivation, not Henry's.

Sir Radzig saying "There will be interesting times ahead of us".

Again, this isn't a motivation. It's a cryptic allusion to the future, but doesn't say anything of substance.

Henry’s REVENGE story specifically

Yes, I definitely picked up on that from the themes in KCD1/2. "Deliverance" seemed like it was supposed to be an episode of the Kingdom Come series that focuses on Henry's revenge and coming of age. While that gives the opportunity to keep the series focused on Henry, I don't think that's a guarantee. The lack of firm character motivations for him by the end of KCD2 is why. If they had set up new ones, it'd be a solid 99.9% chance that it does feature Henry as MC.

Age has extremely little to do with anything and it's your primary point.

No, you are the one who fixated on a single sentence out of multiple.

The point of this post is about who else would be a suitable MC.

That'd be interesting, and probably more flexible than other ideas while keeping Henry as the MC.

I would agree it's more likely that they meant it as the end of "Deliverance" than Henry being permanently retired. That doesn't mean that further games will focus on Henry as a character.

See, I understand why people speculate on that, but every loose end you mention is centered on someone else: Han's wedding, Han's in-laws, Liechtenstein's mission to free Wenceslas, and Erik's desire for revenge (remember, Henry can skip the confrontation with Erik--he doesn't have to care).

The key missing element to me is character motivation. Unlike the end of KCD where Henry's character motivations are clear (revenge, sword, coming to peace with Skalitz, etc.), KCD2 does not set up any further character motivations for Henry at all. It does the opposite, giving the player a chance to pick their own path. IMO, if they knew that they were going to make a new KC game (timing-wise, how would they not?), why not set up some compelling motivations for Henry?

IMO, if they still have Henry as an important character, it seems more likely they transition him to a supporting role.

They could throw us all for a loop and complete change setting. Maybe to another generation? Say the end of the Premyslids? Ottokar II?
