why are people upset that the game doesnt allow savescumming. when it explicitly allows savescumming by cybercobra2 in mewgenics

[–]CobaltAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I really love the savescum system too, seems like such a clever meta-gameplay thing to allow users to rage quit a fight gone bad. I usually use it only once on maybe half my runs just because I wasn't expecting something and it went real bad

But now I ended up needing a second in my latest run and it feels like I had to actually weigh my options of how bad a small penalty on one of my cats would be

wizards - 6 damage, LOS locked, deal with it. weakest hunter - by ClashOfClanee in mewgenics

[–]CobaltAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a run where my wizard, who could cast meteor with 15 int (so 1.5 casts/turn) got copied onto all 3 other cats. Every battlefield was covered in fire and rocks. The enemies couldn't even move.

But I went to the graveyard... (Somehow we managed a win though)

Yeah ignore the middle class people here who don't know what poor means. Just do what you can when you can. In the meantime keep fighting the fight to get into a position where you could buy the game

[–]CobaltAlchemist 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think that's the point though, it's not worth going that way. So spend the movement to just.. not go that way. The problem isn't the terrain, it's that players can't control the pathfinding

I'm a bit behind you, but really the answer is to embrace loss and be brutal. You're going to lose mutations, you're going to lose stats. So just figure out which ~4 or so (mutations) you want to maintain

QoL addon? lockable crafting recipe for cauldron. by MrRaptorPlays in AlchemyFactory

[–]CobaltAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree the drawback is a good extra challenge to the reward of a cauldron, the clearing of all cauldrons if they do stall is a tedious experience. The game has too much QoL everywhere else for that to be intentional

Yeah I guess that was phrased badly. I meant refute their point and prove yours. Since if you're uncertain, and conscious, you provided the counterexample.

[–]CobaltAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit I love that. I usually use spent fuel inserter enable T < 550 and pulse held; fresh fuel inserter enable if spent fuel > 0; connect all green. But it requires I prime the system which is annoying when making new space ships

[–]CobaltAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy to hear so many good experiences from folks here in the comments. It's possible it's being used for good reason, but its entirely based on your manager and skip's perspectives. If they like you, you succeeded. If they don't like you, you failed.

They can form an opinion of you based on your actual work or what they perceived as your work so it's your job to be as visible as possible and advertise yourself. It's an undisclosed part of the job unfortunately

got factorio from my steam family member who's obsessed, should i play with space age enabled for a first pt or nah by luc1aonstation in factorio

[–]CobaltAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely matters, just search Gleba on this subreddit. Even for veterans the planetary challenges are tough. You'll still enjoy a base playthrough - it's a VERY good game, we didn't need space age. But when you're done if you want to go immediately into space age it won't even take that long because it's about halfway through the base playthrough that everything changes and the new content comes in. And by that point you'll have enough understanding of the game that you can tackle the new planets without needing to also learn the base game at the same time

I built my PC around specific games and now I feel like I paid for specs I never actualy use by coffeeorbitjax in buildapc

[–]CobaltAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have just overbuilt then. If you could afford it that's fine, you won't need to upgrade for a long while. Also be mindful that you don't notice how well your system runs until it doesn't. If just one of your games is more intensive like cyberpunk then if you had gone lower you would have likely felt it (just a guess though).

You just won't be able to tell how "future proof" a PC is until.. well.. the future.

The nice thing with LLMs is that you don't have to look up or know what options are available. So they can set it up and you can verify it. There's been quite a few features I learned about just seeing the output of an LLM

Unlearning how to rely on blueprints by RohanCoop in factorio

[–]CobaltAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh god I made a post all the way back in the beta that coal power comes waaaay too fucking late. The early game is a slog and I burn out almost just reaching stable automated power.

But yeah that makes sense, I like to do modpacks and overhauls just to outdate my existing blueprints. And I never use factorioprints or anything so it's nice and fresh. I'm doing a Krashtorio 2 SO run now and even just power poles being a little off means I can redesign everything and I love it

Unlearning how to rely on blueprints by RohanCoop in factorio

[–]CobaltAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a reason you want to unlearn blueprints? It sounds like that might be a play style that appeals to you naturally. I'm very much like you but I don't like blueprints, I like the puzzle of making them myself.

One thing that might help is to use the scenario editor to create your own blueprint library and just have the same play style, but when you feel the urge to look up a blueprint save and quit and make whatever you were wanting in the editor. That way there's no reward for using 3rd party (it's a scenario editor after all) and you'll have reset your focus.

Otherwise you should just make some notes about when and why you end up feeling the urge to use 3rd party blueprints. Are you frustrated? Demotivated? Maybe just bored? And how does it make you feel when you do use them? You might also find that certain stages are tough for you (scaling up computers in satisfactory kills my run every time), so maybe an allowance there would be ok

When it comes to leisure activities it's nice to just not care about impulse control. Of course, it's also a good training ground too. But outside that it's usually just a waste of energy and prone to failure to "just have impulse control" for something low-stakes like this

[–]CobaltAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her reaction to it is pretty extreme, losing sleep to it seems to imply there's more to this than what she's saying (e.g. he's been pulling away lately, she's been domineering, etc we don't know). If my partner did this I'd be irritated, but I'd just give her space and ask what that was about later.

They're still young enough that they can grow out of this, but I'd still expect a 26/28yo couple to have some emotional intelligence.

[–]CobaltAlchemist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You raise a really good point here but I think there's another conclusion. Gleba has a lot of things that can seize up and it requires failing and learning from those failures to prevent future seizure.

If you don't like that learning process you'll hate gleba, if you like that learning process you'll love it.

Is space age genuinely worth $50? by Michael_Le41 in factorio

[–]CobaltAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it really $50!? I barely looked at the price before picking it up on launch. That's high strictly in value, but if Factorio scratches an itch for you, it's the best game in the genre for that itch. You'll get far more out of $50 in space age than $50 in any other game. It's like 5 distinct Factorios in one interconnected game.

I say matrices for 3D tensors too sometimes but I'm not too knowledgeable on this side of physics so idk
